Best location in Austin! I’ve been going to this I’ve got as long add I can remember and have always had exceptional service with exceptional food. I had a cook help me carry my treat to my table while I was holding my toddler. I also had a waitress being colors to my table so my screaming child would calm down. Altos recommend to everyone!

I ordered some sides from Luby’s for Thanksgiving. As requested, I ordered 48 hours in advance and pre-paid. Got to the«Pick Up» at Luby’s on Brodie and it was an UNORGANIZEDMESS! People who did not want to wait in the cafeteria line were SLOWLY ordering food and asking for it «To Go» on a tray so they could take it over to the dining room. In 25 minutes, the line moved 2 people. There were 2 employees, so one should have been doing prepay and one the non-planners who did not want to wait. I got so frustrated I left after waiting almost 25 minutes(did I mention 2 people ordering LuAnn platters made it through). Get it together Luby’s!!! This was not your first rodeo!

If you get hot flashes, you’ll love the icebox that is this Luby’s location. Unfortunately, I forgot my twenty layers of clothing that would have allowed me to stay and eat. The floor was really dirty. Maybe next time…

There is a moment in life when you have a 5 year old in tow, a mother-in-law in a wheel chair(with the home health nurse), and you find out that you arrived at Luby’s 5 minutes after they closed. Only with the great manager and staff whom opened the locked door, and with great attitudes, allowed us to pick our meals and sit down for a late dinner. For this, I extend my gratitude and a 5 star review. It was well deserved.

I have never been a huge fan of Luby’s, but several times a year my job will have Luby’s catered to us on certain holidays because they are always open. I work in a 24/7, 365 type work environment, so it is always nice to have places that are available to you when you are working. We had Luby’s turkey, ham, dressing, rolls, gravy, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and pecan pie catered. It is not the best and not the worst thing. Generic cafeteria food, but better than what I had in my school cafeteria as a kid. Like I said I am just thankful that there is a place like this on the holiday where this type of food can be brought in for the people who are working. The pecan pie is my favorite of everything listed. The staff is always super friendly and organized when I go pick up the order. The food is ordered in advance and every time it is packaged and organized nicely. Luby’s was open on Christmas day when I went and picked up the food until 5pm. I could tell many other people were thankful for them being open too because they were packed and the main line for food was practically out the door.

Came in for the fried fish and veggies for the 2 of us for dinner including rolls and drinks. The fish is the one to get each time we come in for dinner and lunch sometimes. Depending on where we are is which store we go to. Keep up the good work and keeping the same detail on the food

I had the chicken fried steak(large), mashed potatoes and green beans, with a cold beverage. Food was hot fresh and good. Please was clean and staff was fantastic. Manager was nice and visited table twice ! Place really could use a face lift, and was kinda drab in color, like back in the 70’s type of colors, and needs new carpet. It was soooo good to have a nice«home cooked meal» after a week of liquid diet, following dental surgery.

The closest thing to a time machine would be a trip to Luby’s cafeteria. I’m thinking that in some ways it’s a Southern tradition It was founded in 1947 in San Antonio, Texas(don’t really know what other states they may be located), but I have been going there since I was a child. As a native Austenite can remember when there was a Luby’s in the(now closed, but becoming a ACC location) Highland Mall. During those times there would be a line of people waiting after church service for the cafeteria’s offerings. I recently visited the Luby’s located 8176 North Mo-Pac Expressway, Austin, TX78759, and to my surprise it has not really changed at all for the most part. The décor has changed slightly, and the environment still has the same feel it did when I was a child. The food was never that great, but never that bad. Food at Luby’s is what it is, and that is simple fare with usually a great selection. I went with an old tried and true favorite the fried fish, cabbage, and black-eyed peas. My friend had vegetable soup with a salad. My meal was just what I thought it would be good, but not great. The surprise was the soup and salad; the salad was one that you could build by request, and they offer a nice selection of ingredients. The salad was by far the best thing about the meal. The neat thing is you do get what you see, so when you’re walking down that line pick what looks good to you, and don’t blame anyone if you don’t make the best selection possible. The service was nice; all the employees were knowledgeable and helpful. As stated the place has not changed, except for the fact that there was hardly anyone in the cafeteria; so you are able to have your pick of tables. The only odd thing was the waitress. A waitress in a cafeteria? It seems that if you walk down a line, pick your food, walk to your table, and put away your tray, why would you need a waitress? The only thing I saw useful from this waitress was that she had straws. We had gotten our straws from the beverage area, so we were not able to partake of one her straws. The sad thing is at the time we discovered there was a waitress we had already paid our bill. Next we both discovered we had no cash(as usual). So we were faced with not being able to tip a waitress that gave us no discernable service, and that was not a good feeling. We got over it and exited the cafeteria when the waitress was offering straws on the other side of the dining room. We both promised to bring cash the next time so that we could tip the waitress who offers no type of waiting work.

I’ve been eating at Luby’s for as long as I can remember. I the the food has stayed close to the same for over 30 years. We ate here today and it was great, the food tasted great the dinning room was clean and what can you say it’s a cafeteria and for the most part the food is always good. How can you go wrong with Luby’s?

