Tonight I went to baby’s and ordered a carnicasada plate and hardly no meat. I expressed my concerns to my waiter he didn’t care. So when the manager asked me how everything was I explained to her there wasn’t enough meat on the carnicasada plate she didn’t try and explain to me why and wallked off. and my waiter was ready to go home and rushed us so he can go home. the drinks are only the best thing there.

disappointing but optimistic!!! here’s the deal the family stopped one evening a few years ago after the trail of lights-we fell in love with the ritas and chips/queso-«the best in Austin» and we have been to every mexican restaurant in atx. the food was not good but the last few months the food quality has improved-in fact its been good enough for us to visit at least once a week. the problem is now they fixed the food quality the FAMOUS margaritas are not so famous as we could tell they where watered down-so much so that I had to order 3 and normally after 2 im buzzed-I will support BABY As as I have since my college days back in the early 90’s but for the love of GOD-management done water-down your bread and butter-FYI-if you take the plunge request JP as your waiter he is friendly and if you want extra TLS(tender loving service) he is another reason our family still visits!!!

Unfortunately after walking in, myself and my partner were escorted to a table in the back and left with just chips and salsa, no waters for five minutes while a group of three waitresses bickered in the distance over who would serve us. After the next couple was sat next to us… and served we knew we were no longer welcome. Too bad it is my birthday and I was ready to have a good time. This is just the most recent in a string of issues I have with this place and ultimately they will need more than cheap sugary drinks to keep them afloat.

Dreadful food and service. Dreadful. From the moment we were seated to when we left the service was an abomination. The food was even worse. Most of it tasted like regurgitated feces. Never again. I don’t know how places like this stay in business unless they cater to people who think this is the best Austin has to offer. Guess what. It isn’t.

The food was AWESOME! Appetizer sampler, chili con queso, and fajita combo. Everything was perfect. Frank and Jamie were great waiters. Purple margarita gets you together.

I used to think this place was good way back when, but of course I was a little kid who didn’t know better. Today this is one of the most disappointing Mexican restaurants in Austin, that gets way outclassed by nearly all the other Mexican or Tex-Mex spots I’ve tried in the city. Baby A’s doesn’t just fail on one front when it comes to the dining experience; they fail across the board. My second-to-last time here, I ordered enchiladas. That really shouldn’t be a difficult dish to make well, but they managed to serve me something limp and unenjoyable. The filling was bad — it tasted mostly like salt and cheap cheese — and frankly the sauce was better than the enchilada. Totally inauthentic, cheap-looking, and a waste of money. I gave this place one more try during a family gathering, but this time almost everything was wrong and things looked hugely unappetizing. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup as that’s supposedly one of the better items on their menu. It’s a large serving, but the soup is unimpressive. The chicken is mediocre at best, which essentially leaves you to enjoy broth and melting cheese. That’s not my idea of Mexican food. As for the regular tortillas I got on the side, our server initially didn’t bring them out at all, and then brought out the wrong ones(corn, not flour). He didn’t seem at all organized, and frankly he didn’t seem to care whether we got the right order or enjoyed the food. My mom had ordered a burger, and it came out bone-dry and disgusting. I know this isn’t a burger joint, but you have to have a pretty terrible cook to screw up a burger like that. And then there was the mayo that came with the burger: it was downright nasty. It came out of the package all soggy and discolored, looking like it had been baking in someone’s car for a week. We asked for another one but it came out the same way. Our waiter tried to play it down and said it had just been sitting under a heat lamp or something, but it sounded like a bogus excuse. That mayo did not look edible. I will never go back here. There’s no reason to; if you’re in the Barton Springs neighborhood and craving Mexican food, just go to Chuy’s down the street, they’re 10 times better and will serve you a real meal. Unless there are a lot more people who just want to get smashed on Purple ‘Ritas, I’m not sure how this place keeps doing business.

Go for the purple marg. Everything else is nothing special. We go during non-peak hours and service is usually good and the staff is friendly. I’d recommend getting the nachos. They’re delicious!

So, the food isn’t anything to rave about, but their famous baby A’s soup is among my favorite in Austin. It’s perfectly salted, with a generous amount of chicken. It also comes with a side of rice. The combination of the avocado, the cheese, onion, and cilantro are just amazing. This is the perfect fix to any cold or rainy day. Get you some! Also, purple margs are no joke!

Had 2 crispy beef tacos a la carte and a lime margarita. I probably wouldn’t buy either again. The crispy tacos had no flavor so it was good I got sour cream with it. I got the lime margarita because I thought it would be more bearable then the other super sugary flavors but it tasted very artificial. Go to Baby A’s for their famous but dangerous purple margs.

We went for late lunch Saturday. Awesome Service, spectacular food/drinks and great atmosphere. The waiter made the experience great, he was responsive, helpful, pleasant and efficient. I told him we needed to get to the convention center by 3:00, and he helped to make it happen. The chips were fresh, crispy and most importantly they weren’t ostensively greasy. The hot sauce and guacamole were perfect. I tried both the Mexican rice and the lime cilantro rice and the were flavorful and not mushy, which stood out. The black beans are delicious. I had steak and chicken fajitas. The meat was really good, but could be a little better(a little chewy) and that’s not a complaint– I would get them again. This experience was also great because there was no wait time and plenty of parking. Not typical for Austin, but it was a late lunch.

