Super authentic Thai food. I’ve spent some time in Thailand and have looked hard for decent Thai food, not«American catered Thai”-this place is it. Friendly service, big portions, great food.

Weird hours, never able to eat here. They open at 3:30, not 2 like the website says.

I just ordered the tofu pad thai with no egg to make it vegan and it is really good. I usually judge an Asian restaurant on how they cook their tofu and this place knows how to cook it! Yum! Very quick and easy to order, get in, gt out on a Friday evening.

Some ups and downs with this one. On the plus side, it’s a tremendous value with all entrees coming in between 9 – 12 bucks. Portions are abundant as well — plenty for a full meal of leftovers the next day. Also, the food looks, smells, and tastes the way freshly made thai food is supposed to, so obviously they’re using the right spices and techniques. Unfortunately, the downsides dominate. First of all, gang gai is supposed to have hot green peppers(like jalapenos), not bell peppers. Mine came with skinny-sliced yellow and red bell peppers. Gang gai is also supposed to have more than a few chunks of chicken in it. Instead, the majority ingredient in my dish was bamboo shoots. Tons of bamboos shoots. Easily four times as much bamboos shoots as should be in there. I started pulling them out and setting them aside, and I had an impressive pile by end of dinner. Also, at three stars(*** = very hot, according to the menu), there was precious little kick to my dish. If I come back here, it won’t be for the curry. Also ordered Drunken Noodle(Spicy Basil Noodles) with shrimp. This was better, but again there were maybe 6 pieces of pretty small shrimp in there. And the noodles were stuck together — probably because we didn’t eat them right away after carrying them home. Some other items on the menu look interesting, and I’m willing to give this another shot. After all, it’s very light on the wallet and they seem to have the techniques down. It’s just they need to focus a little more on proportion in addition to portion.

Just ate their takeout. On the recommendation of a friend I went craving noodles. Yes, it is a hole in the wall kinda ambiance, and I have always heard those are usually the best places. Sadly, my thai basil noodles with chicken were drowned in a super salty sauce. A slice of red pepper still had the sticker on it, which was pretty unappetizing. Doc Chey’s version of spicy thai basil noodles is far superior, but I do ask them for extra basil and theirs doesn’t include many veggies. I would try them once more for a totally different dish, but if that dissapoints I’m done. bummer, it’s so close to my new apartment.

I eat at this place a lot. And I have taken tons of friends here and everyone loves the food. Palm is the owner and chef and all food is cooked to order and placed in front of you steaming! A few favorites: pad see eew is off the hook good… the other night 3 of us went and all got it… Amazing. The cashew chicken is as good as it gets too… Those 2 are my favorite but the spicy basil is fantastic, as is the drunken noodle and the teriyaki dish is good on the sweeter side. Some weeks, I’ve eaten here 3 times. Have I ever had a bad dish? Yes… But very rare. Tonight I took another out of towner/newby and he loved the pad see eew and my cashew chicken was good but not the best I’ve ever had there… But the place was packed and the phone was ringing off the hook and the usual lady, Sandra wasn’t there… So it was a little off … But over all… The best Thai in Asheville.

I REALLY wanted to love this place. Being that this is the closest restaurant to my house, and I love Thai food, I wanted nothing more than to fall head over heels in love with Thai Cuisine Express. I love the run down interior, the focus is definitely on the kitchen. You could totally eat in, but the fact is take out is the way to go here. The fact is, the food just left me wanting. I ordered the green curry, and my lady had the drunken noodles. The curry was nice, fresh spices abound, but the rice was underdone. The drunken noodles were the exact opposite of the rice. Over done, limp texture-less noodles drowned in sauce. I’m sad to say that I’ve had better Thai food at mall food courts and that just breaks my heart.