I wanted to fill up my kids, and eat a bunch of sides, fast. I honestly haven’t eaten at a Luby’s in almost a decade. It was clean, great service, and the food quality was pretty good… but was pretty cold. I was tired, so I just got to go boxes to bring it home and heat it up. I doubt I’ll go back, though.

My wife and I ate lunch today at Luby’s on Brodie Lane. While we were eating, my «cloth» napkin slipped off my lap onto the dirty floor. However, I was able to wipe my mouth several times before it fell. After we finished our lunch, my wife went to the ladies room and I stood around waiting for her. The waitress picked my «used cloth napkin» off the dirty floor, wiped off the table with the contaminated napkin, arranged the ketchup bottle and the next poor guy sat down to eat his lunch at our table. The table was wiped with my dirty napkin and not one drop of water or cleaning detergent was used before the next customer sat at this table. I could have had a serious mouth fungus, the flu, MRSA infection, TB, etc. Yet this untrained or non caring employee used my contaminated napkin to clean the table. Folks this is disgusting and VERY unsanitary. Apparently Luby’s management forgot to train their staff the importance of using sanitary cleaning procedures. We will not eat at this restaurant again. This is a great way for employees to spred germs and bacteria. We will never eat at a restaurant again that uses cloth/washable napkins. I’m tired of hearing/seeing customers blowing their snotty noses and coughing into their cloth napkins. If you need to blow — then go outside or to the rest room. Don’t ruin it for others wanting to enjoy their meal. The food was fair and the prices are extremely high. Low value for your hard earned money. There are numerous better restaurants in the area. The health inspector needs to shut this place down!!!

I totally forgot that Luby’s was open on Thanksgiving for their special Turkey dinner.$ 11.00! But am glad I remembered! Used the take out as wanted to watch football. Sooo fresh and easy to heat up. Of course, Mac &Cheese, stuffing, giblet gravy, pumpkin pie, roll, and a drink. Staff so friendly and happy to help me have a no family, single Thanksgiving! So lucky to have Luby’s in Sunset Valley!

Gosh darn it, I miss this place. When I’m out of town I can never find the good olé standby of Luby’s diner food. There’s something comforting about it, kinda like grandma and her apple pie! Years ago, I thought they were deteriorating but since the Papa’s brothers out of Houston have bought them, they have improved their quality and presentation. They have an awesome variety of seafood items, mixed with your traditional grilled or blackened chicken, chicken fried chicken, turkey, meatloaf, liver and more. I absolutley love their cabbage! It’s sauteed in butter I’m sure, but it has real bacon and spices that I just can’t seem to make at home. The set up is cafeteria style but the line moves faster than getting your food at a traditional restaurant. I can’t vouch for all their locations but this South location and the one on McNeil and Spicewood are great! Chicken fried chicken, cream gravy, sweet potatoes, green beans, fried okra, and Mac and cheese. Do I need to keep going? Naw. Go in and check em out!

I’ve eaten the chicken fried steak a couple of times. My rating is within the scope that is essentially cafeteria food. My chicken fried steak dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy and macaroni and cheese was better than I expected. It was delicious my food was very hot. The mash potatoes was good as well as the gravy. I enjoyed the Mac n cheese also the cheese had a nice and smooth texture. The salads are also very good and priced low. The service was good, because the servers checked to see how my meal was and refilled my drinks and took away the plates I had finished eating from. I’ve had better steak, but for a total of $ 10 I was impressed especially with the portion sizes. I can’t speak for the other menu items, but this meal is definitely a go! they also have T.V.‘s btw and plenty of space for a large crowd.

Holy portion sizes Batman! Apparently they have a new all you can eat promotion, and if you do not partake in that promotion, you are going to be disappointed! Portion sizes for ala cart have shrunk. I ordered fried okra and received 7 pieces! In a styrofoam bowl– what’s up with that? Gone are the reusable dishes of the past! The fish I ordered was small… So small. That the tarter sauce put on my plate was as large as my ver small square of fried fish. But do you know what has not shrunk? The prices!!! The cost for two adults and one child to eat lunch at the Luby’s on Brodie Lane? $ 35.00!!! Really? And gone is the person with the roaming drink cart… Now you share a server who fetches you drink refills … Maybe … Or maybe not as was the case with us! I go to Luby’s for nostalgia… Because my grandparents used to take me there as a kid… And I love their Mac and cheese, but I have the cookbook and will soon be practicing making some of my favorites at home, because I am tired of the rip off, ill fated promotions and poor service…

Upon doing something different for lunch we decided to come here. I always like eating at Luby’s in the past and ready to experience it again. After we waited for my mother in law, we got in line to order four food. Since it is cafeteria style you are first asked if you want a salad, main item, sides and the desert. I had the fried fish combo. I know the older folks love eating here and my fish did taste pretty good and not too bland. The sides were good too, but the cornbread was very dry and butter could not help out. The seating area is very spacious and tables are not close together where it help out some with special needs. We had a good lunch here and will be back.

