I’ve visited this restaurant 5 – 10 times over the past 2 years and have been happy(and full) every time. This is my ‘pig-out’ restaurant of choice, always getting the buffet. I can’t speak to the menu items, but they share foods available on the buffet. The choices are diverse, offering multiple proteins, rices, pita, vegetables and a fruit or two. You can eat a moderate meal and hit your nutritional pyramid, or indulge in your favorites. They offer a military discount, but I’m not a fan of using it at family owned/operated businesses. But, you will see a number of Ft. Belvoir workers/military there during lunch. Always clean, responsive service, never overly crowded, and comfortable settings.

I came in around 8pm on a Thursday night. It was slow but the waitstaff was very welcoming. I chose to pick up a chicken kebab plate with tabouleh and hummus to go. The place was clean, quiet, comfortable and the food smelled great. I was out of there with food in hand in about 12 minutes and the lady who took care of me went out of her way to make sure I had bread and silverware, even some extra spicy sauce for the chicken. For the price I cannot find fault with this experience at all. The food tasted good, not bland nor unfresh as some have written. I’d eat here again, looks like an ideal place for the local lunch crowd.

We go here frequently for lunch. Almost ate a baby roach today. Went up to pay, she said sorry, and that I’ll get a discount. It was a dollar off. I guess I can’t say much, we’ve seen roaches on the wall before.

Awesome lunch buffet only $ 10.99. Lamb shank was so good, it was very tender. I will be back! The staff was very nice as well.

I am revising my previous review. This place truly blows. We walked in as a tella novella was playing on the big screen. No employees to be seen so we sat ourselves THEN the girl emerges from the kitchen and asks«Can I help you»? …like they aren’t open and we somehow wandered in off the street. The food, what there was of it, seemed congealed and crusty. Waitress demanded I pick two sides but told me I could not retrieve them from the salad bar. She would have to? This place had no customers. The waitress sucked and when we paid the bill none of their pens worked. honest to god. What a stupid business. You don’t deserve any more chances. This was our third and last visit here. Can’t wait for the next business to move in here when you close.

I wanted a quick bite to eat, so I settled down at this little spot. The buffet is plentiful, filled with all your favorites. Spinach daal, various kabobs, pizza, chickpeas, several different rice dishes, tabbouleh, tzatiki, and more. This is my 5th(or more) time here. I work nearby. And I have not one complaint. Friendly staff, lots of military, and a tasty lunch. I always overeat.

Yuck. Food was bland. Would not return. Get sushi next door. Yuck. The buffet had a ton of food on it and when we walked in at 6:55 the gal said«we close the buffet at 7:00. Sorry». Strange. No one was in there. That should have been a clue.

The price was good. $ 10 for a buffet not bad. I like the idea of being able to try things I may not have had it not been for the buffet. It was perfect for lunch. The only thing is it started getting smokey in restaurant from the kitchen forcing us to leave.

I ordered the $ 7 kabab special. What a waste of money. Ground beef Kubideh kabab was tough & chewy. Hard to cut or eat with fork. Bread were pieces of cold Afghan bread. No Tandoori naan bread here. I did like the yogurt & cucumber sauce & Greek salad as sides but not for $ 7++. The hostess Pamela from La Paz did a great job serving me. Place is clean & shows well but it was empty the whole time I was there from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm Saturday evening. Service is great. Too bad the food sucks.

I have been wanting to try this place out for awhile and did so for takeout on a Friday evening. I ordered the popular combo #6, which consisted of the chicken and lamb/beef kabob with a side of the hummus and tomato salad. When I arrived to pick up, I noticed there was a tray of add-on condiments, like pepperocinis, olives, etc but when I went to add a few to my box, I noticed there were flies buzzing around it and saw a couple fruit flies on the food. No thanks. Then I saw the hostess put my sides in the box from the buffett table, not the kitchen. Let me reiterate: the buffett had been sitting out since 11am. It was now 6:30 pm. Wonderful. When I got home, I noticed the pita bread served with the hummus was hard as a rock. That’s not how I like my pita bread. The actual kabobs themselves were tough and not sauced or marinated, but on the dry side. It seems this place lacks heart and has moved away from serving quality. This should not be happening at an authentic kabob house. Very dissapointed.

Judging by previous reviews, I didn’t really expect much from this restaurant but I like kabobs and I like trying new restaurants. The lunch buffet was offered at a price too good to refuse. It’s the same price for regular platter, but this is all you can eat. Fortunately I was pleasantly surprised. There was a good amount of sides and main meats to choose from, and none of them tasted stale or dry. Even the chicken seemed like it was prepared and marinaded long enough to remain moist and juicy during a buffet. The lids they keep on the meats help keep them from drying out as well. I’ve been to other kabob places that served meats that were a lot dryer and tougher even though they were grilled just minutes before. The employees are also genuinely friendly. I can’t speak for the regular menu, but you definitely get your money’s worth during the buffet and I’ll be sure to be back.

We were hesitant about trying it out. First of all, we’re happy with Moby Dick. Secondly, it was 30 minutes since the restaurant opened, but we were the first customers. We’re very glad to stop by here. The ambience was cozy and clean. The hostess was very polite and she tried to explain everything to us. You can order from the menu, take the today’s special, or the buffet. Because it was out first time, we all took the buffet. It was around $ 11 per person. Drinks weren’t included. Buffet was well prepared. Two types of soup, two sweet desserts, and 5 different types of meat dishes. Plus, it had plenty of fresh vegetable dishes. Their white yogurt was very delicious. If you’re a fan of Moby Dick, you’ll love not having to pay for extra yogurts. I loved everything about the choices at the buffet. My daughters tried everything even though they’re usually picky eaters. The only two things that kept it from getting a perfect 5 stars were: Rice dishes were bit dried and crunchy from being out without a cover. The breads aren’t thin and naan like~ These were thick and bland. However, that’s my personal preference of how I like the breads. Over all, we’re going to be regulars here.

