Usually our«go to» place for Chinese in West Lake, but tonight, Moo Shoo Pork was luke warm. Mentioned to our waiter who merely shrugged his shoulders. Pork dumplings were excellent as always, but the seemingly inattention to having the main entrée come out steaming hot will make us look for another venue for Chinese food in West Lake.

There are a few places in austin where true austinites choose to dine. Chinatown westlake is one of them. Sit at the sushi bar and let chef jorge prepare you some of the best sashimi creations you will eat in austin or anywhere. They source fish from the best asia pacific purveyors as well as the best santa barbara uni(sea urchin) you will eat. Ask for sonny and he will make sure your time here is well spent. Tell them you just want to explore and jorge will prepare you the best omakase in town. Very quaint and relaxed. Skip the madness you find at uchi and uchiko(not to mention the $$$$) you will find better service and true japanese preparation than any other place in town at chinatown.

Unfriendly service today at lunch. So disappointed because I never felt ignored at their former location and the owner would say hello at practically every visit. The server today at the new location never asked how are entrees were, inquired if we wanted to order anything else, or refilled our drinks. Just an overall bizarre, why did I come here, experience. They also used to have more menu options and, now that they have been reopened in Westlake for a little over a year, I expected them to slowly add back some old favorites like Teriyaki Chicken(which I realize is Japanese). The food is good, but the passion is gone.

I loved the dumplings here. They were fabulous. Any kind of dumplings you can imagine they had. The tea was good and the BBQ ribs okay but someone says BBQ ribs to. A north eastern person we think of ribs with yummy sauce and all. It was great conversation.

Amazing food. We had the Chilean sea bass(to die for) plus the honey sizzle pepper steak, Singapore rice noodle vermicelli with cury, ti pepper plus shrimp with jalapeños. It was all fantastic. Like gourmet Chinese food. Alex was our server and terrific! Best food period. Plus amazing desert!

This is by far my favorite restaurant in Austin. Chinese food is impeccable but the true secret is their amazing sushi. Best in town. Allison will greet you with a smile while George makes you an amazing roll and of course Ronald the owner will stop by to say hi.

The Chinatown at the old location was so much better. They had the best sesame chicken I’ve ever had. This new location uses fatty chicken and is never crispy like it used to be, just soggy and average. I’d say mediocre/average describes most dishes here. The sushi here is pretty average, most entrees are pretty average, and the appetizers are pretty average too. I really want to like this place but it’s just not what it used to be. I haven’t been very impressed with their other locations either. I will admit that the restaurant itself is pretty nice. Great atmosphere and friendly service. But the food just doesn’t compare… The other major issue is the price. Most entrees are anywhere from $ 14-$ 22. Sesame chicken or General Tso are around $ 17. Way too high. And $ 9 for an order of dumplings? Come on! I’m sure they price the food based on the restaurant itself being a bit upscale but the quality of food does not reflect the price you pay for it. You’ll get the same type of food or better at Pei Wei and it’s half the price.

I have been going to this place regularly for awhile now and have enjoyed the selection that they have. I’m worried that if I keep going at the regular place that I am that I will run out of options to try. Their menu is not very deep so eventually you run out of new things to try. They offer all the regular Americanize Chinese dishes there but at a steep price. You do not want to eat at this place often if you are a poor college student and want to get a lot of food for little money. Menu prices can be high at times if you are not careful with ordering; some can get up to $ 45 a plate. They have a good selection of sushi items to pick from so if you really know your sushi then you will enjoy the wide selection. It might be better to get a boat and try that first since it offers more of a variety then anything. The regular dishes do offer some choice selections so if you enjoy tofu or pork or duck then you will find what you are looking for. The atmosphere at this place is more up-scale. You can tell they cater to a well-to-do crowd that knows what they want and select palate. The lighting is good with plenty of different seating options. There is a nice patio outside for those who want to enjoy the nice breeze and warm weather. The dishes that I have had were great for what they were and had plenty of food on them. The portion sizes for some plates are large and for others small. Just ask about how much food comes with each one and they will let you know.

I know Chinatown has been around for a while, but it has never been on my radar. The locations aren’t near anyplace I typically find myself stomping around so I’ve never dropped in. I had a hankering for American Style Chinese food, so surfing around on Unilocal I stumbled on to them. While a little difficult to find from the street if you don’t know where it is, the location is convenient to MoPac. The exterior of the restaurant is nice with Asian inspired touches, but seemed a bit out of place against the backdrop of strip center adjacent to a busy street. After a very small wait at the front door we were shown to our seats. The decoration is pleasant, and Mom insisted it looked retro(I disagree). We ordered our lunch combos, and the waitress quickly had our soups out. I hadn’t had more than a few sips when the entrees were brought out. I understand many of their customers are probably Type-A weenies on a lunch break from somewhere in Westlake, but by the time I finished my soup my entrée was no longer piping hot. Since I wanted American Style Chinese food I ordered the General Tso Chicken and egg drop soup. The soup was warm and flavorful, and I’ll appreciate having some the next time I have a sore throat. The entrée was nice, and I enjoyed it except for the side of broccoli which had become cold. I’ll be back, but perhaps for dinner when they don’t assume I’m trying to rush back to my busy day, and the pacing of the meal can be better.

