Hate to tell everyone but they closed up. Someone new has bought it and was on Facebook looking for suggestions as what to put there.

Very disappointed in my visit once again. The produce was not fresh, and the marinated steak I purchased from the meat department was very tough and lacked good flavor. I’ve noticed that it is not as clean as it was when it opened. The Dover location is much better. There are much better choices, so seek them out.

Pastries leave a lot to be desired if you don’t get there when they are fresh. It appears as though the same pastries are kept for days. I have experienced going in 2 – 3 days running with no new pastries; and prior days still on the shelf. No indication by Fiddlehead’s that they are day old. And; still asking the same price. Although, I must say that when fresh they are very good.

Stopped in for sandwiches and snacks before our hike — really great selection of sandwiches, very friendly staff, and such interesting groceries and snacks! Lobster roll’s lobsters tasted great(just wish there had been more!!) I was tempted by the chocolate-covered pretzels and the actually-dried-veggie veggie chips, maybe next time I’ll try them. There are picnic tables outside, but no bathrooms.

Fiddlehead Farms seems a little out of place in Alton, but that’s why I love it. You can’t do a full grocery shop here, but this is the place to go for that special dinner or snack. They carry a more organic and gourmet selection of meats, cheeses, wines, oils, and snacks. There downfall, and it’s something I didn’t except is actually their produce. I was hoping to find fresh local produce and while they had some of this, a lot of their produce looked a little past it’s prime.

Fiddlehead farms has an amazing cheese shop, bakery and features quite an array of local products and produce! But the cheese shop is worth the stop every time and the service is always spectacular! If you are in the lakes region, be sure to stop in!

Fiddlehead Farms is our local independent, happy place market. Well lit establishment.(i don’t know why that matters to me, but it does) The produce is top notch without any price gouge. They have a deli counter which provide quick on the go sandwiches for cheap and have a spice selection that is worth its weight in gold. We use the Fish Seasoning on our oven roasted chicken… holy shhhhii… it’s good. They also have a fresh seafood, meat, and bakery counter. Full service. A wonderful little market in Downtown Alton. It’s good to support locals! PS — They also have a small(wish it was a little larger) selection of craft beers, some of which you cannot find anywhere else in this area.

I visited Fiddlehead Farms Marketplace to grab some lunch after hiking Mount Major nearby. My husband and I bought sandwiches from the deli and found a few other treats to take home. My Tom’s turkey wrap had very fresh, ripe tomatoes, quality turkey, and amazing crispy pancetta. My husband’s Fire in the Hole sub with Cajun turkey, pepper Jack cheese, horseradish, and banana peppers, was great as well. The store also has a well-stocked meat and fish counter, plus fresh local produce. I would definitely stop in this shop again the next time I’m in the area.

Fiddlehead Farms Marketplace is great local market which offers fresh produce(including local and organic), gourmet groceries, cheese counter, fresh bakery counter, Meat House butcher counter, full service deli counter, fresh seafood counter, fresh flowers/plants, wines/beers, snacks, and more. The prices here are very good including seeing bananas at 49 cents/lb, imported pasta from Italy for 99 cents/lb, and a dozen eggs for 99 cents. Also, the deli counter makes great sandwiches to order with plenty of variety of Boar’s Head meats and fresh homemade salads(by the pound) offered. Food samples are also given such as the delicious fresh mozzarella & tomato appetizer. I got lunch at the Alton store and ordered a Cajun Turkey Sub with my favorite fixins and Swiss cheese with a bag of chips and can of Diet Coke for $ 4.99 plus tax, pay at the front checkout line. A sandwich savings club(stamp card good in Alton & Dover) is offered here, buy 10 sandwiches get one free. The sandwich(on a soft sub roll) was very tasty! Also, I was going to get a pastry from the bakery, but I noticed some flies hovering over the baked goods inside the glass display case and quickly changed my mind. They really need to keep the pests away from the exposed food. Other than that snafu, I will definitely be back again for lunch! LOCATION: Located across the parking lot from Main Street Café & Bistro
