My husband and I have been here a few times. The phở is flavorful with plenty of good quality ingredients. The large bowl is big and the xl is just huge. My husband loved that they have a really big bowl and he ate almost all of it. We also had the spring roll and that was tasty too. They can handle large groups and they have an extensive menu(something for everyone). Their menu is priced well and that will definitely keep up coming back time and time again.

Stopped by for some phở after my daughter’s soccer game on a rainy, cold day… hit the spot. Everything was delicious!

Coming back from watching Star Wars, we were hungry so we stopped in front of Phở Anh Dao to decide where to eat, we decided to eat some phở. We each ordered a large phở bowl since we thought the warm broth would be good. I got the meatball phở which had 10 meatball halves, a good serving of noodles, onions, and broth. The broth was okay; I liked it more than the oily broth from Sidestreet Phở but it wasn’t one of the best. It has gotten better since I first had it here so I expect it to continue to get better. I felt filled when I left the restaurant but ended up being hungry an hour later. The service was good with the waiter checking on us an appropriate amount. My friends told me that the restroom could’ve been much cleaner and that I should go if I only want to wash my hands so I waited to go home to use my own.

I just came by with my boyfriend for some soup on a cold Friday night, and I’m so glad that we came! I ordered a small Bun Bo Hue; I asked for it to be less spicy. Gosh, it was delicious! Just had a nice flavor and it was relatively cheap, about 8 dollars or so. Also ordered the #1 combination beef phở, size extra large. Waow, it was huge! My bf finished it all, of course. We both felt very satisfied wth the service and the soups. I didn’t get thirsty at all after, which means I guess they use less sodium or less MSG, yes! Their thai iced tea is good too. This restaurant has a large parking lot, friendly service, and awesome homey style soup to enjoy, especially on a cold winter night. Will be coming back more often!

Phở-getaboutit! It’s the sweet baby cousin of the original spot in Oakland. The broth is the same goodness that you find in our hipper neighbor to the east but the tables are less sticky. You still get all the secret animal parts off the cow that I love so much and you can tell this new restaurant is really trying to win you over by the sincere service of the waitstaff. I’ve had nothing but the fresh spring rolls and the beef phở and I’m a fan of both. This is not a date night restaurant(actually, I think it’s an old Denny’s) but if your looking for traditional phở, this place hits the spot.

Bright, newly renovated, clean and nice seating. Food was really good too for a good price, all around solid restaurant. 2nd best Vietnamese restaurant in Alameda, we’ll come back for sure. Only downside is that it’s on Webster part of town, but it gives us more of a reason to come on this part of Alameda. Been here 3 times now and ordered different noodle bowls each time and not disappointed. This place is solid on food, price and inside décor.

Success. New to the area and I had to find thee perfect phở spot. There is no better time to search, then in sickness. The service was great, the waitress was nice in person and over the phone. I ordered bun bo hue. The broth was perfect, full of favor that punched my taste buds :) I Definitely will be back to try more on the menu!

My wife and I had dinner here on Friday night and were pleasantly surprised by the experience. The service was very good. The waiters were very friendly and eager to please. One of our dishes came out to the table lukewarm and they sent it back to the kitchen to be warmed without any fuss and making apologies. The food was very tasty and satisfying. I had the beef phở and my wife had the chicken curry which were both delicious. We will definitely go back.

We take our phở very seriously at my house and compare restaurants and broth incessantly. After living up the street from its Oakland sister restaurant, we were excited to see Phở Anh Dao come to Alameda! They are our favorite phở broth on this side of the island(Sidestreet Phở on Encinal and Park is the other fave and Le Cheval has got the prize for Oakland). Definitely recommend checking them out.

