Went late on a Friday night and passed by the patio where the heat lamps and firepits looked inviting at first but were all occupied and whose seating arrangements looked pretty haphazard after what I can only assume is a bunch of people moving stuff around. We entered the bar area and grabbed a seat in what seems more like your college late night cafeteria with a bar stuck in it. On the screen was Netflix playing Honey and Pandora through the speakers. Food was ok with choices like poutine(fries with cheeseballs and gravy) and optional fancy toppings for your burger(spinach and avocados) which were passable. Better is the beer list and while expensive and flavored-stout focused this winter night, the selection was good with mostly local VA stuff. I took a trip next door to the beer store area and just saw bottles on bottles of specialty beers. I could spend hours in there poring over what to buy and probably end up spending hundreds here. Phenomenal selection in the store. Overall, would go back if in the neighborhood but not a destination to drink unless I’m at the store.

I overlooked this place for a while because the market is a bit strange, but the bar is great: regularly changing taps, knowledgeable bartenders that seem like they’re friends. The food is good too and half off burgers are great on Mondays. Wild meat burgers are always good and change regularly. Fun place to sit outside and have a beer. Highly recommend though it is often crowded.

An evening at Westover: After stepping over a small child coloring in the entrance-way, you will fight your way through the tiny packed patio area to find seating, most of which will be occupied for the next three hours by families eating dinner and ordering one drink for the entire night. If you are lucky enough to find a place to sit, you will wait for ten minutes only to realize there are no servers and that all ordering must be done at the bar. After almost tripping over several children, you will elbow your way to the front of the crowd only to be ignored by the bartender focusing their attention on the regulars. After asking for menus, you will order beer. It will be served to you in a plastic cup for $ 9. You will lose several splashes while dodging children on the way back to your table. You will repeat this process again to order food. The food will be several notches of quality below nearby options. After deciding you need water, you will again force your way through the crowd to the bar, only to be directed to the water fountain inside. There, you’ll wait behind several children filling their water guns, before you take a plastic cup from the stack on the fountain and head back to your table. You will trip over yet more children and wonder if this is actually a Chuck-E-Cheese franchise. Upon your return to your table, you will be told that your beer was knocked over by one of the children. Their parent will not offer to replace it. One child will start screaming, their parent will smile and remark about how cute they are. Before you yourself start screaming, you will close out your tab and leave, wondering how you spent so much money on this experience. In all seriousness, I used to enjoy this place. It was pricey, but worth it to sit outside on a nice evening. However, this place has gone downhill in the last year to the point where I will no longer go. It’s a shame because this could be a nice place to drink — if it wasn’t currently serving the role of community daycare. What should you expect from a «neighborhood restaurant?» I would guess well-behaved kids, but given the parents in this area that’s probably too much to ask.

Went here for brunch after browsing through the farmers market next door. The ambiance is very casual and they have a massive outdoor patio with a TV. When you arrive, go inside and order your food at the bar and they’ll bring it out to you on the patio. The Beer Garden is attached to Westover market which is a grocery store, deli and most importantly beer shop with the most incredible beer selection that goes on for aisle after aisle. Basic bar bites and brunch items, portions are really large and prices are super cheap. The dumplings are $ 3 and you get a basket of 12 or so, the«half» portion fish and chips is definitely a full sized portion for a female and the sandwiches are massive. Not to mention, beers are on tap are delightful, as is the service. I will be back for more!

This was my first time and I hope to come back soon. True local gem and and a rare mom and pop joint with neighborhood charm. The beer selections are amazing and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. It was refreshing to find a place like this in Arlington.

This place was the best. Honestly, I wasn’t even that hungry going in, but it was Wednesday and they had steak night. I got the ribeye with mashed potatoes and asparagus. And boy, they save the best cut of the steak for Wednesday. That was probably the best steak I’ve ever had and I’ve been to fancy ass steak places. I was actually full but I couldn’t put that steak down. I couldn’t force myself to eat the mashed potatoes or asparagus because I wanted to actually finish the steak and it was well worth it. The bartender who took our order was a sweetheart, made us feel welcome and was very welcoming. The place had a Née Orleans vibe to it and I loved it as I love the Big Easy. There was smooth jazz and blues playing in the background and they sold Abita beer, a New Orleans brewed beer. The location. Is a bit out of the way from a metro stop but its well worth the trip if you have a car and a designated driver because I could easily see myself spending hours at the place deep into the night. Love this place!