Best Asian cuisine in Austin! Food and service was 10 stars — amazing! You cannot go there and not get the sizzling honey pepper steak! Favorite dishes were: Salt and Pepper Silken Tofu, Steamed Chilean Sea Bass, and you cant go wrong with any of the dim sum dishes which are hot, fresh and flavorful.

Amazing sashimi selections. I work around the area and it is perfect for lunch. The lunch boxes are fairly cheap and filled with a variety of food. decent sushi. Easy place to eat if you work around the area.

Popped in for an impromptu, much needed pork fried rice. Got it to go so this is only for food quality and not waitstaff service. First off, whoa. There was a ton of food. I ordered off the lunch menu and got enough pork fried rice for a family of 4, some delicious egg drop soup and an eggroll for under $ 9.00 The pork fried rice was good, solid. Not too greasy or oily with lots of veggies and pork in it. Egg drop soup was just the way I like it. Lots of egg, nothing fancy. I would definitely say this is a place I will hit up again.

Wow, this is like running into an old friend. We love the new location, décor and of course the food. We started out with two rounds of sushi that were delicious. We also shared 3 different entrees and they were all as good as we remember. Almost forgot to mention their wonderful wine selection.

Unfortunately Chinatown Bee Caves is nothing like it used to be. It was a family tradition to visit the beloved Chinatown located in the Randalls shopping center. We were excited to hear that after missing the place for a while it was coming back to Westlake. The menu is disappointing– not as many options as before and more expensive. The crab puffs that the other China Town used to have were so much better! After 3 times of just ok dining I prob wont be coming back. The last time we were here our waiter was nice enough, but my mom had to wait probably 15 minutes after we got our food for hers to come. It would have been nice to know it was coming– our waiter never told us and kept avoiding us when we wanted to know where it was! Kinda weird.

Great happy hour food and drinks. Sushi rolls are reasonably priced and good quality. From the main dinner menu, the Chef Special Beef is amazing. The beef is perfectly crispy yet tender, and has an great sweet and savory flavor. The staff here is very personable and very helpful. Sometimes food takes a while when they are busy, but it is always worth the wait!

It’s baaaaaaack!!! So happy to see Chinatown back in its original location. Still serving up some of Austin’s best Chinese food but now with so much more. First, let’s talk about the restaurant itself. The décor is awesome, reminds me of an authentic Chinese restaurant in the Chinatowns of New York and San Fransico. The bar is awesome. It has totally become my new happy hour spot. Servers/bartenders/management– Wow, everyone that works there is so friendly. Totally not typical of most Asian joints. I think everyone that worked there came over to check on us at some point. Even the manager chatted with us for a bit to ask our opinion on how our experience was and get some feedback. Now let’s get to the food. Has been one the best chinese restaurants in town for decades and still is. That part is no surprise but what is is the new sushi bar. Holy crap it is fantastic! If you used to go to Kenichi then you might remember George who was there for years making some of the best sushi in town. Well, he is now at Chinatown in Rollingwood kickin but with Teddy making my favorite sushi in town. Yes, that includes Uchi! As you can probably tell by my long winded review, I am in love with this place. Give it a try and I bet you will be too. See you there!

This is my new lunch go-to for Chinese since I found out about their location last month. When we first moved to this part of town 5 years ago from North Austin, there was a location under different ownership just West of this new location on Bee Caves road. It was so much worse than what we’d expected based on our dining experiences at the North location that I never wanted to go. So I was happy to learn that this location is run by the same owner as the one up off Mopac/Greystone. It’s not the cheapest lunch special around — you’ll generally pay $ 8-$ 9 for an entrée that comes with soup, egg roll, and piece of chicken wing, but it’s the best Chinese option for this part of town. The other Chinese restaurants within my lunch radius(Lotus Hunan and Hunan Lion) just aren’t as appetizing to me now. The décor inside is a lot nicer and upscale than the outside of the building would have you believe. They have a decent sized bar area in the center of the restaurant(both alcohol and sushi), though I haven’t had anything other than their lunch entrees so far. I also haven’t tried their dim sum on weekends yet, but I plan to soon.
