Unilocalers are stating that Stix is closed? What? I actually live down the street so I should have known this, but now I am highly disappointed. Alas, I’ll write a review anyway. I originally became a fan when coming for happy hour at the 23rd Street location over a year ago(ALSO closed), so when I moved to Astoria you wouldn’t believe my delight to find a Stix on the SAME street that I live on. Now I am just sad. I came for lunch one day and had a great mix of shrimp, tuna and steak Stix. I can’t everything remember what we got for happy hour at the Gramercy location last summer, but I do recall getting a mix of tuna and beef Stix as well as calamari. Definitely a great deal, but again, my memory is fading me and I can’t remember what the happy hour specials were… but I do know I left happy. I just wish these two locations didn’t close… wahhh.

Was looking for a place to brunch and didn’t want to wait in line and not in the mood for the dude outside of Queens Comfort. Looked at the menu here and didn’t realize until the hostess clarified – $ 12.95 for a full brunch including a salad and delicious rosemary potatoes(I don’t even like potatoes but these were delicious!) PLUS bottomless drinks all included! I had a Bloody Mary plus a few peach Bellinis. Mimosas, coffee, or juice were other options. This type of deal is unheard of – plus the omelettes my friend and I had were some of the best in Astoria if you like a lot of veggies or filling inside. Each omelette was big enough to share and tasty! My friend had the Western and I had the one with Feta. Don’t think this deal will last too long since it’s WAY too good to be true so head over to Stix for brunch asap!

I’m sad to say I was really disappointed after coming to Stix with high hopes last weekend, having attended a very good Unilocal Elite Event hosted here earlier this year. I could do a lengthy super in-depth review but they already wasted so much of our time Sunday I figure I’ll just do pros/cons. Pros: — Friendly service — Good Greek salad — Good spinach pies — Free brunch bevs all day for«grand reopening» Cons: — Music inside was unbearably loud, which is why almost everyone was sitting outside despite the ominous clouds overhead — Not a single item(water, drinks, or food) came out in any reasonable amount of time. 30 mins for water. An hour for(most) food. — Kitchen exclusively makes well done burgers or at least doesn’t seem to know what constitutes«medium» or «medium-rare»(our party of 7 ordered 6 burgers — they got plenty of opportunities!) — Calamari was also overdone, super tough — One order was clearly forgotten, so we had to ask for them to wrap it to go because the rest of our table was done — Despite ordering 6 of the same exact item, it was logged 3 different ways at 3 different prices on our bill. We didn’t even ask because we just wanted to GTFO at that point. This restaurant is down the street from my apartment and could have easily become a regular place, but I’m not sure I’d come back. I was embarrassed for having picked it for dinner in the first place and having the whole experience be such a mess. I hope they can improve because there’s definitely potential for it.

Went in this past Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. The place was empty. While I realize they’re known for their stix, that’s not all they have on the menu. So my friend and I decided to try something else. Huge mistake! I ordered the tabbouleh salad and red sangria. They were out of the salad, no biggie. So I went with the barley salad instead. Beyond disappointing. The barley was way under-cooked, very chewy. There were literally four, count ‘em, four olives in the«salad»(I use that term loosely.) Barely any cherry tomatoes and a slight hint of cilantro and could not taste the balsamic glazed vinaigrette at all. All in all, I had a plate filled with bland, under-cooked barley with all the other ingredients forgotten about. Worst salad evaaaa! Don’t even get me started about the sangria. I had to send it back and order a beer. It was stale and lacked any sort of flavor. Disgusting. Friend ordered the falafel sandwich which did not have the consistency or flavor of falafel. It was completely mushy and barely edible. Felt like the food was thrown together as if it was an afterthought. Highly disappointing.

Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, and they have few options for vegan people. Vegetables skewers were grilled to perfection and full of flavor.

All around great experience at Stix! The food was super fresh and delicious and the staff was friendly and attentive. Tried the octopus appetizer, sausage appetizer and the farmers blue salad, shit was bombbbb I felt like a god dining at Mount Olympus. Will definitely be returning.

