Da macht man alles richtig

¡A comer!

Yet another one of those gems right in the center of Madrid, just touching Puerta del Sol. Split the smoked cod, fried aubergine, and honey mustard pork between two people. One of those meals that hits the spot just right with very generous portions. Service was also snappy despite being packed and its locale.

This was WORST experience in Spain!!! We went there last wednsday 6 of January, My mom, wife and sister arrived first with my nephew at around 7:30pm. The place was almost empty and they gave us the worst table in the joint! l, next to the entrantece cramp betweent the bar and wall. Then they tried to order some cañas(beer) and they said the don’t serve beer to the table… Then they ask to be move the the bar and they didn’ t allowed it. When my brother in law and me arrived we wanted to eat paella and they said it wouldn’t be ready until 8:30. We told them it wouldn’t be any problem because will stay drinking and eating entrees until was ready. The guy still insisted that 8:30 was an approximate time… So clearly they had a problem with us and they didn’t wanted to serve us… We ended crossing the street to a great place with awesome service and delicious food… So don’t go there!!!

First time in Madrid and as an American tourists with extremely limited espanol our server Ramiro from Uruguay, could not have been better. We had a pitcher of sangria, tuna belly and tomatoes, fried goat cheese with blueberry sauce, mixed meat platter, garlic gambas. Everything was superior and Ramiro provided perfect service and advice. Mucho gracias Ramiro!

Great! The grilled prawns and the sangriaaaaaaa. To die for. –1 for the service though. But what more can you ask from young spaniards. Slow for seating us… No communication whatsoever… And didn’t acknowledge my «thank yous» but it was totally OK. Because I was too drunk over the sangria by the end of my meal to care anymore! Lol

I found this place after leaving the Mercado de San Miguel. It was a little bit hidden but it was the only one in the area that was full at that time(lunch time), a good sign. I thought it was so cheap, WOW. I still don’t understand. The service was nice, no rush. They also made an effort to speak English to us although we switched to Spanish after, it made things easier. For the first time in my life I tried baby eels(gulas): interesting. They were made with garlic, accompanied by gambas and the plate arrived to the table bubbling hot, literally. I tried two of their desserts: cheesecake with raspberry sauce and the apple pie, both good choices. As a starter I has the seafood paella as well. It was certainly not the best one I have had but nothing to regret either. Of all the dishes I tried my least favorite was the ‘merluza con patatas’. I did not considered it that tasty, some more seasoning maybe? Overall I tried six of their items, hence one that needs some improvement is no reason to ruin in any way the whole experience. I recommend it.

This was my last supper in Madrid. I was hoping to go to another place that served tapas, but it worked out because Alhambra was fantastic. Most people near us were locals who were eating larger meals. They did have English menus available. My friend and I split the fried goat cheese with blueberry sauce(fantastic!) and the potatoes with eggs and jamón(good). They brought out bread before the meal. I can’t remember if they charged for it as they sometimes do. The sangria was inexpensive as was my glass of Rosé. We ended up spending less than 20 Euro on the two dishes and three drinks.

There are two Restaurants with the same name next to each other and the menu design is extremely similar. Be Careful! The right one on the picture is the legitimate one. We went to the one on the left and the food was bad… Then, we found out the Resturant next to it has the same name… After sitting down and ordering the same dish(again) This time, the food was amazing ;) The #7 on the left of the Resturant is a scam! Purposely trying to confuse tourists! #“9″ is the legit one!

Adore this place. First night in Madrid and stumbled on this place based on good Unilocal reviews. We went here on the early side for dinner and there were a lot of tables available. We tried the patatas bravas and the seafood paella(7 euros). The first was good but there wasn’t anything outstanding about it. The paella was the best I’ve had in Spain. The seafood was incredibly fresh and the rice was packed with flavor. I did miss the crunchy rice at the bottom but it was delicious nonetheless.

