The server ruined my appetite. I wasn’t ready with my drink order and he took everyone’s email order and my menu without my drink or meal order. I’d rather starve than eat here at this point. My family did though. One of the ribs was raw and frozen in the middle while other ribs seem to have turned out fine. Overall, everything looks good here and smells good but I hated the server. And I’m positive he hated me.

I ordered Chinatown delivery an hour and a half ago and it’s STILL not here. I don’t recommend ordering if you’re hungry. When asking them what’s going on with the order, they were unsympathetic and unable to figure out when I would be receiving my food. The location is ten minutes away, so I am really disappointed with their inability to provide immediate service.

I’ve had sushi in all corners of Austin over decades and Chinatown is hands down my go-to place for birthdays, anniversaries and just because days. I’ve been eating here for over 10 years and the service, especially Jimmy, is always on point and the food is spot on. The best apps are the avocado kama and the tuna lover… so fresh and flavorful, there’s nothing like it. The rainbow roll or the sunset is always fantastic but honestly I have yet to try something I didn’t love. If you care about consistency and standards as well as a warm, inviting atmosphere this is the place to be.

I went a few nights ago and didn’t care for the rude reception we got from the host. He sighed and seemed very annoyed we chose to dine there. He asked if we were in a hurry, went away for awhile then came back and was like ok come on. Not welcoming, felt like a cow being led into my spot at the feed lot. Everything did taste pretty good that visit, so I decided not to let the cold reception bother me. I made the mistake of dining there again last night with my family. I’ve been up all night nursing my six year old who just now stopped throwing up and having loose bms. She has finally passed out. Food Poisoning. She had the Chinatown fried rice. Just spoke to another in my party from last night. They also got food poisoning.

Had lunch with a friend for a little over $ 15.00 per person which included hot green tea, a good tip and Jalapeño Chicken with fried rice, egg roll and egg drop soup(Too much egg? I think NOT!) The menu is as long as a donkey’s leg so you will have lots of options. Service is always great although the manager barely speaks. And, where did they get the cute light fixtures? I have always loved them.

4 stars for a good Dim Sum restaurants in Austin. I’ve never had their regular food. Service has always been nice and the items are always a hit. The prices are a little pricier than a normal dim sum place, but still nice. Go and try out their dim sum if you haven’t already!

I was happy to find a dim sum restaurant after having to leave behind my favorite in Virginia after moving. The food was really good but the prices for dim sum were outrageous. I’ll be back as a treat to myself but I can’t afford to be a regular.

We lived in Singapore for three years and miss authentic Asian food. Although Chinatown is good and we have eaten there several times over the years, it is American style Chinese food. That said, we do like Americanizes Chinese food but we haven’t found a really good restaurant here in the Austin area. Still looking.

Best fried rice in town, also the sesame chicken is amazing but the mala duck is out of this world. If you want sushi this restaurant will give you that too and is really good. Service is great and always friendly.

Super hard option to beat. You want old school Americanized Chinese food done right? They’ve got that. You want something a bit more upscale? They’ve got that too. Dim Sum? They were one of the original Dim Sum places in Austin. Sushi? They’ve got a great sushi menu too. Whether you want fried rice, Kung Pao chicken, or a variety of sushi, this is the place to go to have it done right. Ronald Cheng is truly a first class restaurateur and his passion for all things Asian continues to shine. Not only is Chinatown an Austin institution, the variety here beats the Asian fusion types at their own game.

This is probably the best dim sum in town and that’s saying a whole lot. This is authentic and the variety is tremendous. I usually go for shrimp shu mai and baby spring bokchoy in garlic along with chicken feet and spare ribs. The dim sum is served on weekends just like in Chinatown’s across America so make your reservation early. I’ve gone on several other occasions for dinner and was never disappointed. Still I prefer the dim sum which is their speciality hands down.

I was here just after the lunch hour so I ordered off the regular menu. I was craving sushi and thought«what the heck». I had no expectations really. I actually wanted sashimi, not sushi, although the sushi roll descriptions sounded really good… but they had a sashimi app with baby yellowtail!!! My favorite! I proceeded to order the baby hamachi along with an order of the Tuna tataki and a seaweed salad. The baby hamachi did not disappoint! It was so fresh and delicious! The tiny jalapeños really added to the preparation. It was a 4.5 stars. The tuna tataki was disappointing. The tuna was good and fresh but it did not appear to have been seared at all. It was covered in a mayo sauce. I should say drowned in a bland, tasteless, heavy mayo sauce. Ugh! I could barely scrape enough of it off to eat it. It was a 2 star dish at best and that’s just because the tuna was fresh. The seaweed salad was very generic and totally overpriced at $ 7! I expected something better or a new take for that price. It was a nice atmosphere and good service. I do want to return to try the dim sum. Hopefully soon. Overall, I give it 3.5 stars.

