The upside of this place is the parking is pretty nice for being located near downtown. The food is not worth talking about though sadly for being a restaurant. The queso is more of a fondu than a dip. There isn’t anything special about the food. Fried ice cream is just ice cream rolled around in corn flakes… Weird concept and it was freezer burned badly. Took the staff 10 minutes to get to us at the door to seat us. But multiple workers walked passed us and looked at us without acknowledging we existed. And the place was dead, there was only one other table in the entire place. Needless to say, plenty of other great Tex-Mex locations in Austin.

This used to be our favorite Mexican restaraunt in Austin. Amazing food and drink specials and food was good. Tortillas were amazing. BUT, we have stopped going. Something happened with management and they are too inept to realize that you need more than one waiter/waitress on staff on the weekend. The poor staff tries as hard as they can but the place fills up on the weekends. Last time we went it took over two hours to get in and out. The staff was apologetic, but there is nothing they can do. Management needs a slap in the face for how they treat their employees.

This place sucks. Sorry service. Food is horrendous and the help doesn’t have a clue. Do not come.

This makes me so sad. I’d been there before and really liked it. The food was pretty on point and inexpensive, the michelada is good, they’ve got a solid queso and exceedingly good Sunday specials. Those was definitely worth coming back for. So I did. And I planned a whole group. «You guys, it’s good! I promise!» And then I walked in on a Sunday and found that there was a total of one server. One. No bartender. No manager. One dude. He was clearly in the weeds and looked really stressed when I mentioned my group of 6. I had an inkling of what was wrong but assumed maybe he was just busy. Not the case. This was at noon my fellow brunchers. Not 9 am. 9 am I could understand. I’m not totally sure what was happening here — they were severely understaffed and this poor guy was trying to do it all. There was a large 10 top, at least 5 other tables with 2 – 4 people at them and myself, kind of waiting around hoping that the promised land of chips would arrive. I ended up leaving and going to another spot. He seemed relieved and I don’t blame him. I was pretty upset — not just because I’d put my rep on the line by saying that they were a good spot… but also because whomever was in charge set this poor guy up for failure. Where was the bartender? Where were his peers? Surely there’s one human in the whole city who could have poured mimosas for him. Mi Madre has always been on my «ehhhhh» list but I liked Mijos. I’m sorry to see this happen and I’ll probably skip this place in the future because of it.

I like this place. Great place to go and have a drink and just to relax. The food is good also. Give it a try Austin.

We tried this place Friday night, very disappointing. It took 10 minutes for staff come over at all and take our drink and appetizer order. We were about to walk out, but decided to be patient. After about 10 more minutes our drinks came. Ten minutes later, the waiter came to tell us the gas had been cut off for repair so we wouldn’t be getting our appetizer… or any other food. They need more wait staff as the one guy helping us seemed very stressed and just couldn’t handle the bar and tables. He was, however, super nice… tall thin guy with sandy blonde hair… don’t recall his name. Seemed like the other wasn’t helping out much. There should be a table busser too as any unseated tables had dirty dishes. They stayed that way for the majority of our wasted hour there.

We just sat here for an HOUR and didn’t get ANYTHING. Terrible service and the female waitress actually gave me attitude and a rude look when I went in to ask for our food to go and the check… which we NEVER got. Do NOT go here!

We entered the place at around 6:45 on a Thursday night. Seemed like there was only one bartender/waiter that night, plus a girl that was helping out.(I stress«girl» because it really seemed like she was younger than 15 years old. It was a little concerning.) She got us chips, salsa, and water, so it was easier to wait the 10 minutes before the waiter was able to help us. He was really nice, but come on… they should really hire more help. There were about 5 full tables and a full bar, which for the size of the place was almost all of the seating. They had the football game on, and there really wasn’t a bad view, so that was a definite plus. Now, for the food… Wow, I really don’t think I’ve eaten worse tex-mex in this town. The salsa tasted like watery tomato sauce, chips were crumbs, and everything was over salted. Cheese enchiladas were covered with a «tex-mex» sauce that had far too much chili powder. It was edible, but just barely. My garbage disposal husband didn’t even finish his meal. Flash forward to the end of our meal and it finally seems like there is some more help. A waitress appears, but spends close to 15 minutes talking to a man in the restaurant. Jeez. Overall, I could have dealt with the weird service, but the food was just too terrible to come back.

We got here at 11:30 and it took 30 minutes to get out drunk and additional 20 minutes for our food. There was only 1 waiter working during the lunch hour and it is semi packed. The manager is not present at all and there are people waiting to be seated for more than 10 minutes while there is open tables available. Overall, took about an hour and half to leave. *I’ve noticed the service is not great during the week but when it comes to the weekend, there is excellent service because they have experienced waiters working. The manager needs to manage the restaurant better during the week, lunch hour or dinner.

I don’t understand why this place has such low reviews. Good tex mex at reasonable prices. Weekend specials are the way to go. There are a lot of complaints about customer service but all three visits I’ve been here has been above and beyond and one of the instances I was with a bachelor party of eight. I will continue to come back.

