Food: Good 4⁄5 Service: Quick, Friendly 4⁄5 Ambiance: lacking, strip mall 2⁄5 Overall: 4⁄5 The sesame chicken was made with all white meat, cut into thin strips and fried to crispy perfection. The rice was average and there was a side of steamed broccoli accompanying the chicken. The chicken and broccoli were cooked perfectly and the rice was sticky. I would recommend that you show up a little early for lunch, this place is obviously popular. The owners were nice and talked to everyone. I will definitely come back for lunch and try the other items on the menu,

This is a regular take out/delivery dinner option for us as it is close, delicious, and they have great gluten-free options. The woman who answers the phone is super nice, and they have our common orders on file, so it’s really easy. My family loves the standard fare like fried rice, mu shu pork, and dumplings. I love the spicier dishes like Jalapeño chicken and Thai shrimp. They are great about gluten free. I’ve seen some poor reviews for lunch, but the dinner takeout is consistently very good.

The sesame tofu is awesome! The staff is so nice and friendly. Felt like a very local spot, the owner seemed to know everyone’s name. I highly recommend!

Wow if you haven’t been in this place a lot you don’t exist. They know everyone of there clients. Chatted them up. It was my first time there and I didn’t exist. The food was okay at best. I was so bummed out that it wasn’t the bomb. I am looking for good Asian food on this town.

Yeah it was one of those days. It also a holiday eve so expectations weren’t high because I figured most places would be closed or close early. My Wife had a taste for phở but I wasn’t pulsed toward it. I picked her food up and after searching Unilocal I found this place to get mine. The place is off far west in the last plaza before you reach the hill. When I arrived I saw so few cars I wasn’t sure what to think. There were people leaving food and that was encouraging. I went in and was greeted by a guy asking if I was picking up takeout. I saw several bags on a table waiting to be picked up. The lady who took my order laughed and said she hope my name was correct because my voice was so deep she wasn’t sure she had it right. My food was a lunch special with wonton soup seasame chicken, steamed rice, broccoli and an eggroll. The eggroll was veggie and wasn’t bad at all. The rice was a little sticky but it turned out fine. My wonton soup, I couldn’t place it but something tasted sour. I can’t recall any other time eating wonton soup and having a distinct sour taste. My meal portion was plenty and did the job. I would go back and try different menu items. The staff seemed cool enough and the place was clean from what I saw. If I have ill effects from the soup I’ll update my review.

My family and I went to HAO-Q Asian Kitchen for the first time before a performance of our children in Aladdin. We all happen really love Asian cuisine. From the minute we walked in the restaurant our waiter Derek made us feel right at home. We did have a time limited for our dining experience. We looked at the menu. He helped us with any questions we had. There is a lot of choices from on the menu. We then order the food. The food came out in a timely order hot and ready to eat. I was so impressed with my meal. It not only looked appetizing but it was delicious. There was so much food we all were able to take some home. My whole family was so impressed by how accommodating the owner Hong was. Also how quickly we were able to order, eat and be on our way ample time to see our children perform. We enjoyed the meal so much we are going back December 25th with 20 of our family members. HAO-Q is very close to where we live. I do think we will be coming back often. There are many restaurants to choose from but eating at HAO-Q Asian Kitchen is an exceptional eating experience.

I am not normally a bad reviewer. My reviews average 4 stars since I find most places through Unilocal. But this was the worst Chinese food I’ve maybe even had. I’ve had A LOT of Chinese food. But maybe it’s just not that good in Austin. I’m spoiled having grown up with east coast Chinese food. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken lunch special, which comes with soup, rice and an egg roll for $ 7.52. Tasted like it came from freezer. Peas in fried rice looked like they were freezer burnt as did the onions and peppers in the chicken. They don’t put sauce on the chicken when it’s to go(which is how I like it) so maybe I could see better what’s going on. The pieces were tiny. Wonton soup was okay but tasted very salty. Spring roll wasn’t that special but was best part of dish. 2 stars because lady on phone was nice and food was ready fast for pickup(prob bc it’s not prepared fresh). Interior looked all right. This place is close to me too :/I thought suzis wasn’t that special but it was 4 stars compared to this. The only good Asian I’ve had in Austin in the 1 – 2 months I’ve been here is phở Thai son. If there’s more, please share with me!(Chens noodle house was also good and I’m not counting sushi spots).