I’m not really sure where to start here. It’s my first night in Madrid and I was looking on Unilocal to figure out where to eat. I found this place and thought wow, 4.5 stars with 100 reviews has got to be good. Before even looking further I ventured out super sure it was a safe bet. Anyway I get there and it’s beyond packed and loud. Server is awesome and gets me a table without delay, also provided an English menu. I ordered the beef strips and vegetables and from there it kinda just went downhill. It was like America meet Europe. There was very little spirit of the tapa culture as the portion they dished out was massive and borderline for an obese person. I got these raw-like and super chewy beef ribs. Not just one but 2 of them. It was like I was trying to do a steak eating contest. I took one bite and it was tasteless, extremely chewy, undercooked and that was it for me. My girlfriend was picking away at it, slicing the little edible parts like a laser gun trying to avoid all the fat and tendon. Next up was some haphazardly grilled vegetables. Someone just took a blowtorch and sprayed the vegetables and then proceeded to dabble it in oversized sea salt. Concentrated sea salt. I didn’t finish any of the meals and usually I’m good with that so… The only good thing was the fast service. Wouldn’t come back again. The portions are just out of proportions and if I wanted to eat that way, I’d just send myself to the USA and go to a dive bar there. The couple next to us also ordered this meat plate and I swear to god there were 4 sausages and 2 giant«steaks”/beef ribs they had to work through. Same tendony-fatty-overly bloody tough meat. It was 7.5 euros for the beef and it’d make you wonder if they’re just throwing it away at you. If you like big portions of things, non-tapa style and just bar food and you’re strapped for cash willing to eat whatever, then dine here — it’s also in a tourist concentrated area of Madrid so maybe that’s why it’s so …

What a way to start off Madrid. The train ride from Barcelona arrived at 11pm. Checked in to the hotel and dropped off luggage before heading out for food. Found Alhambra to be a buzzing place full of activity at midnight. I started out with a pint of beer to quench the thirst. First came the Iberico ham accompanied with tomatoe bread. I went straight for the ham sans bread. Next came the grilled shrimp. A nice charred flavor, different than the grilled shrimp I had at various places in Barcelona which was grilled with garlic and dressed with olive oil and parsley. Finally, the tripe stew came with a generous portion. The bread that came with the Iberico ham was used to dip the strew. Tender flavorful smoky tripe. I left no room for dessert and eyed another table ordering a grilled bisteca they was medium rare to perfection and cut into cubes. Looked tasty. I will not be surprised if I find my way here again before this trip ends. ordered the grill shrimp(nice and charred — prepped differently than the grilled shrimp in Barcelona), a ½ plate of Iberico Jam accompanied with tomato bread)

Epic plancha! Epic! Came here in wandering around the neighborhood. And I’m so glad I did! Fast paced, friendly servers! Great food. I came during siesta hours and I wasn’t too hungry. But the food is delish so I had to. As soon as you sit down, they bring you free tapas! It varies from your waiter. We had meat and cheeses. Table next to us got baked items. Sangria was only a few euros! And delish! I came in just for drinks but after looking at the menu, I had to have the food. And I’m glad I did. We opted for their house paella since it was a Sunday and apparently, they make a special version. It has crab, shellfish and all things fun. I liked it. But the plate that steal the show was the plancha! Aka the girlled item aka with massive prawns. Oh so tastyyyyyyy. Smoky, sweet, succulent langostinos/prawns! It was beautiful! Worth getting your hands dirty! It’s just delish! I also wanted to try a few other items but they weren’t ready or sold out. But if you make it here, try the drinks! Try the seafood! its pretty darn good.

Definitely the best restaurant around Sol Madrid in term of food quality and price! At 12:30am this place is full of people and a vibrant atmosphere! I love the traditional décor. We ordered ½ plate of Iberian ham, grilled shrimp and tripe stew. Hands down the best prawn and much cheaper than Barcelona. At 9 euros, you get a dozen of large prawn grilled to perfection. Such a plate would cost me 20 euros in Barcelona. Nice charred smokey flavor. The tripe stew is meaty and a rather heavy portion. It’s great to have that after bar hopping. The limited edition Ramon red wine is terrific and at 3,50 euro I can’t ask for more!!! Came here again to have the yummy grilled prawns and then paella. At 4:30pm for late lunch there was no wait although it is a full house. The paella tasted great with all the seafood, totally recommended. Here again at 9pm, had their awesome steak with frites and green pepper. It comes out in a sizzling pan perfectly medium rare. This is definitely a 2nd fave after the grilled prawns!

