La Catedral

This franchise is all over Madrid, so we went in for a meal. It looks small from the outside but is huge. The food was ok, nothing special. The drinks were huge and also liked that there was wifi. It was filled with people and it was cozy. Would eat here again.

Talk about terrible customer service! I came here to get some breakfast and not only did we get a run around by where to sit but the pancakes came out super cold and soggy! When we complained a bald gentleman (who I shouldn’t even call gentleman since he was rude) tried to blame it on us, are you kidding me? This place looks nice but looks can be deceiving, la catedral is a perfect example. I definitely would not waste my money here again.

En este sitio hemos estado varias veces, pero siempre solo para tomar algo.
Hay tres plantas de restaurante, y la de baja es donde está el bar.
El sitio nos parece muy bonito, pero por su ubicación suele estar lleno de turistas. No te ponen tantas tapas pero si puedes una tostada no te vas a arrepentir.

Great, funky vibe with inventive food at fairly reasonable prices for the middle of Madrid. Our service was great although it did take just a bit for them to take our order. After that, all pretty wonderful.

Este sitio tan bonito de la Carrera de San Jerónimo podría resultar aún mejor si arreglaran un par de cosas. Hace unos años hicimos una cena de Navidad aquí aprovechando que nos quedaba cerca del trabajo y jamás volvimos a planteárnoslo; no sé si sería por el ajetreo propio de las fechas u otros factores, pero se nos trató con pasividad más que con otra cosa: los platos salían a destiempo, no contaban bien y había gente que casi se quedaba sin cenar… En fin, nada nuevo bajo el sol pero que hace que el recuerdo permanezca.
Esta mañana he ido con una amiga a tomar un café porque siempre vamos a los mismos sitios y eso es malo para la mente. He de decir que la presentación de su infusión era magnífica y que mi café estaba bueno, pero que si éramos los únicos en el local no debería ser por el buen tiempo de la calle, sino porque temo que el resto de la gente ya sabe que intercambian sus bienes y servicios por tus órganos, particularmente el riñón: 1,60 € por un café normal y casi 3 € por su agua sucia es más de lo que estoy dispuesto a pagar, más encima cuando el servicio ha vuelto a mostrarse justito.
La próxima vez iremos donde siempre, que es veneno pero huele a canela.

The place is very pretty, but the Food is horrible,…and the waitress was very rude. Only the decoración is nice.

Uno de esos descubrimientos en Madrid, trato de volver en cada visita. Con una localización privilegiada, hay que destacar la decoración, muy cuidada. Se divide en tres salones/​pisos que hay que visitar si se tiene ocasión, cada uno con su toque personal basado en Velazquez y Goya. El nivel de calle tiene una terraza interior al fondo.
El menú del día no es especialmente caro y tiene variedad, muy buen sabor. La única pega que pondría es el servicio, se nota un tanto saturado y con problemas por la falta de espacio entre mesas. Ver esas prisas constantes no contribuyen a disfrutar de la comida

We just had drinks here so I can’t comment on the food, but drink prices were pretty average for Madrid. The real reason to go here is to check out the ornate inside. It is setup in a cathedral style. Cool to see. Take a break from the heat and grab a drink here.

Por su decoración, calidad de productos y el resto yo le daría un 10. Lo más recomendable aquí es el menu: por, 11.50 o 12.90 y con productos de primerísima calidad. De primeros 5 ensaladas distintas y 3 platos calientes de temporada, 6 carnes y 6 pescados de segundo, pan, bebida, postre y/​O café incluido por ese precio y más de lo que se puede pedir.
Personalmente me encanta la decoración de los 3 salones, el superior y el inferior, Velazquez y Goya, decorados e inspirados en frescos de ambos pintores te encantarán pero, recomiendo el de Velazquez, porque podemos ver la agitación de la carrera San jerónimos desde sus ventanales.

We were starving, lost, and desperate for something easy that had something for all three of us. This place was perfect. They had a menu del dia which gave everyone a chance to fill their own needs. The items were just exotic enough that I didn’t feel like I had settled for some ‘safe’ dish I recognized. The menu included an appetizer, entrée, drink, and dessert or coffee. 11 euro! A steal. Service was prompt and they had an English translation that came in very handy. Highly recommended.

Ya se sabe con los restaurantes de las zonas muy turísticas como esta. La comida correcta, el precio también, pero el servicio poco profesional, te atosigan para que acabes pronto y tu sitio lo ocupe otro.