Restaurant that offers an amazing brunch, all dishes focused on only using local, organic products. They have great patio seating outside, and great ambiance inside. I came on a Sunday, was warmly greeted by the staff, and hung out at the bar(waiting for my daughter to finally rise and shine), and enjoyed a wonderfully flavored Sangria. For brunch, I had their brunch special, the Farmers omelet that consisted of egg white, fresh organic spinach, kale, mushrooms, and feta cheese. It came with an organic green salad and Rosemary potatoes that were to die for. This place is amazing-has only been open for 5 months-will definitely be back on my next trip to NY. It was the best meal I had during my trip! Staff was super friendly, food was awesome, drinks were yummy-what more could you ask for?

I had the Macaroni and Cheese Balls, the Corn on the Cob, and Chicken Stix. Everything was great, but the chicken was particularly amazing! Very tender and flavorful — much better than the typical chicken you get at restaurants. Also, I highly suggest sitting at the bar and chatting with Josh. He’s a great bartender — extremely personable and quite funny!

Greek Cuisine is hands down 1 of my top 5 favorites. So when the opportunity presented itself to visit STIX, I jumped on it! Located in 1 of my favorite neighborhoods off 30th Ave, is this quaint, yet modern spin on Greek. Me and my 2 fellow« Unilocalettes» were coming from a Unilocal Event in Long Island City and were in the mood for something light yet filling. Wierd craving right? STIX was it!!! The owner greeted us and offered us any seat in the house being that it was 1 hour til closing. We sat outside, curbside to enjoy the summer’s night breeze. We took our time, studied the menu. Luckily, Cherelle. D is a regular, so she gave us a crash course. We ordered the Mac & Cheese Balls for a appetizer, paemesan truffle fries, kabobs, spinach pie and Greek salad. Sha. F ordered a specialty plate. The Mac and Cheese balls were heavenly, however, they should have been a hotter temperature. The parmesan truffle fries! !!! They were served in a tin shovel that looked like a wheel barrow. Deliciously crisp and flavorful. Fresh parmesan cheese. I ordered a lamb Stick kabob and Greek salad. My lamb was good, however, I wished it had more marinated seasoning. It was a bit bland. I love the flair of this restaurant and the service is impeccable. The quality and price are also very spot on.

I walked by this place dozens of times saying, «I have to try it at some point,» and I’ve very glad I did. Stix has several locations in the city, but the new one in Astoria was my first experience. My initial impression on my several walk-bys was that the restaurant looked clean and modern, but empty. This held up on my visit. We were attended to quickly by the server on duty. It was a Friday evening, so I was surprised that there appeared to be only 2 servers on the time, but considering we were one of 4 couples in the restaurant, I wasn’t concerned for attention. That was my only mistake, as well as the only mistake Stix made. Before I gush about the food, I have to say I was surprised that our server was not a bit more attentive or personable. She was friendly enough, but didn’t seem interested in serving us and that showed as my water glass lingered unfilled. To his credit, the gentleman that I believe was a manager showed more personality an attentiveness, and ended up being the person that finally quenched my thirst, but I don’t understand the neglect from the server herself. It’s my only complaint and a very minor one at that. Stix gets a 4 star review because the food was great and plentiful, the restaurant was clean and quiet, and the food was delivered in a timely manner, important since we were trying to make a movie. I would recommend their Meal Plus option that gave potatoes, a salad, and pita bread to go with two Stix of your choice. That’s what we got(sharing shrimp and chicken Stix) and we were left satisfied, but not stuffed. Just the right amount of food even after ordering their Stix Balls as an appetizer. The next time we visit, and there will be a next time, we’re going to look into their platter options. The Meal Plus was already a great deal at $ 12-$ 17 depending on your Stix choice, but the platter seemed to give even more options with more food. And although I didn’t need more food, this is the kind of stuff I wouldn’t mind bringing home for later. Despite a minor issue with the service attentiveness, everyone at the restaurant was kind, and the manager(owner?) made us feel very welcome and valued. Any place just opening is bound to experience a few minor issues at the beginning, but I’m just thankful that none of them were with the delicious food. Definitely ready to go back for more, and I recommend you give them a try too.

