Solid breakfast tacos and the cheapest ones I’ve found in Austin. Nice owner. Will be back to try the BBQ. For all of you who drive down south first on your commute into downtown, give the breakfast a try and support a newer establishment. Torchy’s gets old, anyways.

In a BBQ city dominated by brisket, I just want some good pulled pork from time to time. Phred’s focuses on Pork with Pulled Pork, Ribs and Sausage. The pulled pork and ribs are very moist and tender. They are a little light on seasoning for my taste but that is just me. The pinto beans were also cooked to just the right tenderness but again were under seasoned for my taste. The red BBQ sauce was very tasty and complimented the meat but I wish he also offered a Carolina mustard sauce. My son got the porker sandwich and the sausage added the needed spice to bring the whole thing together. I will go back as the meat is moist and tender but I will take a little spice mix with me.

Love, love, loved this song place! Great vibe and down to earth owner! The homemade BBQ sauce was delicious with the tensor pork wrap I ordered. The owner also gave my boyfriend and I some some homemade peach cobbler!!! Incredible!

I first stumbled upon this place on my way to Torchys, but seeing the line and lack of parking at that place, my stomach decided otherwise. First off, Phred totally embodies the true spirit of Austin, he’s laid back, a little off the wall, and he loves what he does. Secondly, you gotta try the pork. It was smokey, juicy, and really had good balance between lean and fatty. In a town full of BBQ, Phreds Smokehouse is worth a try, great food and great conversation await you!

This is the place for pulled pork by a long shot. The pork is lovely and moist and that red slaw perfectly complements it(it doesn’t have any beets for those of you who aren’t fans of that particular root veg). Phred himself is great and seems pretty down to talk food anytime. Definitely coming back for that pulled pork and slaw.

This place was horrible. I was hoping it would be one of the diamond in the rough food trucks since it is supper sketchy looking, but no. It was just as bad as it looked. There was nobody there but yet it still took 45 minutes to get our food. The guy, who I assume is Phred, gave our order to the only other couple that was there. The brisket burrito was disgusting. The whole tortilla was pink because of the cabbage. What a waste.

Phred’s pulled pork is out of this world – tender, juicy and flavorful. And reasonably priced. Great to have barbecue back in the neighborhood. Okay, I wasn’t there, but I highly doubt anyone had to wait 45 minutes. When one’s frustrated and impatient, 20 min can feel like 45 min. Also, whenever someone else has accidentally grabbed my order, it’s always been the customer who took it in error, not the person at the window. Again, I wasn’t there, but if you’re here for a review of the barbecue and not one person’s one-time fluke«bad service», pull yourself up to a pile of pulled pork.

Worst BBQ I’ve had in a long time. The brisket was dry as all hell. The ribs were still fatty. The potato salad was German. The cole slaw was with beets. The sausage was good. The sauce was good. He was nice. He gave me a sample of pulled pork, but it was flavorless. I will not be back.

I love this guy’s BBQ, and have had several excellent conversations along the way with Fred. But he’s gone — the trailer and Phred have vanished. Anybody know where he may be now?

So glad I stopped by. I was just driving in Austin an stumbled across this food truck. I really just wanted to take a photo but ended up talking to the chef. Talking turned into me buying food. I had the brisket taco not the best I have ever had but it was tasty. The high review is more for the service. I received great service from Phred. This is what America is all about.

For the price, $ 6.50 for sandwich only, Phred’s BBQ is usually good. It is quick and convenient but sometimes the meat is not trimmed very well. We manage to pick up sandwiches there every couple of weeks.

Hey guys been meaning to try this place for awhile since it’s just across the street. First off this is not your mainstream, big box trailer like every other one in Austin. This is ran solely by Phred and he said he’s been here for around 9 months now. He is a great guy and seemed excited to serve. I loved talking to him and getting to know a little about his BBQ operation which in my eyes is quaint and tasty. For the reviewer mad about price, I believe you must be unaware of what BBQ runs these days… Beef in general is the highest it has ever been and only going up. And let’s not forget Phred is a one man band. Moving on, I ended up trying his pulled pork sandwich with slaw on a wheat bun and his potato salad. It was $ 7 even which was truly surprising for BBQ and he gave me a taste before and a look at my plate to make sure it was on point. Took it home and devoured it! I would say it was great food for such a small operation and although it’s hard to compete with these mega grillers all over Austin it was a great change of pace with a cool guy. I will be going back for more soon!

Way way way over priced! It’s like $ 17 for a pound of brisket(which is tough and not very flavorful) I don’t understand how he can’t cook a decent brisket and then charge so much. The pulled pork was ok and I think he didn’t give me any BBQ sauce. Lame. weaksauce
