I don’t know why I kept trying to go back to this place to use their post office. Either it seemed too convenient to walk away from at the time or I’m a glutton for punishment. Though I would not wish this customer service ill upon ANYONE, in a way I’m happy to see that others have had piss poor experiences so that I can commiserate and not feel as if I’m losing my mind. The women who run this store are the most rude, irritating, infuriating, thankless people I have come across in a long time. I have been to understaffed, packed to the brim post offices in NYC with kinder service — and definitely FAR more efficient service. I beg of you to save yourself the therapy bills, boxes of kleenex, and anger management classes that you’ll need after buying a first class stamp here, and just go to the little shipping center next to Trader Joe’s or something. Heck, I would rather absorb the cost of buying my own horse and riding Paul Revere style across the country to drop the package off myself instead of having to deal with them. I’ve finally decided: never again. Just atrocious.

Unfortunately zero stars is not possible. Beware of the ignorant lady at the Post Office counter. My wife was there yesterday buying stamps for postcards we had bought on a trip to the Grand Canyon and Utah and this lady started insinuating that my wife was stealing postcards from the store. After showing her where the postcards were from, the lady refused to apologize. Hope these guys go bankrupt soon.

I went into Georgetown Gifts to buy a get-well card and a bubble envelope. The woman at the counter was pleasant enough until I handed her a credit card to cover the $ 4.49 purchase. She then said, very tersely, «Don’t you have cash?» I told her I didn’t have enough cash to cover the purchase. She made a disgusted noise and slapped the card down on the counter, glared at me, then snatched up my card and got ready to swipe it. I said«Please give me my card back.», left the items on the counter, and went to the back to speak to another woman(I think she’s the owner) about it. I described what happened & she said, «Well, we don’t like taking credit cards for under $ 5», I pointed out that the woman in the front was angry and(other than huffing at me) uncommunicative, she just shrugged. I will never go there again.

Georgetown Gifts has a post office on site. Beware, this is not a real post office. I do not recommend using them for anything important to you. They are untrained and not knowlegable. Other than mailing letters and buying stamps avoid them. They have caused my family unrecoverable grief by their mishandling a package.

It’s nice that this store has a U.S. Postal Service convenience center in it where you can mail packages and cards, but other than that, I wasn’t impressed with this gift store. I did like the selection of colorful Vera Bradley bags, and they had some nice bargains on Christmas merchandise and summer knick-knacks. They also had those little booklets you can buy that have facts and trivia about the year a person was born that can be fun for a small birthday gift or stocking stuffer. Other than that, the store sells pretty generic cards and tchotchkes, little statutes and stuffed animals and things. I’m in my mid-thirties, and I was the youngest person in there by at least 15 years when I visited, if that tells you something about the clientele and the taste of the owners. One other downside of this store at its new location is that it’s near big chain stores like Panera, Barnes & Nobles and Whole Foods, and sometimes parking at this location is impossible. I’ve been in this lot at busy times when literally every spot was taken and you had to shark in the aisles waiting for someone to back out.

This is a cute, locally owned shop, a great spot to pick up a card or a quick gift. The owner and her staff provide a welcoming environment; they are chatty and casual, giving it a small-town store feel. As Mae mentioned in her review, the Georgetown shopping complex is getting redone which means Georgetown Gifts is moving… to the strip mall where Whole Foods is on Washtenaw! Yeeaaah! I’m selfishly excited because that’s closer to me. And they’re bringing their branch post office with them. Yesss.

The move is complete: just as the City Council has voted to allow the old Georgetown mall’s demolition, this shop has reopened next door to Panera and Barnes and Noble, across the overcrowded parking lot from Whole Foods. The Post Office now has 2 spots so it can halve the waiting time for Christmas mailing. For this, one more star! RESTOFREVIEWSAMEASEVER: Cutsy Hallmark store — I have to resist buying stuffed animals because I don’t need them! Every child I know has a closet full of Hallmark stuffed animals that were irresistible to some grownup at a store like this. I have promised myself that I’ll never buy another one(yeah, yeah, I promise stuff like that to myself all the time. But I don’t buy as many as I did before I realized that I was hopelessly weakened just by looking into soulful plastic eyes surrounded by plush crafted in China.) Why do I go here at all? because it has a small branch post office where I can mail packages and buy stamps without driving and parking challenges.