Grilled shrimp is amazing here! My husband went to town on the shrimp. Each shrimp is fat and juicy. We also tried the tripe stew which had sausages and tripe. It’s a very heavy dish meant to be eaten with bread. I don’t love tripe so I didn’t love the texture but the flavor is good but a little salty. I would definitely recommend going here if you like shrimp. Abuelas has shrimp too but if you are looking for a smokey/grilled flavor, go to Alhambra. For a more seasoned flavor head over to abuelas.

A poular tapas spot with cheap drinks. I had a vermut for 1.75 € and my wife sangria for 2 €. The free chorizo tapas is great. The albondigas are super flavourful and the sauce goes great on everything. We had the goat cheese with onions and berry reduction. Also quite tasty but it would have been better if the goat cheese was a creamier kind. You must try the shark! Our family of 4 left without finishing a couple dishes even though we tried to finish the big portions. Although the service was friendly we felt a little rushed and we only had one drink through our stay when we probably had two or three. Alas, 1 star off. Quality Spanish Meat(and of course other favorites too), this is about as good as it gets for the area. Cheap, delicious, authentic. Also it’s open late and the servers are friendly, as they’re going for the late night bar sort of feel here. Everything on the menu is fairly inexpensive but comes with huge portions. And this is after the complimentary ham appetizer that they start you off with. I ordered the skirt steak, which came with two sizeable pieces of steak, a bed of fries, and what seemed like a chimichurri sauce, for only 7.5 euro! More than filling, and the meal was so cheap that I actually ordered two glasses of wine so that I could pay with it for my card. This place has a very local bar sort of feel, and you can tell on the weekend nights people come here to relax and knock bar some wine, or after of wandering and partying. None of that holds it back from offering great food at a great value. My last meal in Madrid, and I only wish I stayed here longer so I could eat more. The mi

We decided to try this place because it was close to our hotel, relatively inexpensive and had decent reviews on here. I wish we hadn’t. The sangria was good and we were served a chicken wing appetizer that was sketchy. Our group had salad and paella which was filling, but unremarkable. I ordered a steak(medium) which was cold and red in places, did not have much meat around the bones and made me ill. Be very careful what you order here. My husband and I walked into this place on a Monday night. We read all the great reviews on Unilocal and were surprised when we showed up and nobody seemed to be inside. However as soon as we sat down the place started filling up. All the reviews were right the Gambos(shrimp) are seriously soooo good. Maybe the guys who had bad luck with the shrimp came in on an off day — it could be that ours were so good because there weren’t many people to cater to when we came in which was around 12:00AM. The Gambos were 9 € and worth all of it. Vermut on tap was around € 1.60 and sangria was around € 2. Sangria wasn’t the best but good for the price. Definitely recommend this place. Also our server was really nice! Service seems to be good even if they know you are a tourist, which is such a relief from almost everywhere else that treats you like s***. And our waiter recommended us a churros place afterwards although we were never able to find it…

So on our 6th day in Madrid and still on a roll! So we came here aiming to get paella, unfortunately I think we were a little late for that on a Friday night and it was out(walked in around 11. Anyhow we went with –Pulpo a la brasa — I love octopus done right and this was perfect. We also loved the potatoes and salad that came with it. For the price you cant beat the portion here. –Smoked cod — This was recommended by our waiter after he told us they were out of paella. This is a very lightly smoked cod, so it’s almost like sushi. It comes on top of a toast with some sort of fruit jelly and topped with a drizzle of honey and mustard. This dish was a awesome surprise. I also have to give extra points to the waiter for telling us 2 dishes was enough for us and stopping me from ordering a 3rd. Atmosphere here on a Friday is fun an lively, very loud in a good way. It’s packed but our food came out fast and waiters were on the ball. For being in a touristy area this place is still awesome.

Hier bleibt eigentlich kein Wunsch an Tapas offen.