Our party of 4 arrived at 6:45 p.m. for dinner and we were the only customers in the place. Not a good sign. Our server was excellent and explained the menu and options. I had lamb shish kabob, which came with yellow rice and my sides — a nice tomato/onion salad and cucumbers in yogurt. The very attractive plate arrived(no plastic or paper products used at dinner) with a delicious meal, perfectly cooked on it. Others had similar but with chicken or a combination of lamb and chicken. We all enjoyed our meal and the service. For a $ 12.95 plate there was more than enough food(meat+rice+2 sides), so it’s a good value. I don’t know why this restaurant has relatively low ratings or why there weren’t more people there tonight(perhaps the 30 degree weather had something to do with the latter). This restaurant is in our neighborhood and deserves your patronage. Try it and I’ll bet you like it as much as we did! We will be back and hope to see you there too!

I can’t explain the negative reviews below as they do not comport with the place I have Ben to twice in the last month. I have been in both times around noon. The food was fresh and everything on the buffet was very good.(I really did try everything.) The staff has been very friendly and quite pleasant. I will be back

So I went into this place opening week and thought it was great. I ate pretty much everything including the chicken kabobs, the rice, and the awesome tandoori bread. For $ 10, you can’t beat this right? Well, I returned last week to this place and the food was terrible. A little background and disclosure here folks. I reviewed this same location in March 2013 when it was called Buccino’s Pizzeria. I and many others didn’t like this place that served pizza among other things and they eventually closed. So now this place comes along, and is it the same situation? Shishkabob Grille has an golden opportunity in a shopping center full of food choices. However, they got a hold on the kabobs. But they are still dropping the ball. Most people that come get the buffet. It is a pretty good deal at around $ 11. However, the food just isn’t good. It stays in the serving containers way too long and all the flavor turns plain. The chicken is flavorless, the salad bar look shady, and the only thing I can honestly say is good is the rice. But rice isn’t hard! The bread is ok but I don’t go out of my way at lunch during the work week to eat bread though. This place really needs to find a way to serve fresh meat and kabob options. Aditi Indian Restaurant up the street has a similar buffet system. However, it is like night and day comparing the two. Aditi has superior industry quality buffet serving containers, the food is more made-to-order so the food is fresher, and it appears they got some solid chefs working in the back. And that brings me to my biggest question of all. The couple of times I’ve gone to Shishkabob Grille, no one looks like their background is Middle Eastern! At least at Aditi Indian Restaurant, all the servers and chefs are Indian so there is consistency in what is being served. Maybe the next restaurant that moves into this location can be an Australian family serving Chinese food…

This location must be snake bit, nothing lasts long and my prediction is the same for this new establishment. We came in several weeks after their«grand opening». Everything was disappointing, the lentil soup was watery and looked unappealing at best. Next we went to the main course; the plastic dishes, plastic utensils were the tableau that this fare was presented. Chicken was average at best and we decided to cut our loses and pass over the dessert. Overall not a great experience, we will not be coming back, if we want shishkabob or mixed grill you will find us at Moby Dicks.

We had the lunch buffet and it was really good! I liked the cucumber and yogurt dip with the warm pita bread the best. The greek salad and kabobs were pretty good as well. The manager and server were very attentive.

My husband and I found this place while we were in the area. Located next to the Matsui Sushi on the eastern part of the Landsdowne Center off of Beulah, there was a big banner that stated a ‘special’ price for an AYCE buffet(lunch at $ 9.99 per person, and $ 11.99 for dinner). The restaurant itself was kind of confusing, the moment we stepped in. Inside, the monitors with the menu stated a different name, Shishkabob Express — I know that there is a location of this out in Fairfax, so I’m thinking this is their new location(the same logo as their website). Apparently, they were the first Persian restaurant out in Dallas, and they moved to the NoVA area. Their menu offers kabobs, soups, salads, and sandwiches. I was really disappointed with the buffet, since it seemed like a mixture of Greek/Middle Eastern/Latin food — there was Greek salad, chicken kabobs(more on the dry side), spicy chicken kabob(all out and was never replaced), beef kubideh(had a funny aftertaste), corn, creamed spinach, chickpeas, tabouleh salad, hummus(with too much chili flakes within), stuffed grape leaves(from a can?), rice, and chicken biryani(that was extremely spicy and more tomato-based(tasted more like Spanish rice). I couldn’t really finish my plate as I thought the food was just very underwhelming with no flavor — the ‘chicken biryani’ seemed to be the best one, but it was just way too spicy for me. I overheard that the rice pudding was made in-house, but it was just too gelatinous in its texture and not tasty at all. Service was friendly, but there seemed to be too many waitstaff and the ambiance seemed to be a little odd. There was an older gentleman with glasses, a customer, who was just horrible — extremely rude and extremely condescending to the staff the whole entire time we were there, which was not so nice! :(This place seemed to have opened recently, and I’m glad I was able to check this place out, but not sure if I’d return! +friendly owners; too many servers
