So good! Very allergy conscious. Baked goods are awesome and the ice cream selections are so creative. VERY filling– beware! I got a regular size and couldn’t finish it. So good that I put it in my freezer. Would highly recommend to anyone in the area.

OMG this place has totally the richest, most intensely flavorful ice cream EVER. I do not lie. Ice cream is completely my favorite dessert and this blows them all out of the water. Do not go here if you’re on a diet, because you’ll blow it. Rightfully so. Pricey? Let’s just say you get what you pay for. I am glad I don’t live closer because I’d have to wear muumuus for the rest of my life. Along with amazing but«normal» flavors like malted cookie dough(to die for!), chocolate brownie, chocolate pudding, traditional Neopolitan, etc, they make out of this world Lavender and Avocado(which, since I am no fan, I do not plan to try.) As with other artisan ice creams, you can taste flavors before you commit.

Is really difficult to find yummy vegan options specially if is ice cream and they have really yummy alternative. Is not the traditional ice cream and that’s what makes it so special.

No joke, this is the best ice cream in Boston. Period. Not just for non-dairy, ALL kinds of ice cream. The staff is always helpful, the baked goods are amazing, the coffee is on point, and again, the ice cream. If you haven’t been here, you’re blowing it.

I’ve read in multiple places that this is one of the best ice cream shops in Boston and the greater Boston area; however, I didn’t find it amazing. I feel like it’s just the hype. The ice cream is different than the traditional ice cream texture due to the ice cream being made from coconut milk, resulting in a thicker, creamy texture. I got two scoops: one scoop of espresso and one scoop of the bourbon maple walnut. You could really taste the bourbon whiskey in the ice cream, and the espresso definitely had a kick. However, this was definitely on the pricier side. I went on a Sunday afternoon, and there was no one here. The employees were very nice. They said verbatim, «Try as many flavors as you want. Don’t feel bad about asking!» I thought this was very courteous on her part. This is a place you’d want to experience yourself, but not quite sure I’d come back here again. tl;dr: Came here from hype, mediocre ice cream

FoMu is AMAZING! You don’t have to be vegan or dairy free to enjoy this delicious ice cream. FoMu always has fun and unique flavors – and they’ll let you sample as much as you like :). I came here after getting dinner in Allston with a friend and it was the perfect end to our night. I got the crack caramel which was soo so good I can’t wait to go back and have it again. My friend got the peanut butter mud pie and he(a non-vegan), said he couldn’t even tell that it was non-dairy! Their toppings are also unique, my personal favorites being the toasted coconut and the foreos(fake oreos). One draw-back is that it is a bit pricey, but it’s worth it to treat yourself every once in a while! Anyone who doesn’t eat dairy and loves ice cream should definitely check out FoMu – I promise you will not regret it.

I stopped by the pop-up location in Inman on Mother’s day this weekend and I fell in love with both the chocolate pudding and the avocado«ice creams». They actually went very well together. It doesn’t give you that overfull, bloaty feeling that regular ice cream sometimes gives after eating. I felt great after! My 12 year old was very skeptical of coconut based ice cream but he loved the chocolate pudding as well. I also loved that they let you try as many flavors as you want! They were so friendly and patient with us. I will definitely be back!

This place is definitely worth trying at some point, but this is not something that you HAVE to eat in Boston. The flavors that they offer are unique! Some of the flavors are seasonal according to ingredient, and it seems like they have some pretty good ice cream innovation in terms of the flavors that they offer. It is also very impressive that FoMu actually made ice-cream tasting ice cream with coconut milk. Overall, I think this place is ok. The ice cream definitely isn’t as heavy and overbearingly sweet. Again, making ice cream with coconut milk is very impressive, so it gets 4 stars.

I tried the chocolate pudding and cookie dough signature ice creams. They both had great flavor, satisfying taste and creamy/thick consistency. I can easily see myself making a point of coming here a lot. Having moved to Boston recently from Philly it reminded me a lot of Little Baby’s ice cream which is a huge thumbs up!

