When you are a student without a car and you enjoy Tex-Mex AND ate it religiously back home, then you understand the comfort a sit-down establishment like Casa Garcia’s can provide. Chipotle? Qdoba?! Nope. It feels familiar and safe when you walk in. Similarly, the food was just as so. It was the typical quality and flavor I am used to and I appreciate that. It is a good stop for some average, dependable Tex-Mex…but that’s about it. The WARM chips and salsa were excellent. I ordered the Chicken Rachero which was satisfactory. The staff was extra friendly. Yet, I might try other places before going back.

Slightly above average chain Mexican, but nothing to write home about. I came here as part of a group of people trying as many mole sauces as we can around Austin. I got the mole chicken enchiladas and they were OK, but the sauce was a bit thin on flavor for a mole. It just lacked the smoke and heat that really good mole has. My wife got the chile relleno which was pretty darn tasty and the margaritas were pretty good which earns the place an extra star. However, in Austin – the home of amazing Mexican on every corner – you have to do better than that to impress. While there’s nothing wrong with this place in particular, it just doesn’t stand out either.

They make their own tortillas. DELISH. Also, I ordered some unreasonably complicated taco order and they got that ish right on the first try. YES! Then the bill came: CHEAP as hell. Awwww yeah! I wasn’t drinking at the time, so I didn’t try the margaritas, but I hear they are pretty good. Big ups, Casa Garcias, I’mma come see y’all again and again.

For my great-grandpa’s birthday celebration, he chose to have his dinner at Casa Garcia. And because you don’t argue with a man turning 99, Casa Garcia’s it was. They have a small-ish party room that we used for our 50 guests and it was barely big enough. The worst part was that this room wasn’t very well ventilated. You get 50 people in a room with pitchers of margaritas flowing and it got sauna-hot fast. Not cute. Everyone was served the same dish that came in two courses. First was a crispy taco with a bowl of queso and an avocado salad. Personally, I thought it was a plate with a great taco and a lot of useless filler. The second plate was cheese enchiladas with rice and beans and they were average and boring. Now on to the servers, or shall I say server. This guy was on top of his game. 50 hungry people, the majority of them old-ish and therefore cranky-ish were promptly served and refilled with their libations the entire night. I don’t live in Austin so I don’t think I’d be back unless Grandpa wants his 100th birthday party here.

Great fajitas, good guac, plenty of parking, large portions for the $$$ Not my favorite, but I will be back if I am around the area.
