New to town, I went to Quarters based on all the great reviews. Since I’m still figuring out the lay of the land here, I don’t have a ton to compare it to, but if this is the best priced, best selection liquor store in the area, I’ll be ordering my liquor through the mail. Although some prices were reasonable, some were so grossly overpriced, I almost said something. Not to mention having the same bottle in two places with two different prices — don’t worry, they only charge you the higher price! As a person who loves to create cocktails and enjoys a good bottle of wine, I’ll be looking elsewhere in the future. If this is the best ABQ has to offer, I’m in trouble.

Ricky: spot on sir! Wes: C’mon, give em’ that 5th! even the overflow lot is only 50 yards away! Ken: I looked for my favorite Pinot(Baileyana Firepeak Pinot, if you must know) and it was $ 30flat…in ANY grocery store, it’s $ 36, minimum. Add in the fact that their prices are the same as the sale prices at the grocer OR total wine, plus the friendly service, wow, I’m never going anywhere else. Doesn’t hurt that they’re only 3 blocks from my house, but these guys are great, the prices are perfect, and the selection is sensational. look, Dr. Seuss I’m not, but this place is better than green eggs and ham, so go, Sam-I-Am, try them, you’ll like them, you’ll see…

Good selection of beer and even more of wine. Helpful staff, they seemed to have good advice. They have a wine chiller, cools a bottle in 10 minutes. Plenty of local beers too.

The selection here is outstanding. They;ve got an assortment of just about everything you could want, from Tequila to Schnapps, and back to Vodka. Seriously, if you want it, you can probably find it here. Also, did someone say wine? Because they have a huge selection of that, too. Friendly service, these guys are on top of their game. My one complaint is the parking situation. It’s a little small, but luckily I’ve never been forced into the BBQ overflow lot next door. Either way, not a bad place to fill up on booze.

Quarter is a liquor store with one of the larger wine selections in ABQ. The beer and liquor selection are also good but I have spent most of my time perusing the wine section which is extensive and includes wines from all over the world and in all price ranges. Last time I was there, I was just browsing and one of the employees or maybe the owner asked if I needed anything. I asked about a particular Paso Robles, California vineyard from which I had recently tried a wine and he showed me 3 or 4 wines at different price ranges in different parts of the store. He really knew his stuff. I think if you are looking for a special or particular wine, this is a great place to find it.

It’s hard to get a wine store right. Oftentimes you’re stuck with way too much of something — like Chilean fruit things — or too few of something else — like anything from anyplace other than California. It’s also hard to get a good beer store right. I was happy to discover that Quarters managed both. But, in particular, it was the wine selection that was most impressive. Good varietals, some good vintages, and lots and lots of regions represented. In addition to the senseless overwrought stuff from AUS or South America, they also had some superb wines from both. Also, a really quite good selection of Malbec(which is rare), and a perfectly cooled cave for the white burgundy. Everybody was helpful, but got out of the way and let me dig in for an hour or so. The result was a couple cases of wine, and happiness that I’d found a good wine store two weeks into ABQ.

Good prices with many of the same caveats of their Yale store which I already covered. This location has a much more elaborate wine section. It feels like over 50% of the store is wines. I think they host tastings on Saturday afternoons from 4 – 6 but you should call to confirm.