Came here with the kids one Sunday afternoon. Yes, it is a beer garden, but being in Westover, it is also very family friendly. They actually have TVs outside, so we were able to watch a little of the Nats game. They have a well selected craft beer selection, but it’s not huge. They seem to have something that covers all tastes, IPA, stout, saison a light-ish summer beer, but they don’t have the huge selection of a Churchkey or Rustico. Nevertheless, the ambience is more neighborhood-y and on a nice day, it’s hard to beat. The nachos were pretty good. They also had a wide selection of sodas for the kids(basically anything they had inside). The service was decent, but you do have to order from the bartender, then someone brings it out to you. I will definitely come back.

Why 5? Here’s why, post office, library, playground, bank, hardware store, chinese take out hole in the wall, drug store, 2 old school barber shops, Lebanese restaurant, two cafes, thai resto, ice cream shop, grocery store, organic butcher/deli, all in 1 block and Westover Rules the neighborhood. Outdoor seating with firepits, tv screens, ok live music sometimes, wifi. On a nice weekend evening, watch your shins for the baby strollers – this is a real neighborhood place and kid-friendly. Now the beer. Served inside at cozy dive pub(outside limited portable mini bar sometimes), a different hard cider weekly(or «kegly») and a fantastic, constantly changing menu of beers you never have heard of. Deli sandwiches and more(chinese dumplings my $ 3 fave) served inside or out. Inside two tv screens as well. BTW adjacent in the market is the«Wall of Beer» with at least 100 varieties on sale.

I love this place and we go here all the time even though we don’t live nearby anymore. We love the laid-back atmosphere, the awesome beer choices, and of course the outdoors environment of the beer garden. They have a couple fire pits for cold nights that we always enjoy, and they put flat screen TVs outside so you can watch sports. Nothing I like better than to be able to enjoy a football game while sitting outside. I also enjoy the food — actually I can’t say much about the food because I always get the same thing, fish and chips. The fish and chips here are fantastic, some of the best fish and chips I have tasted and it always comes out piping hot(great for winter nights by the fire!). Husband agrees that it is the best fish and chips. And they give a good, filling amount of fries. I agree with other reviewers that there are lots of kids sometimes and that gets irritating. But a little bit later in the evening the kids clear out, so go at night, not in the afternoon if you want to avoid the kids. The kids are really the only negative I can think of — we always have a great time here and love coming back again and again and again!

The food and drink are of high quality, the atmosphere is cooler-than-thou, and the prices are way too high. $ 9 for a 12oz draft? Where am I, the airport? Nats park? Have fun all you hipsters but be sure to bring extra foldin’ money

Steph the bartender is the best. A great local bar. Has a bit of a hipster crowd, but that’s perfectly fine with me. Expect to see lots of flannel! Great choice of beers, and some good food choice as well. I’m pretty sure I will drop in here from time to time.