Big thumbs up! I just picked this place at random to stop in for a quick lunch. my ticket was $ 7.62, for a nice sit down meal, in a comfortable air conditioned clean space. It was fantastic! Just the right size portion to be satisfied without being stuffed, the vegetables were crispy not over cooked, the fried rice was not at all greasy on the sauce was well balanced and did not overpower. Also included a lovely, tangy wonton soup. I had the Kung Pao tofu. I highly recommend! The staff was friendly and attentive. It’s right across from the school on Far West Boulevard, just past Woodhollow. What a happy discovery! I will be back

(ARC — 1310 ed. nt 7A) ************************ CHAPTERVII «IT’S WHATTHEYDO» Hong remembered us. She remembers everyone, but doesn’t show it. That’s how you know where you stand. «See that table of ten women? Six of them ordered sweet & sour. At lunch. At lunch prices. They could have had everything. Now they want separate checks, because three of them had tea.» «Really? No one even asked about the Phò?» Derek was laying out our extra plates and spoons. «Oh they say it’s good Chinese. How can they tell? They’re trying to see what everyone else ordered. I’ll bring your eggplant and tofu first.» Hong turned and marched toward the kitchen. We admired her sandals. Her perfect pedicure, her posture. We looked at each other and smiled. Her flight would leave in less than four hours. «You’re going to miss all this, aren’t you?» «Yes, I really will.»

Average Chinese food at best. Hot and sour soup was the best thing I ate. Things went down here from there. The«pork» egg rolls didn’t seem to have any pork to speak of. The crispy chili chicken wasn’t very spicy and the chicken kind of had an unusual texture. My fiancé had the orange beef, but it didn’t taste like any orange beef I’d ever had. It had an unusual BBQ like taste. The«fried rice» that came with the entrees was one of the weakest fried rices I’ve ever had. It tasted like just plain rice with a few peas and carrots thrown in. Also, the owner dissuaded ordering the sweet and sour pork because she said it was tough. Maybe they should change the recipe?

I was excited to check this place out because of the great reviews. The people are very friendly and the owners wend to know everyone who came in or called. I ordered the hot and sour soup, which was good. The egg roll was good but really more like a crispy spring roll than an egg roll. My entrée was Orange Beef which came with fried rice. The rice was fairly dry with a few vegetables in it– nothing special. I assume the rice that you pay for is much better. The orange beef was different from any I’ve ever eaten. It had a smoky bar-b-q taste, not orangey at all. And not spicy. It wasn’t bad, it was just not what was advertised. Overall, this place is okay, but for $ 20 I expected better and more true to the dish food.

Been here a few times. Not bad, not exceptional, but fast, fresh, and satisfying. Service is very friendly. Last time I came, I had the phở and really liked it. The broth was yummy, and plenty of meat, noodles, and raw veggies. The prices are inexpensive too. My only issue is that they won’t indulge my lazy Sundays and deliver to my house even though they do, in fact, have delivery and are 1.5 miles from my house. Must be a ridiculously small delivery area!

After reading so many positive reviews, we decided to check this place out. As soon as we got there, I overheard the lady up front complaining about how the«help» is terrible tonight. Welp… I should have left then. She was right. Service was DISMAL. It took OVERANHOUR for our food to come out. And during that hour, our waitress never once said anything about our food or if it was even coming. If there’s a manager or owner, no one came by… our waitress barely came by so I don’t know why I expected much more. Our appetizers, the dumplings and sweet and sour soup, came out relatively quickly… but then it took over an hour for our entrees to come out. Absolute torture watching people around us get food… About halfway through my dish(Neptune Platter), it tasted kind of funky and I just stopped eating. By then time we got our check, my face had started breaking out into hives. Then when I left, I started getting ridiculously thirsty… not a good sign. When I got home… I had a full blown allergic reaction to grease. Blech! I don’t think I’ll ever be coming back. I’m too nervous about the food quality. One reaction? Fine. I might have ordered the wrong item. But 4+ reactions to the food? Nope. I’m too scared.

Tried for the first time, as take out. For American/Chinese standard dishes they are far above average for the area. Pork dumplings were good, not outstanding, and were a generous order. I’d order again. Hot and sour soup very good, thick with lots of chunky goodies. Tried the sesame chicken since it’s clearly a top dish with reviewers. Huge portion size, really nice thin strips of chicken breast, lots of broccoli that was perfectly cooked al dente. Really liked that it didn’t feel heavy or greasy, light touch on the sauce, if anything was less than perfect, it’s that it was a little sweet for my taste. Pleasant and efficient service. I’ll be revisiting regularly.