I’m a huge fan of STIX and always pleased with the food and service. I’m a bit late in checking out the newest location in my neighborhood of Astoria but was not disappointed at all. We visited STIX this past Friday and was immediately greeted by the bartender and waiter. I already knew what wanted, which was one of everything but we narrowed it down to the Lobster Mac N Cheese, Chef’s Special meatballs with the Meal Plus. The Meal Plus includes pita, tzatziki, salad, two stix and yummy potatoes. This option is perfect for 2 hungry people. Prices are very reasonable and can spend under $ 30(excluding drinks). Easy going atmosphere, friendly staff and most importantly delicious food. STIX is a wonderful addition and will make choosing a dinner spot in Astoria even harder. Keep it up! =D

One thing Astoria does not lack is obviously Greek food. However, that doesn’t stop me from keeping a close eye on new options that pop up in the ‘hood. My husband I were on a dinner walkabout for something light but delicious when we came across Stix. It’s not in a very high traffic area of 30th(near Steinway), which is the only reason I imagine it wasn’t full of happy dinners. Also, this is why it can now be your hidden dining gem. Their promise is organic, grass-fed Greek food and boy do they deliver. The space is nice and open with really top notch service. Started with the eggplant dip with an order of spinach pie. Both were sensational — eggplant dip was so fresh I wanted to sit it in time out, and came with a few little loafs of organic sprouted bread happiness. The spinach pie was also quite memorable — flaky crust with just the right balance of spinach and feta. Yum. For the main course, I got the chef’s special — beef and lamb mix in a sausage/kabob type — meat-riffic. Also, to mix things up, also tried the scallop skewers — double yum. For dessert, check out the baklava cigars. My favorite style — rolled Turkish style, so they aren’t overpoweringly sweet. I wish i remembered his name, but our waiter was the man. Super accommodating and for reasons unknown, threw in our dessert for free. On top of that amazing-ness, he also helped out my Rangers-obsessed husband by hooking him up with a channel change to watch the playoffs. Really happy with my experience here and will absolutely be back for a happy hour and light snack.

The atmosphere at Stix was very cool and the server/bartender were pleasant and professional. Our server did forget to bring out a side dish we ordered(feta mashed potatoes), but everything else about the service was great, so we didn’t mind. My boyfriend and I had calamari for an appetizer(amazing!) and meat lovers for the entreé(it was ok). We substituted the pork Stix with tuna and that was the best Stix, along with the chicken and beef. I was excited to try the Chef’s Special Stix bc the description sounded great but it tasted the total opposite. The lamb was also good. We didn’t like the sausage. I had a red sangria and he had a peach margarita. Both were good. We will be back for that feta mashed potatoes and more tuna Stix!

This review is for delivery– I haven’t been in their restaurant. Delivery took 70 minutes. I ordered zucchini balls and Greek fries. I called after 50 minutes had passed, and they said that they had to remake my food because it got cold while they were making other deliveries. While I appreciate not getting cold food, they need to figure out how to handle their orders. This was a Wednesday night. The taste was ok, fries were pretty good and the zucchini balls were tasty, they were warm but not hot despite their efforts. It was not that filling despite the heaviness. With tax and tip it came to $ 16 for fries and a handful of balls.

Note that in this review I didn’t try any of the stix — just appetizers and Stix balls. Went here on a frigid Friday night around 6:30. We were the only people dining in at that point so we had the place pretty much to ourselves. The night started off a little strange. We ordered cocktails and they were out of most of the ingredients for them. The changes they made didn’t seem to even make a noticeable difference. But the staff was very apologetic and wound up comping a round of drinks which I thought was awesome. Our server was also outstanding and super attentive. We wanted to try a little of everything so we figured we would start with a bunch of the appetizers and order more through out so we kept our menus. It was happy hour so we started with the apps on the $ 5 menu. The quinoa balls, mac and cheese balls, meatballs, and the fried calamari. Everything was good — not spectacular but not necessarily disappointing. Thought everything could use a touch more salt and maybe even fried at a higher temperature. The quinoa balls were my favorite out of the four. We also had the dip sampler(shout out to the spicy cheese), the tuna tartare(needed acid in a bad way. but very fresh), the shishito peppers(meh), the zucchini balls(very good), the fries(excellent if a touch greasy), and the falafel(the worst dish of the night. Way too dense. Only tasted of parsley). We were so stuffed that we didn’t even make it to order some of the actual stix. I would definitely give this place another try. Price was right and service really made the night.