To start, me and my girlfriend just moved into Westover Village literally a 5 minute walk away from this bar location. We were super excited that we had a couple bars near us, and this one in particular seemed amazing to us because we have friends who frequent this location and also work at this location. The few times I’ve gone here it has been super hit or miss but I wanted to give this review a one star in particular because the last time I went to the Westover Beer garden was probably my worst experience I’ve had there. This review is also pointed towards one bartender in particular who has utterly destroyed my opinion of this bar on her own. She has short hair, wears a beanie, I’m pretty sure her name is Stephanie. Anyway, this all happened the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. My girlfriend left for home early so I had some free time and hit up some friends around 9 o’clock to grab a beer and possibly a bite to eat at the beer garden. When I arrived, so far so good, I ordered my beer(Limbo IPA, which was $ 5. A rarity to get such a cheap beer here) and sat down chatting with my friends and taking in the warmth of the fire outside. Around 10pm, about 2 beers in I realize I haven’t eaten anything and really need to throw something in my stomach or the next day is going to be brutal. This is where everything hits the fan. I asked my friend that worked there if the kitchen was still open or not. He was off the clock, but did me a solid and went to check. The kitchen staff left, and when I went to the bar to ask for a menu or something most of the bartenders were checking their phones or doing odds and ends. So I decided I would run over to Lost Dog Café and grab a quick sandwich and run back over to Westover to try and finish another beer and munch on some food while I was outside. Let it be noted I was not the only one who had food outside that was not directly from westover. Some people had brought brownies and the bartenders were A-OK with them having them. As I sat down with my food I realized the bartender Stephanie was making a bit of a fuss about me having food that was not from the bar. I totally get this, but at the time I believed the kitchen to be closed and the bar was ignoring me. Let it also be noted that she was NOTONTHECLOCK, and took it upon herself to chat to pretty much every person who it was inappropriate for me to have food from outside of the bar. She talked to my friends, talked to people around me, but never actually confronted me or asked me to put the food away or that she was uncomfortable about it. This is what really made me upset. I am not a toddler, and if you have a problem with something I am doing just ask me about it and I will probably oblige any request you make. ESPECIALLY when I’m out with friends having a drink trying to enjoy myself. She disappeared for a while, I assumed to go tell a on-the-clock bartender about what was going on outside and how I was apparently causing the end of the world by having a $ 7 sandwich from the competition. Regardless of the fact that I had double that on my tab by the end of the night, plus a good tip for the bartenders. About 45 minutes later, while I’ve already polished off most of the food a bartender who was kind of shorter with glasses came and politely asked me to put the food away. He said he wanted to take the food and put it behind the bar or out of sight. I obliged and said I was sorry, but that he was not going to take the food, I would just put it under my feet until I left. He was fine with this and let me know that they did have specific sandwiches they made after 10 and that they were sorry they had to make me put my food away. Now, why is this Unilocal review directed towards the other bartender? Well, she was extremely inappropriate in the way that she handled the situation. She sneaked around in the shadows basically just trying to stir up trouble. I had asked other patrons if they were uncomfortable with me bringing food in, and they all pointed to the plate of brownies that most of the people had been munching on. Instead of being a responsible person, and either going directly to a manager or more importantly right to me. She tried to make as big deal about it as possible, as many people around me were remarking about how they did not care about me bringing food over. I hope that the westover can get it’s act together, because they apparently like to hire people who can not properly handle a small situation like this with any kind of respect for their customers. I had a decent tab, was calm and collected and she made me feel like I was unwelcome or some kind of trash that was somehow plaguing her establishment. I really did not appreciate what she did, I hope that in the future there will be repercussions for an employee who is off the clock who would take it upon herself to make customers feel some unwanted. I will tell everyone I know not to go here.

Sometimes hipsters grow up and have families. This is where they hang out. They have two large screen tvs so you can watch a Nats game al fresco and a small stage where live music plays. There are twinkling lights and random chairs strewn all about. They serve typical bar pub like pretzels and hamburgers… plus some random Korean food. If you want a sugar rush, the grocery store next door sells Pocky and sour gummi worms. They have great craft beers on tap and heat lamps/fire pits when it gets cold out. There are tons of random kids running around so you don’t have to feel guilty imbibing with a baby if that’s your kind of thing!(No judgement!)

Great local place. Love the outdoor seating, when it gets cold, they have a fire pit going. And you can sit outside, while still watching(and hearing) the game! 2 – 3 outdoor tvs. It is great. Beer is always changing which is fun, and they have suggestions and descriptions on their chalkboard wall indoors. Not getting the full 5 stars because the food could be worked on… not the best, but not bad. I just have high expectations for them!

My experience here was on a Tuesday night. There we’re quite a few other patrons but it was not crowded and the feel was very quiet and calm. Delicious craft brews abound! and I believe they had 12 on tap in total. My photo of the main list should be up but I am told they rotate frequently. I really enjoyed the mood lighting outside and the bartenders we’re exceptionally friendly and eager to talk about the beers. If I lived closer I would be sure to become a regular. The folks at the inside bar seemed to be regulars and they we’re friendly as well and we ended up hanging out there for a bit. Sorry did not try the food or the market, but I have heard good things!

I give it 4 ½ stars. Been coming here for 5 or so years. Groceries, Butcher, Beer Garden and the biggest beer selection around. Every hood should have a beer garden. ½ price drafts before 4pm weekdays(?). Good selection of drafts. If they would keep a «real» German Pils on tap at all times, i would give em 5 stars. I usually stop by after the Sunday Morning Farmers’s Mkt and sometimes on my Tues off. Looking forward to the new location in Clarendon, within walking distance. Just feels right.

I was I had a beer garden as cool as this place in my neighborhood! We stumbled onto this place driving by it and we were instantly attracted to it like moths to a lamp post. The outside patio has a bar, live music, seating, and awesome lights to set the ambiance. Since the patio was packed we headed inside, I glanced over the menu and decided to get the wild burger which is a rotation of exotic patties – that night being emu. Patty was a bit dry; however, it was not their fault because emu meat is very lean. They also have a great selection of beers on tap and from what I gathered from the bartender they rotate the selection often. The prices were a bit on the pricey side but I did not even mind because we were having such a great time. Food — B+ Service — B+ Atmosphere — A