Wellllllllll… I tried it. The initial first 2 minutes was good. The edamame was hot and perfectly cooked. The Egg Drop soup was not a flavor I liked. After one bite I set it to the side and the waiter carried it away without any concern as to why I didn’t eat any of it. The garlic beef might be great and getting past the extreme salty-ness was outside of my superpower abilities today. They offered to remake it but I declined. There was lipstick on my water cup. Next time I gotta remember to ask for a straw. Then they brought the check out with only one fortune cookie between the two of us. And that just felt soooooo wrong! I know this place thinks they did their best. It just wasn’t my favorite.

I usually order one of the chicken dishes when I get here. Chicken lomein, sesame chicken, chicken with vegetables. All are amazing! I love how Hong’s sauces are lite but still have flavor, and her food doesn’t make you feel like you need to run five miles after eating it like most Chinese foods do. You can eat here, and not feel guilty about it. You don’t realize how GOOD her food is until you go somewhere else for Chinese food. Oftentimes when my family has Chinese food on vacation, we hear our selves saying «not as good as Hongs»! If you’re feeling really adventurous, you can ask Hong to pick you something off her menu. She knows her menu from front to back, and won’t lead you the wrong way!

Gluten Free«CRISPY» sesame chicken — amazing! I was finally able to try this well reviewed Asian restaurant in a strip mall full of some amazing little gems on Far West. You can dine in, take out, or order delivery. They said that over 80% of their menu can accommodate a gluten free diet, just at an extra charge. My husband and I decided for the first time to dine in, and we started off with some soups — Hot & Sour, & Egg Flour. I have eaten at many Asian restaurants, and you can tell a lot about a place from how they make these two soups. I knew I was somewhere special when I tasted the yumminess just of the soup. It’s not often that you could excited just about simple staple soups. I was overjoyed to hear that they could make the Sesame Chicken Gluten Free with brown rice. The chicken was definitely crispy and moist. Everything I was hoping for. I was enjoying my chicken so much, that I can’t remember clearly what my husband ordered, I remember it was good, but he was jealous of my chicken. The servings were generous and I had enough for lunch the next day. The service was incredibly friendly, and at one point the cook came out to see how we were doing and if we were happy with our food. I will definitely be back. On these cold winter days, hot Asian food delivered to your home is like a present. They also do have a separate drinks list featuring some wines and beer.

My phone says I have 11 check-ins at Hao-Q, which means I’ve probably been there at least 20 times(since I don’t always remember to check-in). Guess my glowing review is long overdue. Hao-Q is truly a neighborhood family restaurant and if you eat here more than once, Hong(the busy, pretty lady greeting guests and processing payments at the front) will probably remember you and offer to get you the same order you had last time. She knows all of her regulars, whether from dine in, take-out, or delivery, and I’ve heard her patiently handle a call-in from an elderly customer who was clearly hard-of-hearing, steering him to the spice level he preferred and never becoming flustered with the need to repeat herself a few times. I love that kind of service, and that earns 2 stars. If you like Vietnamese food, go to that part of the menu. All the phở & vermicelli dishes are great. If you’re craving Chinese-style, you have options there, too. On the Chinese side, these would be what(at least in my understanding) are sort of classic«Americanized» recipes, but they are executed very well, without too much grease and in huge portions(so you have a great leftover lunch the next day, or maybe can split one entrée for 2 at dinner). We seem to stick to Chicken Lemongrass(with extra veggies added) and Jalapeño Chicken(again, with extra veggies added) — the spice level is always perfect, the sauce never too oily, and the meat of very high quality, so no weird gristly bits. 2 more stars. Soup is pretty much my #1 food group, and the soups of Hao-Q are all tasty and generous in portion. I’ve tried and liked every one, but I always come back to the crab asparagus($ 8, supposedly serves 2). It’s a giant serving intended to be shared, but my family knows to not even try, as I’ll order this for my meal and not remove my fingers from the sides of the bowl until I’ve slurped down every last drop. My warm, full belly votes 1 more star. Yep, it’s in a strip center sandwiched between a middle school and a residential area. The décor is nothing fancy and no one will be bragging on Twitter about being seen there. No matter to me — it’s the great food and the nice people that keep me coming back. Tip: Use SpotOn to accrue discounts. I have a free appetizer waiting for my next visit!
