At last! A restaurant that lives up to its name! The food at Yummy House IS yummy! A friend/co-worker took me to lunch here before I left my job last week. It was cold outside and Chinese food seemed appropriate, so she suggested Yummy House, as it’s one of her favorites. I ordered the Eggplant With Tofu, which is served with a choice of egg flower or hot and sour soup, an egg roll and choice of steamed or fried rice. Having arrived for our lunch date 20 minutes late due to a last-minute meeting with the boss, my lunch was ready when I got there and was kept warm in the kitchen. It didn’t affect the yumminess of the food! Service was prompt and efficient, restaurant was very clean, so I don’t understand other recent reviews that stated otherwise. We are moving out of the area, but if/when we visit, I would definitely consider stopping in here again!

This place is dirty. Had to walk through the kitchen to the restroom, which stunk of urine and had sticky floor, and then it had a sticky door hook that I had to use after washing my hands. So appetizing. Then I drank water out of a cup that looked 30 years-old and un-clean. When the shrimp entrée I ordered was brought to the table, it smelled really fishy, but tasted ok, as salty and oily as it was. Definitely wouldn’t return.

I ordered carry out, a variety of items. I was exceptionally pleased with all of my selections. My only complaint was/is the carry out containers that they use. I looked as if one plastic tops had melted due to the degree of heat of the food items inside. I am not a fan of plastic carry out containers. I would suggest that the owners use the traditional, old-school, folded cardboard carry out containers. They are functional. no toxic, look cool and are symbolic of the top notch traditional food they make at the Yummy House. I do plan on having a sit-down meal for their full serve experience. Loved what have tasted thus far.

Went in first time, just for appetizers. Got steamed and fried dumping and eggroll. It’s very tasty. Price is reasonable and service great. We are going back for entrees

Was so excited there was a place in Oak Park/Agoura with Xiao Long Bao! Think we may have ordered it wrong, though, because ours weren’t how we’ve had them before. there was barely any soup and they weren’t steamed, they were crispy. We were bummed but it was still good. Their lunch specials are great — SO much food for the price.

I wish I live nearby so I can eat their beef rolls everyday. It’s not heavily covered with sauce; I could taste the flavour of beef. Ordered a tomato lamb noodle and I was able to finish it due to its refreshing flavour and good noodles. They made everything from scratch.

Surpassed my expectations. Ready for midrange Chinese food, instead I discovered an elevation of staggering taste(I’m currently falling from the rafters). I’m now crazy about DANDANNOODLES, a great mingle of spices, and I’ve ordered it at other restaurants since — but none as good as here. I think I need to come back anytime I’m in the Agoura Hills area just for this. They are serious here about HOT&SPICY, SZECHUAN, BBQSEAFOOD, and some short selections of DUMPLINGS and BUN; plus, LAMB, PORK, CHICKENFEET, FROGLEGS for a few exotic dishes. But any CHICKEN or BEEFCURRY is so fantastic, it’s tongue-tastic. This modest sized café is homely with some nice fine touches. The owner is a simple man in appearance, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a wizard. He knows his dishes. #bustabutton

The service was very good – attentive and quick. We waited less than ten minutes for our food, which was great. We ordered Mongolian Beef, Sweet and Sour Pork, Kung Pao Chicken, Orange Chicken, and Fried Rice. The quality was just okay. The best dish was the Sweet and Sour Pork. It was actually quite good. However, the Kung Pao Chicken had a huge amount of veggies and peanuts compared to the chicken pieces, which were few and far between. The Mongolian Beef and Orange chicken were just okay. The sauces were not as sweet as most might expect for those dishes – they had a strange smokey flavor. For the price, it’s hard to complain. If it was more expensive, I’d have higher expectations. Lastly, it’s a smaller, quiet dining area, which makes it awkward to have a conversation with the person sitting across from you – everyone knows what you’re saying. Overall, decent for the price, but not my first pick for Chinese food in the area.

These people use MSG in their food. If you are health conscious do not eat here. They also do not use organic foods.

Definitely recommend their sweet and sour chicken, vegetable chow mein, egg rolls, and egg flower soup! Their service was excellent! Their prices are reasonable! And they’re very generous!

Delicious Szechuan home cooking. It can be really spicy so beware. Tender fish fillets with pickled cabbage was cooked perfectly. Spicy beef fillet appetizer was really spicy! Loved the flavored, roasted peanuts.

Delicious, authentic Chinese food. We got the house special ‘three flavored pan fried noodle’ and it was very delicious. Highly recommended. Also got the fried rice and sweet and sour chicken. I want to come back again but I am rarely in this area. The prices were very reasonable too. Come try it out if you haven’t already. You will be happy with the yummy food. Also, thought it was cool that the bill was all written in Chinese instead of English. I’ve never seen that before and it helps prove the authenticity even more.

I’ve been here at least 5 times or more. Every time it’s good. The flavors aren’t always exactly the same, but when the food isn’t mass produced and instead cooked to order, there’s a human touch that you can taste. So, I always order the Dan Dan Noodles. They have a numbing spice that’s so good and coming from friends who have actually visited China, «pretty close to exactly the same as the traditional dishes». I also like the orange chicken and the sechuan dumplings. This place is delicious, affordable and a great time. Come! You won’t regret it.