8÷7÷15: Edible, but not much better than that. Phở noodles extremely clumped and broken. Very limited menu. They got the standard phở, but nothing too authentic. Their rice dishes are more American than Vietnamese, with things like Korean short rib and such. No combo rice dishes with the authentic Vietnamese variations of ground meat as meatballs and cakes. Just a bunch of popular Americanized Chinese and Korean stuff. This is probably the most Americanized menu I’ve ever seen in a phở place. 1. #01. Phở Dac Biet Large $ 8.25: In the list of meats, notice the lack of «rare beef.» Again, that goes with the American theme – nothing to scare people away. Everything is «well-done.» Anyway, as noted before, the noodles came very clumped and broken up. Was very hard to eat with their plastic chopsticks(and I am very good with chopsticks.) The meat is as it says – well done. The basil it comes with was very non-fresh and small. Very poor quality. Probably the worst quality basil I’ve ever seen in a phở place from anywhere. The large size was mostly soup and noodles, but yeah, it is definitely large. I didn’t finish. Anyway, it’s edible, but definitely sub-par. 3⁄10. Service was good. Food sucks. Note: $ 10 minimum for CC. So, yeah, I couldn’t pay with CC. 2⁄5 #vietnamese #phở

The broth is bland and not flavorful. As a phở restaurant, the broth is one of the most important parts and it was difficult to enjoy my bowl of phở when it didn’t even taste like phở because of the broth. This did not satisfy my phở craving. My waitress obviously couldn’t handle carrying large bowls of phở because she practically dropped it in front of my little cousin, almost spilling on her. If you can’t carry a large bowl of phở, you really shouldn’t be serving it to people, Other than that, the restaurant is quite clean and the servers are very nice which is rare for an Asian restaurant. And the waiter there is pretty cute.

As I drove down Webster St as I casually do when I come visit my old home town, my eyes couldn’t help but stare at the name and as my mouth dropped, I thought to myself, I HAVETOHAVEIT!(and is this in relation to the one in Sac or Oakland?) Well, of course, it had to be owned by the owners from Oakland, not that it is a bad thing(because I never tried the one from Oakland, but I knew the one from Sac is AMAZING and my all time fav.) After having this place for the first time, I have to hand it down for them, I am pretty impressed. 1) Phở #4 Soup base: excellent! It was very flavorful and captured the beef taste very well. I is more on the on the sweater tasting side, which I like. Meat: There was a decent amount of meat, however, I wasn’t to fond of the cuts and they weren’t as soft as I like it. A little tough, but it was also my fault for not asking for the rare meat on the side like I normally do. Noodles: They were too stuck together in a block, I recommend when you first get your bowl ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS break up the noodles(with any phở restaurant, but this place I absolutely had to, most of the time, you may get away without doing it or breaking up the noodles as you go). I like how the noodles weren’t too soggy or hard, just the fact that they stuck together was my main concern and my friends felt the same way. Portion: pretty big, I couldn’t finish mine. 2) Avocado Shake — BOMB! It felt so good to have a place that could make this correctly! Although I only had the phở, they have a wide variety of items on the menu. I have yet to try them the next time I am around town. Service: It seemed pretty good, they asked how we were doing during our meal. I guess I would say, above average than most vietnamese restaurants, but you don’t go to vietnamese restaurants for service, you go to eat and get out. The servers were younger, which made it easier to communicate and they seemed to be on top of things. Overall: I am glad theres a phở restaurant close by with decent parking and decent phở at a decent price.

I’ve been asking for a real Phở place to open in Alameda, but I never thought I’d have my wishes granted with such a legitimate name in Vietnamese food! Some of you super O.G. status Phở-heads might know Phở Anh Dao from their other location over by Lake Merritt. It was there before all the gentrification and it still remains genuine in its offering, with hipsters loitering outside now instead of hobos. This new one is good too… but it’s different. That’s about the only comparison I’m going to make between the two because they’re entirely different animals. It’s like trying to compare the nearby Otaez in Alameda to the original deep in the ghettos of East Oakland(I keeps my Bay Area food knowledge so real you can’t even handle it). Both are good in their own way but they certainly aren’t the same, and they can’t be baby. That’s OK though because Anh Dao Alameda maintains a fitting portion of the same all-star phở, rice plate, and vermicelli menu. They even have additional specialties like that Bo Kho beef stew, which is more common to the Vietnamese meccas of San Jose or Concord. It’s a treat to have right here in Alameda for a change. In addition to your standard Vietnamese dishes, they’ve made the bold expansion in providing a seafood blowout from their joint restaurant, Bucket of Crawfish. If you’ve eaten at Boiling Crab or Rockin’ Crawfish, you know exactly what this is. If you don’t then I can’t help you sucka. It seems awkward at first to separate the two while having them in the same building, but you quickly realize that it really only means you choose from two menus instead of just one. In my opinion it’s a genius pairing because there is most likely a strong intersection of customers that eat at both types of places. Down to some specifics. In total, we’ve tried the mussels in the combo sauce, fried catfish, grilled pork rice plate, and a slew of their appetizers. My favorite so far has been the grilled pork, which had the perfect amount of char. I wish they had pork chops though. Generally, all of the items we tried were top notch. Or rather, medium notch, which is top notch for Vietnamese food in Alameda. I can’t stress enough that there have not been any legitimate Vietnamese restaurants in Alameda previously to Anh Dao. Eat here to get that real flavor!