First visit to Baby As since the late-80s when I was a student at SWT. Fast forward to this fine Sunday morning spent at LegoFest with our four-year-old, and this Madre and Padre needed food and drink. Headed home down S Lamar, and decided to do a «drive by» to check out the restaurants on Barton Springs. We could have gone either way — Shady Grove or Baby Acapulco — but Tex-Mex spoke to me, and the Mr. had never been to Baby As. First and foremost, there was NOWAIT and easy breezy parking — ideal. Our server was cordial, attentive at first, then oddly she was given another large table in a different room(weird), so we saw less and less of her. No worries. Another server assisted when needed and then a lady(assuming management) checked on our table, as well. The customer service was adequate. We’re low maintenance, so we were fine. My opinion is that the establishment started off with an intent toward kitschiness(think Chuy’s), then just gave up. As a result, the interior looks somewhat«run down.» No worries. I’m all about dives. Mexican martinis and purple ‘ritas were lovely. For our party of three, we ordered an appetizer platter and the mixed grill fajitas(serves 2 – 4) — beef, chicken, shrimp, al pastor(YUM!), jalapeño cheese sausage and bacon, beans, rice, etc. Overall: A(ease of access, service, drinks, food) We’ll be back

I’m so happy we found this little gem. It’s on a strip of other restaurants, but the patio looked lively and the parking was easy. Our server Martin was just amazing! He seemed really happy to be here and started up a conversation every time he swung by to check on us– after giving us 5 star service of course. The menu was exciting, and I wanted to try everything, but we settled on the veggie enchiladas, which were fantastic. I could hardly finish them, the portion sizes were very large. Coming back again!

Went here after an amazing church service at Austin high tonight. It was such an awesome environment. We sat outside and instantly my friend urged me to have a famous«purple margarita». It left me toastyyyyy. You are only allowed two because they are so strong! I order a shredded chicken taco and a side of rice and he had the tropical chicken plate. His chicken had so much flavor and the veggies looked so yummy! All in all it was a great night with great service. He suggested this place as a favorite so maybe after every Sunday night church service we’ll make it a tradition to eat here!

I don’t want to talk mess about my waiter so I want mention his name. My friend spilled her drink and I bussed our own table(we were outside and it was raining). We finished our appetizer and then I again bussed my own table. It’s whatever I work in the service industry and I totally understand. I didn’t see my waiter for some time and I made eye contact with a lovely lady named KASSIE. She was very friendly and willing to help. We decided to go ahead and order another drink from her and she was approached by our waiter. He was VERY rude to her. I hated my entire experience EXCEPT for the queso, chips, wonderful purple Rita(great with a coconut fruit dot), and the lovely Kassie. Thank you.

Walked over to Baby A’s after our Über driver recommended we try their purple margaritas. As we were seated I noticed that it was the popular drink of choice. While people that looked like locals drank it up, I noticed others were sipping slowly. If you look it up the drink contains Everclear(its 151 proof). There’s also a two drink maximum. Being an out of towner and not much of a drinker, I simply ordered the strawberry rita and it was pretty strong. Great value for $ 6.25, but I have a sneaky suspicion it lead to a headache later on. Whatever the case, it’s a good deal for drinks. Service was a a little weird but kept it fast and efficient.

I’ve been coming to this location for many years and am always more then pleased with my experience. If you come you must sit on the patio out front so you can enjoy the sun and the randomness of Austin walking by. The location couldn’t be better and I always find parking in their lot. The food: I ordered the Helens plate last time which came with a puffy taco(yum) and chicken enchilada(yummy) and rice. It all was great! Last time I came I had the nachos mixed chicken and beef, I like the chicken better. Drinks: get the purple Rita wow! You’re only allowed 2 is so good. I’ve had the mango also and loved it! Go when it’s nice and sunny out and enjoy the Austin culture.

Ehhh. This place is okay I guess. It’s not terrible, but in the future I’ll probably opt for one of the other restaurants on Barton Springs. We started with margaritas and queso. I had a strawberry margarita($ 6.25), and it was pretty good. The queso was also pretty good once we stirred in the thick layer of plastic-y congealed cheese that was sitting on top. Chips were average, nothing special. My veggie fajitas($ 9.99) were fine. Perfectly edible, definitely not memorable. Definitely could have used more spices — they were super bland. Ditto the black beans and side of cilantro lime rice — bland, bland, bland. My boyfriend ordered enchiladas, and said they were bland as well. Service started out a little slow, but picked up towards the end of our meal. On the plus side, the menu noted that fajita orders take a little extra time to prepare, but they ended up coming out pretty fast. The restroom was a little gross. It only had two stalls, and one was out of toilet paper and the other had a broken lock. Lame.