Consistently good and a favorite, especially when I’m looking for some comfort food and don’t have time to make it myself. The new setup isn’t my favorite but the food is still good so I don’t care. Not a big fan of the breakfast buffett, but then again I know what their strong points are and stick to those(mac & cheese, fried chicken, green beans, fried okra etc.)

It is really hard to dis a place that gives you all you can eat breakfast for only $ 5.49. I only come here when my better half makes me some kind of deal. This morning it was: «Let’s go eat breakfast where we shouldn’t then I’ll go someplace with you that I think is boring.»(That is code for Luby’s all you can eat breakfast and shopping.) Let’s start with the good things about this Luby’s: 1. The people who work here on Saturday and Sunday mornings are really nice. They will go out of your way to try to get you what you want and always do it with a smile. 2. The baked ham is very good. 3. The salsa was surprisingly not bad and pretty spicy. 4. The variety was pretty amazing. Grits, potatoes, sausage, bacon, ham, eggs scrambled with a bunch of stuff, pancakes, french toast, waffles, pie, chorizo, beans, machaca… and then they will cook eggs to order for you. Great deal for $ 5.49. OK, that;s about it for the good. Now for the«not so much»: 1. This Luby’s apparently has a griddle that is too hot and a cook that really likes to cook with lots of oil on said grill. Therefore, the eggs cooked to order are always fried crispy and browned on the outside and runny in the middle. Always. The over medium eggs have the yolks broken, which is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. How hard is it to cook an egg properly? Eggs burnt on the bottom and edges are gross. 2. You can’t get toast, like from a toaster, even when you ask for just plain ol toast. Toast is fried to order on said griddle, until it is nice and greasy and crispy. I guess you call that Texas toast. I really just wanted toast toast, but — nope. If you like Texas toast, this is delicious, but I really just wanted a slice of toast, hold the grease. 3. The pancakes are CRISPY, because they are fried on this griddle. French toast, too. Well, everything is crispy — which is great for the bacon and sausage, which is good. Not so great for the eggs and pancakes. 4. This buffet really could have used some fruit. The overwhelming white flour/animal fat combo made me sick for the rest of the rest of the day. 5. If you look around, you see that every person eating here for breakfast has«body by Luby’s». It makes you wish that you had gone to the gym instead.(Maybe this entry should be in the«plus» column as «motivational».)

I am loathe to unload a review of this place with both barrels, but this Luby’s has lost all semblance of customer service and seems to have forgotten the basic principles of food service. Tonight I went in for three orders to go. I was trying to pick up on an advertised special I first became aware of at the San Marcos location for a 10 oz rib-eye and shrimp for $ 10.99(Saturday March 20th only). I waited a few minutes at the«Food To Go» counter, before some annoyed young lady came up from the kitchen and told me to get in the serving line.(OK, if that’s the case, then put up a sign and lock your«Food To Go» door like the other locations do!) Since there was no to-go server available to ask, I went out of my way to double-check with the cashier and ensure that the rib-eye special was indeed available at this location since there was no posted signage.(BTW, I should mention that I was yelled at to get back in line by the same drudge that had sent me away from the Food-To-Go counter. Sorry, I’m not a cow, and you’re not my border collie.) I was assured it was. So I dutifully went back to the serving line, got my tray, and waited my turn riding the rails. At the salad counter, when I declined a salad, Salad Girl asked what I was getting. I told her three rib-eye specials, two well done and one medium well. For the moment, I had hopes Salad Girl was actually trying to help speed things along. That hope was quickly dashed. Salad Girl then relayed my order to Jello Lady next to her, who proceeded to ask me once again what I wanted. Jello Lady then relayed my order to Beaver Cleaver at the carving station.(Is this circus starting to make highway workers look productive or what?) Beaver Cleaver then asked me yet again what I wanted and I repeated my order to him for what was now the third time. He then looked at me with all due incredulity and a grimace on his face and declared that the steaks were all«Medium»! It was at this moment that I first realized I had finally met the Luby’s Steak Nazi. No offer to cook them to order while I waited, N-O-T-H-I-N-G. The only conclusion I could draw based on his response was that he was telling me to take it or leave it. At that point, my frustration boiled over, and I said aloud, «Screw it! Keep your damn steaks. I’m tired of playing games with you people». And, with that, I left, empty-handed. I didn’t even bother to take the serving tray off the rails. As I was driving away, I had an animated phone conversation with the manager-on-duty, Chris. He was seemingly oblivious to the recent actions of his employees, and apparently could not believe what had just happened. He said he’d get to the bottom of it. I told him I hoped so, because he’d just lost a 12-year customer for life and the customer service his restaurant had just demonstrated was, in a word, abysmal. I’d promised my parents rib-eye steaks for dinner, so I went across town and got two much larger rib-eye steaks from Texas Roadhouse with zero drama. Yes, they even took my order in advance by phone, something else this Luby’s advertises but frequently fails to deliver(you’d have to have spent as much waiting time as I have at their Food-To-Go counter to realize how often their phone rings unanswered). I’ll still patronize other Luby’s locations, but this one can now officially be bulldozed for all I care. Poor customer service by uncaring employees with really bad attitudes serving up mediocre-at-best food. One star is being extremely charitable, wouldn’t you say?