We go here every year for my wife’s birthday, simply because of ambiance and what seems to be missing from Austin’s robust food joints, some classic Chinese. The prices are a little steep, admittedly… but the portions are family style and I don’t get that ripped off feeling like Sway(I know, different style) or other midrange prices Asian. We stopped going to Din Ho because they started cutting back on their portions/price point. Egg rolls aren’t all that great, neither is the egg drop… but my kiddos seems to love both of those. However, the duck is tasty and so are the dumplings… especially the veggie! Also, check out their sushi… and their wine selection. Average score… but my wife loves it. So, it’s prolly more like 3.5, cuz she said so.

Great service! If you have a group of 6 I think this is the perfect spot. The restaurant is attractive, they have great cocktails, and a huge selection of tasty Chinese dishes AND an entire menu devoted to sushi(Musashino is downstairs). Last night we celebrated my husband’s birthday there with my parents and some friends. The escolar appetizer was fantastic! I also really enjoyed the crispy duck that I shared with my mom. Previously I’ve really enjoyed the three cup chicken and the sesame shrimp. Like most Chinese restaurants that serve popular dishes like Chinatown does, they use quite a bit of cornstarch. You can avoid cornstarch by asking your server what is cooked to order, and requesting your food to be cooked without. The fried rice is not good. So sad. However, the experience for a group is pretty great. Everyone will leave happy and full!

Depending on when you go — for Dim sum lunch vs. Chinese food dinner — the experience is quite different. This 5 star review is for the great dim sum they serve. It’s difficult to find dim sum here in Austin, and they do it right. It’s very traditional and delicious. They have a huge variety to choose from and constant carts coming through the restaurant. Yes, it can be a little hectic and crowded with the carts — but that’s exactly what I expect, and like to experience, when I get dim sum. The whole experience lends itself to a family style meal — a social gathering of all to enjoy great food… and after all, thats what it’s all about.

Not sure why this place has horrible reviews. My family has been coming here for a long time, and I have never been disappointed. I love coming for Dim sum. While it is more expensive than the average dim sum place, the food is always delicious and creative. Plus if you ask for anything they will find it for you and bring it back. Some of my favorites are the BBQ pork buns, the walnut shrimp, and really anything shrimp related. For their actual food, I LOVE the sizzling beef. It is AMAZING.

Absolutely the worst Chinese food I have ever had. I’m trying very hard to understand how this place has such good reviews. I had the beef with pepper/«pepper steak» and the quality was so poor I could barely tell it was beef. My husband had a pork dish and it tasted the same as my pepper steak. We left so disappointed and so hungry. This place was a complete fail for a Saturday night. Too bad, looks like a cute restaurant from the outside.

This Chinatown location is basically two separate restaurants, there are 3 locations in Austin. Downstairs is a sushi restaurant, upstairs is Chinese food. They have the same name and owner, but are basically seperate with a different waitlist and hostess. The upstairs serves Dim Sum only on the weekend between 11 am and 2:30 pm. This seems to be the reason for the higher ratings of the food overall. If you want Dim Sum outside of that timeframe, you are out of luck and you are left with the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. This review is not for the Dim Sum or the Sushi. The pork in the Moo Shu Pork tasted exactly like the beef in the Beef with green peppers. In both cases, the meat quality was terrible. The crepes were cold and hard on the edges. The dumplings were marginal at best. On top of it all, it was a cold night(45 degrees) and they had the air conditioning running. My wife was freezing with her jacket on and mine. We asked the wait staff to tend to it, they agreed, but did nothing. In general the service was fine. Hard to believe the website for the restaurant says: WEPROMISE… TOPROVIDEOURCUSTOMERSTHEMOSTPLEASANTDININGEXPERIENCEBYPREPARINGWITHTHEFRESHESTINGREDIENTS, SERVINGTHEHIGHESTQUALITYCUISINESANDWITH A SIMPLESMILE. This is clearly an unkept promise. We both left hungry, because the quality of our food was so poor we couldn’t eat it anymore.

I’ve been to the bar multiple times while waiting for an open table at the sushi restaurant on the ground floor, but last weekend was my first time at the Chinatown restaurant itself. I went for my boyfriend’s mother’s birthday. Our party of seven was well taken care of, even though we arrived in clumps, objected to the original table because the air vents chilled the seating, and no one ordered alcohol(is that an Austin thing?, I wonder, expecting service to be worse if you’re not drinking? Food for thought.). We ordered six dishes between the seven of us, and the Mu Shu Pork, spicy battered shrimp, and Sea Bass were each extra delicious. I’m not super familiar with Chinese food, but I thought everything except the pineapple fried chicken was worth repeating. D.‘s family has lived in Asia and I trust their collective judgment that the food here is the best Chinese in Austin. Our service was polite and attentive and the food was tasty! What’s not to like?
