Amazing! All I ever wanted in one dish! The Thaali dish was an excellent Sunday special! Staff was friendly too, so that made it a great experience! This Indian food is legit and way better than stupid Tarka! Having been to India recently, this place was just what I wanted and was craving! Now they just need a south location!

Low protein, high carb The special had: potatoes and cabbage Lettuce 2 tortillas Large rice Small 3 pieces of tofu in sauce Small soup The taste was good however the protein portion was not reflected by the price. I am used to Indian buffets where you get more protein so I will stick with those in the future

This is the closest to indian street food that you can get in Austin. Do not miss the bombay express special masala dosa(its amazing spicy).Yes the chutney and sambhar are good too. The samosa sandwich is my absolute fav! Dahi puri and khasta kachori are my other go-tos when I have appetite :)

Amazing taste. Quick Service. Paneer Roll and Pav Bhaji are the best in area. Must visit for chaat lovers.

STALE!!! STALE!!! STALE!!! Stale food. Kitchen looked very unhygienic. As mentioned in other reviews food is no way closer to authentic Indian food. Inconsistent taste. Above all rude owner. There are lot of better places in Austin to taste authentic Indian food. Samosas taste bad, rather buy some frozen samosas from grocery stores.

Since i’m from Bombay, this place lives up to my expectation as its named on one of the greatest cities ever! Spice levels were well catered. Chaat and Dosas are the bomb! Paani Puri was pretty good as well. Highly recommended.

Not a big fan of this place! Don’t get me wrong I like Indian street food and sometimes over here too but I haven’t found this place to be consistent. Sometimes they make my stuff too spicy and sometimes I feel its bland! Sometimes I have tried weekend thalis too, but I find them very greasy and overpriced. But nevertheless, its always crowded and a place to be if you want to experience something really different.

I had very bad experience with Bombay Express. I had been here last week with my four friends. First we ordered Chaats(Bhel puri, Kastha kachori, dahi seva…), to our surprise none of them tasted close to what typical indian chaats tastes like. It was low on everything, neither salt nor sour to trickle our taste buds. We managed to have it just not to waste the food. Hoping we would be served something nice from their hot menu, we then ordered Chole poori and Vada pav, we made double sure that we are served hot on a cold rainy weather. But that was a complete cover up for old stale food. Huh, we had a forgetful evening on snacks. It was totally disappointing to the name«Bombay Express», especially for a foodie like me who relates Bombay to its famous chaats and desi food. Overall: Disappointing Value for money: okay-okay.

Some of the best vegetarian Indian food in Austin. The Thali on the weekends and the Daily specials are highly recommended. Other snacky foods like vada pav, dabeli and the chaat are pretty good as well. The couple who run the place are super nice so ask them if you have any questions about the menu.

The best chaat I have had outside of Bombay. The food and the restaurant has a nice homey feel to it.

My boyfriend was really craving some«Pani Puri» so we decided to try this place out since it is so close by. We ordered samosas; which were absolutely amazing in every way packed full and perfectly fried. We also got«aloo tikki«which was recommended to us by the cashier after we asked her for her opinion for something spicy, and that too was so awesome! It was everything I like about food. The creaminess of the potato mixed with the clean taste of the cilantro make a perfect dish with just the right amount of spiciness! And finally we got the«Pani Puri». I had never had it before and was a bit nervous, but it was awesome. All the elements of good Indian food in one dish!

Bombay express means ghar ka Khana(homemade food) for my husband and I. The service is great, owners are wonderful and Everything here is fresh. We always get the special which includes roti(bread), rice, 2 curries and dal(lenthil). I feel it’s the best bargain for $ 7.99. The food always tastes great and I recommend everyone to give it a try. They maintain consistency which many restaurants lack.

Kimberly K invited a group of us Unilocalers to join her in a Friday lunch here … I had never heard of the place, but I am always up for anything. Boy was I enlightened! I wasn’t aware of how the food is regional in India and now I am. My mind was blown … everything was amazing! Philip B, Kimberly K and Misha S and I all decided to just order whatever we all thought sounded good! It was the best way to do it. Then we were served up family style. There wasn’t one thing I didn’t like. There was this on dish that reminded me of a frito pie — it was definitely Indian street food and simply fantastic. So go here and just order a bunch of food and make out like a bandit! It’s really inexpensive and tucked away in the back of a shopping center off I35 in north Austin, but totally worth seeking out!

Cheapest available plastics and styrofoam used! If in 20 years research proves that cheap china made plastics utensils and styrofoam plates and cups used for hot food caused cancer, this place would have killed more than a few. Love the food but too scared of the cheapness. Never going back.

It’s been just over a year since I reviewed B.E. Happy to report not a thing has changed. Pardon my bold suggestion. Bombay Express is serving the best Thali in this section of the known universe. Served weekends only. Fluffy, perfect rice, masala paneer, dal, veggie stew, paratha, rice desert, & mint dipping sauce. Heaven on Earth for yr tastebuds. A bold mélange of spices. Seasoned well with a steady hand. If you think vegetarian food is bland, if you want to take a spice trip and never leave the farm get to Bombay Express and get it on.

Great prices for sure. Bare atmosphere kind of similar to a mall food court. Otherwise, the staff is really nice and helpful. The combo plate is a little of everything and great to share. Brought friends that had not previously eaten Indian food. They really like it here, too. Overall pretty good lunch spot.

I always forget giving this place a good review that it dearly deserves. Everytime I notice they serve fresh food for a nominal price. They even value your time a lot. I never had to wait for more than 10 mins. I’ve been to tonnes of indian places but never found a creative menu like the one here. Everything on the menu is new and yet super tasty! My hot favourite is the tomato omelet.

I’ve eaten here countless times and I’ve only ordered 1 menu item everytime. It’s the weekend thali. For $ 10 you get an appetizer, two curries, rice and dal(lentil soup), puri(kind of puffy bread) and dessert. They switch up the curries, dal type and dessert so it’s a different combination each weekend. I don’t know anything about the rest of the menu items or how the service/eating in experience is(it seems like it’s a family establishment). The thali is cheap, the food tastes good and it lasts me two meals. That makes me happy. That’s all I know.

Loved their bombay sandwich and chaats. The pani puri and sev puris are exactly as you would find in India. They serve a sinfully creamy rasmalai which is absolutely worth the calories. Very affordable too.

I really didn’t see what the big deal about this place was… We had three orders of the masala dosa and then the paratha, pani puri and kachori and I thought all the food was just okay… Didn’t like the kachori at all and everyone seemed to have the same opinion… The masala dosa was bland on it’s own but it worked really well with the gravy they give you… So I see how people like that. But otherwise I really didn’t see what the hype was… Also the owner seemed to be whining about minimum charge on cards and I didn’t see a sign about that anywhere so that really ticked me off. But I would say if you’re a fan of South Indian food it’s still worth a try!