Sorry Anh Dao Alameda, but Anh Dao Oakland all the way! Pls also educate your young servers as to what’s in what soup. Don’t tell me «they’re pretty much the same» when we ask what’s the difference between #1& #3.

How is my namesake? Well, I wish I could be prouder of this place. The new location just doesn’t compare to the original in Oakland. The menu offers only half of the Oakland menu and all the vegetarian options are gone. No tofu claypot rice for me this time… wahh. This place definitely seems to cater more to the college students at nearby COA. When my dad ordered his phở in Vietnamese, they couldn’t even understand him. Sadly, this place is just not legit Vietnamese… and with so many good authentic options just on the other side of the tunnel, I wouldn’t waste my time here.

This place is located right through the Alameda tube on Webster… It’s basically a 2-in-1 restaurant which is Bucket O’ Crawfish to the left, and Vietnamese food to the right. Unfortunately, we didn’t have to make a decision as only the vietnamese side was open during lunch, The crawfish place doesn’t open until 3 pm. Items ordered: * Beef strew(smaller bowl) with carrots was delicious accompanied with a soft, light fresh baguette. Yum! * Deep fried spring rolls(2 pcs for $ 2.75) were light, crispy, flavorful accompanied with sweet chili sauce * Fresh spring rolls with sliced bbq pork and shrimp — accompanied with peanut sauce All nicely flavored items and reasonably priced but when you work near Chinatown in Oakland it makes visiting here hard to come by

Did they change their chef since my last visit? Wow, it wasn’t good at all when I was there on Thursday night. I’m so disappointed. Here are my eats: Spring roll with shrimp — Loosely packed with too much lettuce with ends cut up equal disaster. It fell apart as I attempted to eat it. Too watery and bland due to too much lettuce. It was probably the most amateurish spring rolls I’ve eaten in a long, long time. Yellow curry with chicken — This was my husband’s dish. The flavor of the curry was ok, but the chicken breasts inside were pre-cooked, then sliced, then put in the curry and were very dry. Little baby corn, tasteless. Onions, waaaay undercooked. Bun/vermicelli with imperial rolls and grilled pork — A complete disaster. I ordered this because it was a warm, humid day. And out came this dish with piping hot noodles, not well drained. It’s supposed to be cold or at least cooled. Imperial rolls were obviously somewhat stale from the steam, the greens and lettuce were warm because of the heat, and even with the fish sauce it was bland because it was watery to start with. On top of all that the pork was bitter from the grill. It doesn’t look bad, but when I ate them they were all bitter from the grill. Do they not clean the grill? Extremely disappointed because my last dining experience was so good. Service was still good, but the food was awful. I hope they hire someone who can cook. I’d like to go back for their phở again since it was good last time, but then again I’m not in a hurry to go back to this place after this experience.

One word: BLAND As the other reviewer mentioned, this Phở Anh Dao shares the same building as the crawfish restaurant, but they’re too different restaurants. Given the choice between the two, we decided to try the vietnamese restaurant first. We started with the cha gio. It was a bit bland, not much flavor and not worth ordering. V ordered the hiu tieu and I ordered the mi xao tom. His soup came out quickly and he enjoyed it. Broth was fine. I reviewed the wrong order initially, so it had to be sent back to the kitchen and redone. When I did receive the noodles, it was extremely bland. I had to use soy sauce, pepper, salt, and sriacha to make it edible. Usually there’s a sort of sauce/gravy on top of this dish. There sauce seemed to be water. Or at least salted water. Service was below average, but it’s a new restaurant so they’re working out the kinks. Overall, I left unimpressed. Hopefully the crawfish side is better.