Where to start? I wanted to like this place, BUT… the service is horrible!!! I’ve been a couple of times before with no issues prior to my last visit, but every time I go in, there are new people(the owner can’t seem to keep the same staff– interesting). There was a really good guy(he looked very young) who worked there. he wasn’t a waiter, but he did MAJORITY of all the work… anyway, I don’t see him anymore(that’s a shame, but good for him). My last visit was horrible. I went with a friend of mine, because we were 8n the area. My food order was incorrect and the waiter decided to tell me, «that’s what you ordered»…Really? I know what I told you. AND why would I order something that I’m allergic to, maybe she heard what she wanted to hear? So, after informing them about the allergy, they began to walk away and I just grabbed my bag and left. Apparently, the owner wasn’t available either. Never again.

This cute little joint was on Open table and when a group of 8 of us suddenly needed dinner on a Sunday night they popped up. We booked and went right over, boy did we surprise them because we grew to a group of 12. They didn’t falter and delivered a great mean and even kept their kitchen open longer . I had the rellanos and loved them. Super friendly staff and way to accommodate this large party!

Tuna tacos and tuna nachos were not very tasty. The tuna was way over cooked to the point of tasting like tuna from a can. Did not like! The corn tortillas and mixed grilled veggies were alright though. If I’m back in the area I might try it again because it seemed like a friendly place but I’ll definitely not be getting any tuna.

You were so promising with your HH specials, Mijos! I wanted you to be so great. Alas: — my friend’s drink order was wrong, and when she asked for the correction the waiter responded with: «well hopefully our bartender can get to it.» — needless to say, her margarita nor the sprite she ordered later EVER came out, even though we followed up twice — our ticket needed to be corrected twice. — the table of five next to us had some complaints that they wanted to take up with the management, from what I inferred also about the drink wait, and instead — from what we overheard — the manager sent over a member of the wait staff who told the girls that he apologized, but that the manager was very non confrontational. ?! Yes, it was Valentine’s Day, but their staff should have been prepared, warmer, and not used the«it’s Valentines Day!» line as an excuse every single time we(or the tables around us) needed something.

You would think that walking into a place with a party of 11 when an establishment only had three busy tables wouldn’t take too long… WRONG! The place looks promising, especially with their happy hour specials that run all day Saturday, but somehow it took them 30 mins to seat us, and another 40 to get our drinks and orders down. It might be that they are understaffed, but it seemed like the workers just do not care enough to provide exceptional service to customers. And don’t you dare need anything from them, because they respond with an attitude about how they are trying to «run out the hot food as fast as they can.» I would recommend this place solely on the fact that their happy hour specials are inexpensive, but many of us did not care for the margaritas; they were watered down and just plain tasteless. As a tourist in the city, I was not impressed.

I’ve driven past Mijos but never stopped to check it out. This time was different as the weather outside was frightful but the smell of Mexican food was delightful. To the point, caldo was my craving but after glancing at the menu I saw pollo mole, and I had to try it out. But first I had to try their lettuce wraps; lettuce, diced grilled chicken mixed with onions and peppers with a side of a grilled jalepeno. Unlike the lettuce wraps found in Asian diners, Mijos weren’t doused in sauce but the onions and peppers really brought out the flavor. When I ordered the pollo mole I opted for grilled zucchini instead of rice and beans. They accommodated my request and even threw in a side of Calabasitas(Squash, corn stew). The mole sauce was a perfect blend of chocolate, peanut butter and a slew of other spices. The chicken was a slow roasted bone-in chicken breast, as it should be according to my abuelita. The zucchini was grilled but not over done to lose firmness. Overall this was a great meal for an especially cold day in Austin.

The happy hour specials at this place are tough to beat(M-F 3−7PM& All-Day Sat & Sun). May I suggest the $ 3 Parrot Tail cocktail during the week and the $ 1 Mimosa’s on the weekend. The food specials aren’t bad either and will definitely leave you feeling like you got a great value. On the whole the food is just OK which is the reason for the rating. The standout dish we had was the Mexican Lettuce Wraps and the Fajitas for 2(Only $ 14 on Monday’s and well worth it). The service is friendly and the deals are great, the food is just a little lacking in a city that is chock full of great Mexican dining options.

I wanted to try a place in my new East Austin neighborhood last night so I went to Mijo’s. They advertise their HH from 3−7pm on weekdays and also have $ 13.99 fajitas for 2 on Mondays. The food is ok, but the service was good and the HH specials make the place worth trying. During HH they have $ 3 margaritas, which looked very strong. They also have $ 3 queso, $ 5 nachos, and $ 7.5 mjos platter. I came here with a $ 20 open table check so the boy and I ordered appetizers and the $ 13.99 fajita platter. We later realized we ordered food for 6 people, but we love left overs! The Mijo’s platter was underwhelming. It included a chicken taquito, queso, a little guacamole, 2 empanadas, toasta, and a chicken quesadilla. Honestly the food looked like it could have come from the frozen section of a grocery store. It was tasty but not GOOD mexican. The chicken lettuce wraps and fajitas were quite tasty though. The charred meats and grilled veggies were flavorful. Also the fajitas came with rice, beans, and yummy corn tortillas. For 13.99 the fajitas are a good deal. If you’re looking for a place to get cheap margaritas and queso, I’d say this is a good place to try. I would also come back to try their brunch since they offer $ 1 mimosas and are down the street from me.