I am not a vegan, nor a vegetarian for that matter, and greatly enjoyed this experience. I love the coconut base for their icecreams — the coconut doesn’t take away from the actual flavor of the icecream, just enhances the creaminess. However, I LOVE coconut, so I which there was a hint of coconut flavor to all of them ;-) I have the strawberry rhubarb icecream which was the perfect balance of sweet and tart… And again, so creamy. It’s nice to have a healthier alternative to typical icecream. I would def recommend this icecream to anyone.

I came here on July 4, 2013. It was hot as hell and my roommate went in to get strawberry ice cream before we watched the fireworks over the pike. «This tastes weird. It tastes like coconut,» she commented, «and it was, like, six dollars!» I had some and agreed that it was weird. She threw it out. Later, we learned it was vegan, and the coconut thing made more sense. But memories of grossness kept me away until the past year or so, when I’ve come around, thanks in no small part to the efforts of my many vegan friends, and possibly, the increased quality of FoMu itself. I like it, now, though I do think the stronger flavors, especially chocolate/peanut butter ones, do a better job of masking the coconut. Pros: delicious, and dairy-free. Oddly filling(that tiny small will be enough unless you’re REALLY hungry). Bestows less farts than regular ice cream– I’m looking at you, Ben and Jerry. Cons: Expensive. Pretentious? Allston-y. Is that a con?

I am not vegan, or even the heath conscious type. If left to my devices, I would eat a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Therapy in one sitting. My sister really wanted to try their ice cream after having heard amazing things about it. We were in the area, so I figured why not. I’ll try just about anything once. I went for the salted caramel and was not planning on adding any toppings until I caught sight of the smoked coconut flakes… how can you say no to that! I frankly was not expecting to like the ice cream at all. I thought I’d eat a bit of it and move on. Man was I wrong. The ice cream was de-licious! It was rich, creamy and smooth. Loved this place. A huge surprise.

They have unique flavors and they’re better than most ice cream flavors because of their coconut base. The best flavor might be strawberry because the coconut flavors accentuates the fruity flavors. But I would also recommend the match white chip flavor too. Prices are definitely higher than what you would normally pay and the portions are smaller. But overall, very good ice cream.

Once you go FoMu, you never go back. That maxim might not rhyme, but I swear it’s accurate. Cross-stitch it onto a pillow and throw that pillow onto a fancy-ass couch. But before all that, set aside your(silly) disdain for vegan food and try FoMu. With flavors like avocado, malted cookie dough, and chocolate pudding, you can easily find something here to invigorate your taste buds and satisfy your sweet tooth. Though the coconut milk base might require some initial adjustment, it is a wonderful alternative to the artificially flavored, overly sweet ice creams found at more popular establishments. It’s also a comparatively healthy option that you can feel less guilty about eating. Besides their ice cream, I wholeheartedly recommend their smoothies and baked goods. I look forward to trying their sorbets soon as well! Pro tip: grab a bowl of vegan goodness at Whole Heart Provisions next door, then head here for a well-deserved dessert. You’re welcome.

After reading such positive reviews from non-vegans, I decided to give Fomu a try. The staff was very friendly and let me sample peanut butter, lavender cookie, and peanut butter mud pie. They probably would have let me sample more had I asked! I decided to get a combo of mud pie and cookie dough. Don’t get me wrong, the ice cream tasted good. It was acceptable ice cream. However it simply was not the same as normal ice cream. Maybe it was the consistency, maybe it was the really thin ice coat, I don’t know folks. But you could sense a difference. Even though the mud pie was loaded with brownies, chocolate ect… it was like I could not taste them. There was no milk and there was no indulgence! It felt like the brownies had disappeared quite literally the moment they touched my lips. That being said, if you cant have milk I can see why you would love this place! I’m sure I would if I couldn’t eat incredible, milky, ice cream. Or maybe if your trying to be healthy and not eating dairy makes you feel better. Either way, if your deciding between Toscaninis and Fomu — go to Toscaninis.

