i stopped by here in the middle of the afternoon since i was hungry from walking around this grand museum and my brain needed a break from the overflow of information about art history. the line for this café was almost as long as the ticket line for entering the museum! either the food was really good, really cheap, or everyone was just really hungry(and this was the only option for food and drink). i’m going to bet on the last reason, since there really was nothing else around, or immediately outside the museum to eat. you could walk across the street(the very wide street that requires you to walk the long way around) or walk several blocks away, or save time and spend more €€ at the museum café. although i didn’t actually buy anything(i’m a cheapskate and the prices were high, i preferred to wait to eat), i did browse the menu and offerings, and saw that they offered pretty much everything from pastries to baked goods to spanish tortilla to bocadillos(spanish sandwiches) to churros con chocolate to coffee and tea. good offerings and high prices are what you will find at a high traffic, touristy spot like the prado.

One of our most pleasant eating experiences in Madrid thanks to the Manager Alberto, what a pleasant man! He made us feel welcome from the beginning and had a great smile and sense of humor. The restaurant has paintings on the walls, very appropriate after visiting the Prado museum. 12 Euros for a 3 course lunch with different choices was a good deal. I had a soup, fish and dessert. Free wifi is a plus and then Mr. Alberto gave us a few good tips for places to go. GRACIAS!!!