«OK» is the best way to describe my experience at this place. Heard about it from Astoria post online or similar periodical and decided to check it out. Went in about 9pm on a weeknight and there was plenty of seating available. Right away, the staff was very warm and welcoming, good start. Service: We had one main server but it seemed like there were 2 or 3 additional staff assisting. Our main guy was so super friendly that my girlfriend thought he was someone I knew personally. Very very attentive to our table. Food: The fried mac n cheese bites were OK, my girlfriend who is apparently a mac n cheese«connoisseur» hated it. said the quality was worse than Easy Kraft. I ate it because I was hungry and thought it was«aiggghht», but then my stomach felt the wrath of the greasy cheesiness later on in the night :-/ We picked the chicken and lamb stix combo which came with fries and a Mediterranean style salad I believe. For $ 14 it was just OK. The order took too long to come out considering the place was less than half empty. I get super cranky when I’m hungry… WAH! Quality of the food was A+, what they claim on their website is true, you are getting some damn fresh, clean food! Overall: there are a lot of similar Mediterranean style restaurants in Astoria, and it’s hard to stand out from the rest. However, the prices are reasonable and I would order takeout or delivery some time in the future rather than dining in. Even though you might spend a bit more money, MP tavern(ditmars) and Ovelias(30th ave) in Astoria still take the cake in my opinion!

The food deserves five stars, looking forward to eating there again when they’ve worked out the kinks. My S.O. and I went on a dinner date tonight to try out this new restaurant. Apparently there is another one in Manhattan that has really good reviews on Unilocal.Anyway, most of the issues that caused it to lose a star, I believe are caused by how new the restaurant is. Okay, so we walk in and they are way over-staffed, but no one really acknowledges us until we make eye contact with one of the workers. She promptly rushes over and gives us her name and asks us where we want to sit. We’ve never been there before and we don’t really care, so we let her pick. She seats us next to a table of 3, even though the restaurant is pretty much empty other than one guy at the bar. The place is very intimately spaced, so it was almost like we were sat at their table, with like a 6 inch gap. I’m a vegetarian, and they have plenty of vegetarian options, which is really nice. I’m trying to transition to vegan(mostly because I’m lactose-intolerant), and when I told the waiter I was vegan, she mustn’t have heard me because the salad had feta cheese and the potatoes were smothered in butter. The food came out 30 minutes later. While we were waiting, the table next to us got their food, and one particular lady was unhappy with everything on her plate, so the entire staff was trying to squeeze between our tables all evening. The food deserves a 5 star rating. It was fantastic. My S.O. had a small piece of broken skewer stuck in his chicken, which was a little scary. Had he been a child, he might have choked on it. My vegetable slid right off of the skewers, so no danger there. The quality of the food was just really tasty and fresh. The portion sizes are good. Not the typical oversized American portion, but just a light but filling dinner. We got dessert and coffee(because we were on a date :)) and ordered the baklava cigars. The dessert was way over priced! Really delicious and fresh though. The coffee was sour and old. They microwaved it instead of making a new pot and burnt all they flavor out of it. For 2 dinners with waters, dessert, coffee, tax and tip, we spend about $ 50. Not horrible for a dinner with food this good. I’d just like to be sat a little farther from other tables if the restaurant is empty and get my food a little quicker.

Alas Stathis brought Stix to the GF’s hood. Two long block strait shot from homebase and I found myself in Mediterranean cuisine heaven. There are some kinks in the newly opened location but I’ll wager you couldn’t find me a place sans kinks week número uno? As expected the menu is nearly identical to the original Union Square location. I’ve been to the Astoria location twice and I enjoyed the lamb and pork sandwiches, respectively. I love Stix’s Greek variation on French fries. The munchkin is enjoyed her mac and cheese balls on – you guessed it – stix. I tasted a hint of truffle oil once I was able to convince her to let me try one of her coveted balls. Coffee continues to be great but they refuse to serve Greek/Turkish coffee; a bone of contention for this Greek. Staff is extremely pleasant but a bit disjointed from the flow of the restaurant. Chalk it up to first week kinks as I did. As such, plan your visit with ample time in hand because until the staff finds their groove, your order may take a little longer to arrive than what is tolerable for the average high-strung and impatient New Yorker – like yours truly. Overall a new neighborhood gem and a welcome addition to the Astoria scene. I’ll be back, and back and back…