FoMu has to be one of my favorite ice cream places in Boston! They have an amazing selection of flavors, and my two go-to flavors are the Cardamom Pistachio and the Honey Lavender. I’m always surprised that the ice cream is non-dairy because it’s so creamy and delicious!

Additionally, for all those who are lactose intolerant, try FoMu. Why? My favs: + I love anything G R E E N T E A/M A T C H A flavored + «Kitchen Sink» + Pistachio If you don’t trust me, ask for free samples of the flavors!

Great selection of ice creams. Service was also great. I particularly liked the peanut butter chunky flavor — it had chunks of something amazing in it and was the first flavor to disappear. The matcha white chip was also great but didn’t taste authentic, almost as if it had powder flavoring. The vanilla was decent, but didn’t stand out. Overall, tasted just like good ice cream, but not the best ice cream I have had. No real unique flavors, unless you count the vegan part(but even this is starting to phase out in this day and age). If you can’t have ice cream due to dairy restrictions, then definitely come here; otherwise I wouldn’t come here solely for the vegan ice cream aspect.

With all due respect to the venerable Boston institution of JP Licks, I prefer FoMu’s frozen treats for their flavor variety. I enjoy JP Licks, but it seems like their flavors often tend toward chocolate and related flavors. FoMu has some for sure, but they also have fruit-based flavors and also more unusual ones, e.g. apple cider donut, avocado, lavender, etc. There’s always something to fit my mood. My favorite flavor so far is magic bar, described on their website as dulce de coconut ice cream with shredded coconut, toasted pecans, dark chocolate chips, and oat crumble. Forget the vegan label and just try it. You won’t regret it.

I have to say, I was skeptical when my friend brought me here for the first time but I was very surprised and happy at the end. I am a carnivore and I love to eat meat and dairy and I’m not vegan in anyway but the icecream was so good I couldn’t have told the difference! I would definitely come back to this place, but I did notice it didn’t seem very packed when I went even on a hot summer afternoon – which is good if you hate crowds but might show they’re not very popular yet. For icecream lovers, you might prefer traditional items but for those of us who are lactose sensitive this is a great option!

this ice cream is gross. it tastes like coconut milk. I went here hoping to be moved by the other reviews praising the vegan ice cream, but it severely falls short of both flavor and texture and price. one scoop with fudge is more than 6 bucks! the only thing I will say to you is try it before you buy it. I tried 3 flavors. hated them all. but bought out of guilt. I will not return.

I hate coconut and I also don’t trust anyone who is vegan(if you don’t eat meat, you can be trusted). But my vegan friend told me about this place. I was hesitant but went. I loveeeee their ice cream!!! Especially the peanut butter one, it doesn’t even taste like coconut is in it! I usually get the sundae and it’s just perfect. You gotta try the agave gummi bears, bruh the real deal. i’m hoping someone gets me a cake from there for my upcoming birthday(hint).

Really, really, really good vegan ice cream. Also great for people with food allergies. I generally have low expectations for vegan ice cream, because how could it ever be as good as regular ice cream. I can’t go as far as to say that FoMu is as good as ice cream as dairy, but it is definitely the best dairy free ice cream I’ve ever had. I didn’t try the nut based ice creams, but the coconut based ones are awesome. You can’t really taste the coconut, which I prefer, and they have very creative flavors.

