Do Not Hang Around The Varsity At Night only because it is Not Worth The Risk. My friends were robbed from the parking lot and nothing could be done about it. I use to enjoy parking at the top deck at night to eat under the city lights but the same fate almost happened to me. The Varsity Is Only A Cool Place To Eat At During The Day and Very Busy During Game Days. I always enjoy stopping by for a slaw-​dawg and orange drink. The Varsity is the perfect traditional stop to satisfy the kids, or when my wife and I are visiting ATL on a budget. The car hop guys are the absolute best. The day experience can be worth it.

For an Atlanta landmark, this place is slightly underwhelming. It’s always supercrowded, but they literally have 20 different lines where you can order food. The food is just ok, the burger was edible, but forgettable. I literally don’t remember how it tasted. The fries were decent, but lots of burger joints have decent fries.
Their layout is sorta interesting if you chose to eat there. They have one room where you essentially eat in classroom style tables, which is sorta cool if you are eating by yourself i guess. They do have TVs in every room locked on the local sporting events, so you can eat your fast food in a semi bar like atmosphere.
Bottom line– too much of a hassle eating here (crowded areas, average food, super touristy). If you want slightly better fast food you’re better off spending your money on five guys or shake shack.

Took a family vacation to Atlanta. It was a wonderful gift given by my in laws. We heard from so many people native and not to try out Varsity. I was so disappointed.
Not only was our order wrong and took over 20 minutes, but our food was cold as well
The final straw was when my kids wanted ice cream. Only one individual was behind the counter and she was working very hard with other customers who were wanting clothing apparel. Another young lady walked up behind the counter and looked at my kids and I. She then left behind the counter to go walk around. The gentleman behind me confronted her about looking at my children wanting to order ice cream and ignore us.
I was just so disappointed. Had service been better we would have probably bought a few sweatshirts. However, I could not after that service.

The Varsity is an Atlanta landmark but is also a tourist trap. The place is packed at lunch on weekdays and especially on the weekends (particularly in the summertime as tourists pass through Atlanta on their way south). If there’s a Braves or Georgia Tech game, it’s even worse. Expect long but fast moving lines. The food is extremely subpar compared to its nearest drive-​in competitor in Atlanta, Zesto.
Menu highlights, relatively speaking, are the chili dogs and onion rings, but bear in mind, they are so greasy you will feel terrible after eating there so be prepared. Don’t get me wrong, I love drive-​in food but they do something to the food here that just weighs you down much worse than other places in their category.
Everyone should go so they can say, «yes, I’ve eaten at the Varsity» but that’s about the only justification I can give for recommending a visit.

I guess I was a very disappointed with the place I thought it would have more variety (it was highly recommended by my husbands friend who is a foodie and honestly it was ok). Best thing was the chocolate shake and the free hat, my fries were soggy. The burger and hotdog where so thin I could not find the beef. Also, I was not feeling then clean factor here. I gave it 4 stars to compensate my husbands reviews: I give it 2 stars that’s stretching it,
Husband reviews: different, liked the food. According to him my clean standards are above normal,. So he gives 3 ½ stars.

It’s way more about the experience than the food. Visiting Atlanta is not the same unless someone yells ‘what’ll ya have?!’ at you from behind the counter. It’s pretty typical for greasy food, but the pies and milkshakes are good. My brother swears by the frosted orange, but I found it to be a little hard to drink through a straw because it was so icy. Made me wish I got a chocolate milkshake instead.
Best experienced before a Braves game.

I hope that I never have to eat here again.
I thought preparing and serving food this way was not allowed.
I couldn’t even stomach the burger after 2 bites.
Sorry, but I was highly unimpressed. To the point where I don’t even want to write anymore. Stay away from here, folks.

Sorry for the late review but here we go… I gave this place 3 stars because of the experience. I went here with my group. I was very impressed with the interior and the staff. They have the cashiers say their famous line «WHAT’LL YA HAVE» which I thought it was very cool and different.
Now everything on the menu looked and sounded real good… I order 2 dogs which were the slaw chilli dog and regular chilli cheese dog with fries and a coke. My bay got a bacon double double with chilli cheese fries and a Varsity orange shake. All together we spent 21.00 dollars.
Our food was mediocre the hotdogs were small including my bay burger. What I will say is the slaw dog was very good to me. The chilli was not good to me at all. My bay shake was very bland as well. The food was not even worth the money at all.
Overall the experience was great but the food was a no go

While I do love the allure of visiting food joints that I see on television, I generally stay away from places where there are either HYPE or LINES. This time, i ran straight TO the noise and hype. Totally worth it.
I’m from Jersey, HOME of the Texas-​style weiner (and all that jazz). Well, I kinda have the urge to shrink this place, put it in my luggage, and take it from Atlanta, and bring it back home to Passaic & Bergen Counties.
Your standard (yet amazingly tasty) fast food joint, they have an EXCEPTIONAL chili formula, in my opinion. I was pleasantly surprised to order a chili dog and chili burger in which the «sauce» was nice and tight, staying on the item in which it was placed. In other words, I didn’t have a mound of chili dropping onto my tee shirt.
The orange frosty was the shiznit.
Yeah. I’m coming back whenever I return to ATL, shawty.
WHAT’LL YA HAVE, WHAT’LL YA HAVE!!!

After all my time in Atlanta, I’ve passed the Varsity hundreds of times, but not once have I stopped inside. We used to get it catered to work once a year, but when health awareness really kicked in at our company, that ended REAL fast.
We got sent here on this crazy scavenger hunt as a destination and clue. And of course I had to stop in for a Frosted Orange and a Slaw Dog.
The Varsity seems to always be super busy but there are plenty of servers asking «What y’all have.» My server was friendly enough and got my order out really quickly as well.
The Slaw Dog satisfied my hot dog craving, although I wasn’t sure how to add on my usual condiments (I’m a huge enthusiast of ketchup and mustard and love to use them generously). The Frosted Orange was pretty good, but I felt like I didn’t need the whole cup: a taste was all I needed to get the point. I questioned the quality consistency, as mine was nice and slushy (easy to drink with a straw) while my friend’s F.O. looked like it had been sitting in a freezer and had to be eaten with a spoon.
Overall, not impressed. But it’s still an iconic Atlanta landmark to visit and bring guests of Atlanta. Even Obama has been here and I hadn’t in my six years in Atlanta.