Went for a quick bite and was pretty happy with the grub. Had the cold cucumber dish and the Szechwan Dumplings… very authentic Chinese food. Then the onion pancake and the house special fragrance ribs… oh my goodness. I will make this a must stop all the time. Saves a trip to Chinatown.

Finally real authentic Chinese food. Deep fried intestines, spicy chicken feet, to name a few. You can’t get more authentic than that. So glad to see a place that’s willing to serve food true to it’s culture and none of the diluted western BS. The food is good and the waiter is very helpful. The price is VERY reasonable. This is definitely our new go-to Chinese place. Had the cold cucumber salad to start followed by pork fried in garlic sauce and spicy fish with tofu –awesome meal. Huge portions. Only bad comment is that the food was too greasy. Not sure if that was the style of food but they do need to tone that down. I would have given them 5 stars.

Recently, I was down in the greater LA area to see the amazing Shen Yun performance at the T.O. Civic Arts Plaza. To compliment this amazing cultural performance, I suggested that we get some true cultural Chinese food. Well, we weren’t going to drive to Monterey Park and I don’t have any friends with Chinese mother’s in VC, so where were we going to find this alleged authentic plate of Chinese? I performed a search, almost in vain, for XLB in Thousand Oaks on Unilocal.I grew up in this area and, to my knowledge, the region is devoid of most authentic Asian cuisine. So when I saw that Yummy House of Agoura had Beef Roll, Thousand Layer Pancake, Pork Intestine, Chicken Feet and Szechwan Dumpling on the menu, I nearly dropped my computer in shock! Upon entering Yummy House, I realized this place had all the makings of a gem. Husband running the front with a contagious smile, wife having a firm handle on the back of the house, no liquor license, humble interior design and we were the only Non-Chinese customers… INVENTURACOUNTY! As I scrolled the menu, I was inspired left and right by enticing options. Then, I saw a picture on the menu of the steamed mini buns [pictured above]. The image of them seemed familiar… «Excuse me, Sir.» I asked, «Are those Xiao Long Bao?» «Yes, these steamed mini buns are Xiao Long Bao, Yes.» WHAT!!! Okay, I don’t want to geek out or be an overly pretentious foodie, but you must understand something. I’ve always had a smug view of VC… That the food is about as fake and surface as the interactions of soccer moms. To learn that Xiao Long Bao [Authentic Shanghai-style soup dumplings] exist in the 805 is a big deal to me. Well…so it’s not technically the 805. For taxes and other official reasons, Agoura Hills is part of the 818. Yet any local or geographer will agree that it should be considered part of Ventura County. As such, I can happily assert that VC has it’s very own XLB spot! Things To Order: Szechwan Dumplings No good Szechwan or dumpling house is complete without a nice Szechwan Dumpling dish. At Yummy House, I would say that this is the best thing on the menu! While I didn’t eat my way through the entire menu, I did notice the dumplings on other tables [including a large order in a pyrex dish delivered to a young couple next to us]. The dumplings where juicy and fresh and the spicy Chengdu bath was quite delicious [even by my wife’s peanut-hating standards]. XLB I’m not going to say that these where the best XLB I’ve ever tried, but they were definitely passable. The meatball inside was large and there was a nice meat-to-soup ratio. I think they could have used another minute or two in the steamer for the sake of the meat and dumpling skin. But, remember, this is XLB in VC! Let’s cut them some slack! Things NOT To Order: Beef Roll I will reserve final judgement of this dish as it was my first time trying it. But, if this is typical of it’s taste, I must say I am not much of a fan. There was an unusual flavor that I couldn’t pin down and half of the beef was opaque, chewy fat. I’m not a hater, just haven’t acquired a full taste for it, I guess. American Chinese Options My parent’s ordered some dishes you might find at any Ol’ American Chinese Restaurant. Cashew Chicken, Mushu Chicken and other dishes which are not actually eaten in China are not the way to go at this place. As the clientele is mostly Chinese, it is clear that these dishes have been added as an afterthought to ensure that they don’t miss out on any of the local demographic. Stick with the Szechwan and Shanghai fare and you’ll be fine.

A new find in the Ventura County area! Good Chinese food is hard to come by in this area, so it was nice to wander in and get some to-go items. :) My wait was horrendously long, at over 35 – 40 minutes though. They were so busy during lunch that it felt as though they put my order in the back burner. I ordered the following items: (1) Rice cake with pork — you can probably skip ordering this item; i’ve had better tasting rice cake at din tai fun or ROC on sawtelle (2) Lamb & onion — this was a decent dish; but again, I’ve had better at some of the other chinese restaurants in SGV (3) Beef roll — this was good; you can’t really go wrong on beef roll right? :) (4) Braised Pork with preserved veggies — yes, delicious! but too salty, and the pork meat wasn’t that succulent. (5) Eggplant garlic — oily, but tasty (6) Spicy intestine — intestine was quite crunchy, spicy, and OK. Overall, only 3 out of the 6 dishes were at a quality and taste that would make me want to come back again. I gave it a good shot! :)

The spicy dry fried chicken was good a bit in the salty side. Very much comparable to the other Schzwan Place but with less red chile to pick through. The flavor of the Kung Pao chicken was excellent and liked that wasn’t a problem in requesting to leave out the water chesnuts. Service is slow. So be prepared to wait to get your servers attention. The size of the restaurant is on the small side, however it’s much bigger than the other Schzwan place. Food between the two are comparable.