Are you kidding me … this is vegan?! It is! I am not vegan or anything special. I just like to eat. I love to have desserts — especially ice cream. My husband and I were in town and checking out Allston when I spotted this spot. I knew immediately I had to stop in. It’s a small shop that is serving up small batch, 100% plant based, kosher, allergy friendly, sourced local, non-GMO and orgnaic ice cream. I mean you really can’t get more honest that that! I had a cup of key lime pie and OMG … it was amazing! It was creamy and delicious. I loved the bits of the pie crust. I wish I could have gone back to get more during my visit. It was some of the best ice cream I have been able to get my hands on … ever! If you are in Boston or definitely Allston then you must make a pit stop in FoMu — be prepared for happiness!

My friend and I passed by FoMu on our way back to his place. We had already stuffed ourselves at dinner. Neither of us could resist this vegan, small batch ice cream shop. Full disclosure: I was there last week and encountered aluminum strips in my medium serving. The staff behind the counter apologized and gave me a full rebate for my order. We faced no similar challenges last night. Though, my friend strategically avoided the flavors that I consumed last time. They also discarded those batches. We ordered pumpkin, strawberry, and chocolate brownie. The staff is lovely and accommodating. You want them to succeed. Unlike other places, they let you sample endlessly so one gets the ideal personal flavor. Strawberry was our favorite. The child size strikes me as the ideal portion. We will be back!

I really liked this place. I also realized it’s stuck next to a bunch of really good restaurants in Allston… So you really can’t go wrong with any of the food in this area. Anyways. For vegan ice cream that’s made with coconut milk. Definitely think it’s worth the cost. It’s a great alternative to people who are lactose intolerant! You can clearly taste the coconut in the ice cream, so if you don’t like coconut… Not sure if you’ll like it! Overall pretty delicious. If you’re going to get a small and you’re going home… You might as well just get a pint…(Is that fat of me?). Definitely seems to be more worth your money! I tried different flavors when I was there, but I really enjoyed the smores flavor. If you’re feeling adventurous. I recommend this place!!!

Great vegan ice cream! Good even for those who aren’t vegan or lactose intolerant. Most of their ice creams are coconut based and I can taste the coconut underlying all the different flavors. Was it the absolute best ice cream I’ve ever had? No, but it fills a niche. Would come back to try some other flavors.

My roommate suggested this place to me(because I am a huge fan of ice cream and desserts), but I kept putting it off because vegan desserts didn’t appeal to me a whole lot. Do NOT make the mistake that I did! I finally came here with my boyfriend last night for dessert, and was astonished by how good it was. The ice cream is made with coconut instead of milk and eggs, and it tasted absolutely fantastic. My boyfriend and I split a medium sized carrot cake ice cream topped with chocolate cookie, and a mint chip ice cream sandwich. The carrot cake ice cream was very creamy, full of raisins, and rich in flavour. It had a mild hint of coconut in it(as expected), which went very well with the carrot cake. The mint chip ice cream sandwich was also fantastic — the ice cream had an exceptionally strong minty taste, which seemed fresher than your usual mint chocolate chip ice cream. The cookie that it was enveloped in had chocolate chips in it, and tasted a bit like peanut butter. Overall, both were perfect. The only downfall about this place is that it’s a bit pricey. Although this is expected, given the freshness of the ingredients, I prefer eating at cheaper places.

You mean that wasn’t ice cream made from dairy but coconut milk? Sweet lavendar earl grey shortbread, small cup($ 4.15) and a cone or a cup is the same price?! Like woah that’s mind blowing. I sat down and dug into my one scoop(really it was more like two) of ice cream, eagerly licking at the melting ice cream off the sides of my ice cream cone, that sounded wrong, but it was so good. The bits of shortbread where delightful and the flavors were all light but present. 10⁄10 would come back again. They have an ever changing menu as well of great flavors.

What is there to say that hasn’t already been said? You can sample as many flavors of the ice cream as you want but you’ll know pretty quickly what to get. The portions are generous. The pastries looked amazing but we were too full to get anything else.(P.S. Share a medium with someone, it’s MORE than enough and you can each pick a scoop.) It’s really amazing and I am so glad I don’t live nearby or else I’d be broke and fat.
