My girlfriend booked a walk in hot shop session and had a blast! She worked with Brad and made a paperweight. It lasted about 30mins with a brief intro to the kilns, materials, and tools. He would show her each step and then let her take over, so she wasn’t standing there watching it be made, she got to participate and help shape her piece. She has so much fun she was bummed to leave and is contemplating making a weekend trip to take one of their longer workshops. Great workshop!

The Asheville Glass Center was so awesome! It was fun to see the process in person. The glass artists were very friendly and great at explaining the process. I took a set of beautiful pints home with me!

This is a fun stop in the Riverside Arts District! We were drawn in by the class that they were teaching on making glass ornaments and the glowing orbs of glass going into the fire. I ended up browsing the finished glass vases on display and stumbled upon a little sale table, and found a beautiful blue vase for $ 8! This is a great place to watch glassblowing, buy some handmade glass items, or take a class!

If I won the lottery I would definitely buy a few pieces from Asheville Glass Center! But, since I am not a millionaire, yet, I will stick with browsing. This place is awesome and the pieces for sale are beautiful. I love stopping by each time I visit the River Arts District to see what new pieces they have created. Next time that Boyfriend and I visit we plan to do a ‘walk-in’ course so we can make our own glass masterpiece!

If you’re a fan of blown glass, the Asheville Glass Center is truly as good as it gets. Just take a peek into the store and you’ll be amazed by the fabulous pieces, it will be near impossible to keep yourself from entering. Vases, plates and glasses, decorative pieces, paperweights and of course, my personal favorite, the jewelry! I am OBSESSED with blown glass jewelry. The way it changes colors in the sunlight, how lightweight it is, so fragile yet so complex. Asheville Glass Center has a large collection of various artists work AND they offer classes where you can great your own unique piece of blown glass [**cough Steve A., I want to do this! cough**] You can MAKE it yourself, fire included! They have expanded within the past year, and also have a workshop next door that can be rented by artists and artists-want-to-be’s alike. I always stop by the shop when I’m in town, even if just to ooh and ahh over the fabulous artwork. I AM the proud owner of a stunning pair of earrings [Thanks Linda A.!] although I highly encourage you to make sure your earrings are stable BEFORE purchase. Mine were broken before I took them out of the box, yikes! Luckily, Asheville Glass Center exchanged them for me and guaranteed to repair them if they were to break in the future. I’ll certainly be back to add another piece to my collection.

John and all the instructors were excellent and the experience was wonderful! We were able to have«hands on» lessons and see the glassblowing process from beginning to end. The staff will even ship the finished piece to your home! The gallery was full of amazing pieces. I would highly recommend this class to everyone!

I am so in love with this place! Beautiful works of art, really nice staff and artist, and you can watch the artist work in both the hot shop and flamework studio. It is located in the fabulous River Arts District, not to be missed!

My wife and I took the 3-hour class. John was our instructor and was great. Very patient and personable. He explained each step in the process and even when we had to re-make a piece he made us feel at ease. You gain a new appreciation for the hard work and artistry involved in glass blowing and you each get to make two items to take home. Dress in layers and bring some water since you will be working in front of blast furnaces. Also, build in some extra time to wander around the River Arts District and admire the work of all the talented artists.

Excellent experience. I went to just see the process before I left Asheville. Really nice folks. They talked me into making my own piece if glass. I made a drinking cup with the colors of my alma mater(VCU — black and gold). It was $ 60, and took thirty minutes. Well worth the cost, a regular glass is $ 30. I had to leave and the glass takes a full day to cool. So I had it mailed to me for an extra $ 10. I worked with Ben and he was nice and easy to work with. I wish my family was with me so we could all have made one! I would make reservations on the weekend, but if you walk in at the right time you can just walk in during the week.

I always stop in at Asheville Glass Center when visiting Asheville. There’s an eclectic mix of talented artists waiting to teach/demonstrate and have fun while making pint glasses, and/or paper weights. Not to mention the gallery space is constantly growing and changing. I also enjoy spending time at the new flame work shop next door.

Went there on the arts stroll on a Sunday. Great having the artists explain how and what they were doing. A lot of great items for sale as well. Wonderful learning experience, would like to come back for a class.

Cool place. Careful as you walk around the store. I elbowed a glass piece with a small base that fell and broke. They charged me $ 173.

We stumbled upon this fun shop while exploring the arts district. What a great find! My husband and I each made a glass. I am not what you would call a coordinated person, but the instructor was fantastic. We both left with glasses that will hold liquid! This is a really fun activity and a must-do if you are staying a few days in Asheville.

Located in an old industrial building in the Riverside area, this shop seems to have about a dozen artists working at it. The display area is adjacent to the work area so you can browse completed work while watching whoever is there creating new things. The variety of work on sale is wide, from some fairly mundane pieces to $ 3000 glass and steel sculptures which were worth every penny. They also do classes, and my wife took a 2 hour bead-making class($ 100) which she really enjoyed. She learned to make several kinds of beads and got very helpful personal attention. It was a high point of our visit and if we can, we’ll be back for more.

Asheville has some of the best glassblowers in the world! The glass community is thriving in Asheville and this is one of the few places that’s open to the public. You will be mesmerized watching glassblowing masters live in action! Once you catch the glass blowing bug, you can even sign up for lessons. Its free to watch so definitely make this part of your Asheville visit.

Wow, this place is really cool. You can watch artists make beautiful glass art and if you want you can learn to make something too! We decided to make an appointment, but one isn’t needed if their open. I highly recommend making a drinking glass, it is really fun and the guys are great too. They help you a lot of course and make sure you don’t burn yourself. The best part is the next day, you can pick up your glass!!! I suggest doing this with a small group(1 – 4 people). You won’t regret spending the $ 50.