This is just a cool place to hang out in near the epicenter of Madrid. It is a close walk from everything and feels like a world away from home. (if your home is in the United States).
Food is fine, plus it is just a neat place to grab a drink by the bar. The architecture and design of the building makes the food, drinks, and company feel that much better.

Great Spanish food here. Had the baked pork tenderloin and cheese and ham croquette. Both very good. The only complaint I had was the carrots were shriveled, wilted and not very fresh. I’ve never seen carrots like these so I didn’t eat them. Flan was also good. Great value

This place was pretty good. Granted, it is basically the first restaurant I’ve tried while in Madrid, so my rating may change as we eat out more and have more to compare it to.
Pros:
You get a LOT of food for your money. For 15.8euros, you get a basket of bread, a pick from a long list of appetizers and entrees, plus dessert (and coffee I think, although we all decided not to get it since it was pretty late). I was so stuffed from the appetizer that I gave away half my entrée.
Cons:
The food was not mind blowing. I was especially expecting more from the paella. If not for that, I think it would have gotten 4 stars.
This is what I got:
appetizer: paella (a HUGE plate of food for an appetizer, probably in of itself more than I usually eat for two meals) — not the best that I’ve had. I was kind of expecting better.
entrée: duck magret — this was pretty good, but I think I was too stuffed from eating all the paella to really enjoy it.
dessert: caramel pudding. It looked and tasted like flan and was delicious. I ate the whole thing.
We also shared a pitcher of sangria (enough to fill 4 people’s glasses twice) for 10euros. Like the paella, not the best that I’ve had, but not bad.

No me gusta especialmente este restaurante. No he entrado nunca en un horario que sirvieran el menú del día, pero si he entrado a tomar raciones por la noche antes de salir. Me parece un bar típico de huertas, caro y ruidoso. No me resultó nada especial, tardaron mucho en traer una ración y no sé, no es mi tipo de restaurante, la verdad. Mucha decoración para ofrecer comida bastante normalita. Fui con una amiga a la que le gusta mucho, pero me parece que hay sitios mejores por la zona.

Conocí este restaurante hace poco cuando paseaba por lo más castizo de Madrid y paramos a comer en la Calle de l Pozo, donde se encuentra la parte trasera de este local. Nunca he entrado dentro, comimos en la terraza un menú del día.
Estuvimos muy a gusto porque a pesar de ser una tarde muy calurosa corría el fresquito porque daba la sombra en todo el callejón.
El servicio muy esmerado, todo muy rico, pero la única pega es que tardaron bastante en servirnos.

La Catedral es un impresionante restaurante que se encuentra en el centro de Madrid. Si pasas por delante de él estoy segura que te llamará la atención.
Tiene la entrada muy fácil porque queda el local completamente abierto a pie de calle mediante dos arcos y su decoración y la gente que lo llena siempre atrae a los transeúntes que por la Carrera de San Jerónimo caminan.
El establecimiento es muy grande, destaca la madera en su decoración, los azulejos que representan distintas obras de pintores muy conocidos y las fotografías que son de diferentes etapas de la historia de Madrid.
La planta de abajo está decorada con azulejos que representan obras de Goya y la segunda planta con obras de Velázquez.
Es un lugar muy completo, para lo bonito que es y lo bien rica que está su comida, no me parece nada caro. Por poco más de diez euros comes un menú del día que está muy bien en un restaurante con unos techos y una decoración muy cuidada. Además también tienen una carta llena de platos y un montón de raciones, aunque como en todos los sitios esto te sale bastante más caro.

On the day that we ventured into Sol to have a look around what our guidebook described as ‘Downtown Madrid’, this was pretty much the first place we saw after almost falling off the train with hunger. After assessing the menu and deciding that it looked OK, then assessing the interior and deciding that it looked really nice, we grabbed ourselves a table.
The unfortunate thing about Spain is that they don’t appear to have grasped that wheat intolerances exist in most places, so absolutely everything comes with bread regardless of whether it says so on the menu. Even my Spanish omelette.
All in all breakfast for two of us less than EUR10, which was the cheapest restaurant bill we had all holiday. It wasn’t enough to stuff our faces, but it was adequate and tasty. The waiter was also really funny and friendly. My breakfast came with coffee included, prompting him to joke that English should want ‘té’ with their breakfast instead of ‘café’. Then he seemed very proud that he’d taught me the Spanish for tea!
Incidentally, I did opt for the tea.
