The food here is great. High quality ingredients prepared well. The only down side is that if you’re not sitting at the bar you might have to wait in line behind a bunch of college kids sometimes. But other than that it’s great. Solid tequila selection too. A new Athens favorite for me.

Boy do I love some Taqueria Del Sol! My old co-workers and I make it a point to stop by here every time we are in town. The cheese dip is a great appetizer. You really can’t go wrong with ANY of the tacos. The margaritas are awesome too if you’re in the mood for a drink! Always great service and always great food

The worst Gringo Mexican food I have ever eaten. We got the pork tacos and enchiladas. Greasy pulled pork in commercial produced sauce and bland flour tortillas. This is a nice place to sit and have chips and salsa and a drink with friends only.

This place fucking rules. Fresh ingredients and original tacos. Never trying too hard like some ‘tsunami’ places. Always good flavorful and fresh. Go here

The three stars are for the wide variety of tequilas. The chips were fried in old oil and tasted weird. The tacos were good. I got one carnita & one brisket. However, I do feel that they should serve salsa verde & limes with their tacos. Overall, this place was alright & I probably will come back.

Stopped here after a basketball game at UGA on Sat evening, loved this place! Great margaritas and the food is fresh, quick, and delicious! We had a group of 12 people and you can’t «save» a table until you order your food, but it worked out fine with our group we were all able to sit together. Highly recommend!

I recently ate here and ended up Ill. I cannot guarantee if it was from the food, or I got a stomach bug, but I usually have an iron stomach, and this happened a few hours after eating. If it was from the food, it could have been the beans because they tasted a little off. I checked online and there is a high risk violation. Not cool. I don’t like being sick. The food tastes good, but they need to have more control over their temperatures. Safety has to come first.

This place is hard to access. By the time I find a place to park and get through the line, I’m in no mood to choose expensive items off the menu! That being said, the food is freakin’ delicious. Like really, really good. I just can’t get over the prices though. You get chips, but you have to buy any salsa. A tiny bowl of guacamole is almost 5 dollars! That’s insane. To me, it’s not worth the stress. If my girlfriends want to go for lunch, I usually will just ride along and not have a problem, but I get a healthy dose of anxiety before we finally get settled there!

The food here was excellent! I had the Memphis taco and fried chicken taco. They were both full of flavor and delicious!

Best place for tacos and enchiladas in athens! Their fish tacos are amazing to say the least, and the salsa variety is pretty good too.

Taqueria will always hit the spot. I come here frequently. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the food is absolutely DELICIOUS. My go-to meal: 1 beef brisket enchilada and 1 carnitas pork enchilada in the lemon cream sauce. It can’t be beat. The ambience is chatty and casual with an upbeat vibe, which makes it great for a study break or just a fun meal with friends or family. Here’s the thing about Taqueria. Yes, parking is limited, and yes the line is often long. No, it isn’t traditional Mexican street food. It IS Taqueria del Sol, and it’s great.

Mediocre food. The other reviewers that are raving about the place really need to try a traditional Mexican restaurant that caters to the local Latino population and townies. Tacos are much better and more traditional in seasonings and dressings… and cheaper. Food here is way overpriced for what you get. Try the Taco Stand on Milledge Ave or Tlaloc on Chase street. They may both look like hole-in-the-wall dives, but that’s usually where you find the best Mexican street food.

I used to love this place, but it seems like they just don’t care anymore! Tacos are missing ingredients/very sparsely/sloppily made. We ordered a cup of the chili tonight and it wasn’t even a quarter of the way full, and neither was the queso. Memphis is still delicious, but they need to step it up!

I have a love/hate relationship with this place. I’ve been going long enough to know what to order. You can’t beat the Memphis, messy and delicious. They have the BEST guacamole in town. The service is fast, and the wait staff is nice enough. One of my favorite places to eat, a little different(americanized mexican?) but straight up delicious! So why only 3 stars? I’ll tell ya. One star loss for the stupid food ordering system. I tend to go during the week before or after the lunch rush, but god forbid you go Friday at noon… you’ll see the line running 100 feet out the door. I’ve just turned around and gone somewhere else on more than one occasion because the line is backed up by 30+ people. Get with the program and get another cash register going, jeez. Second the parking. Oh. My. God. The parking. They’ve apparently pissed off the vet across the street who have posted signs threatening to tow if you park there. The tiny«approved» parking lot might hold 15 – 20 cars. Again I’ve just gone elsewhere after trying to find a parking space. I get the vibe that the owner just doesn’t care about these two issues, but any good business owner would recognize that they are losing money/customers on a daily basis because of the long wait to order(while standing outside in 100 degree heat or 30 degree cold) and the atrocious parking situation. It’s a shame the food is so good, considering there are days where I just can’t fight the parking and line.

This is my Athens go-to spot for good margaritas and good Mexican. Try the fish or the fried chicken taco, you won’t be disappointed!

Not so great. Ordered the original taco and it came out very bland. Expensive for what it is. I usually get the fried chicken tacos — I definitely recommend it. Also, I love the queso. Paid $ 22 for a pitcher of margaritas, definitely not worth it. Couldn’t believe how expensive a pitcher was! He seemed to charge me per glass(5 or 6 of us), even though we just wanted to split a pitcher

First, off they have little parking. The prices are decent and not too expensive. They have a really cool dining area & they also have heating lamps. Within like three minutes of ordering my food, I not only received the Salsa Trio & chips, Queso dip & chips, but also my food. My favorite taco that I got was the Memphis & then the Brisket. The Chicken taco is nothing special. My favorite salsa was the verde because it was the spiciest out of the three. Their regular salsa tasted weird because it has balsamic vinaigrette. Finally, the last salsa was nothing special. The only thing I didn’t like was that the Salsa Trio & chips are way too overpriced! The cool thing is that they serve bottomless chips, but not bottomless salsa which really stinks. I also ordered the Queso dip and it tasted really great! Overall, this place is a must if you want tasty food and fast service, but don’t expect to get big portions because you won’t.

The food here is delicious. I enjoy the outdoor seating and the counter service concept. It gets pretty crowded, especially during prime lunch and dinner hours, yet the employees seem to keep things moving. Lastly, I personally love their vegetarian options. Fresh, flavorful, and reasonably priced. The portion size for the side of rice was comically small, but I guess I can get over that.

This place is simply put — AWESOME. I have been to Athens a few times lately and will always stop in for a «quick bite». Their guacamole for starters is the best I’ve had. Homemade, fresh and bursting with flavor. It’s just the right portion for a starter or add on to your meal. The carnita taco is by far the best thing on the menu imo. The pork is slow cooked and perfectly seasoned. I like that it is quick, cheap and delicious. Great job… please consider expanding to Charlotte!!!
