Reading the earlier reviews, I thought I was reading about a different restaurant. Jean Claude was recommended to us by locals for our one week stay in Copenhagen. The setting itself is delightful with unmatched chairs and a cozy atmosphere. Our hopes for similar experience on the food however were not realized. Both of us ordered moules frites, and then split a Caesar salad. The moules and frites portions were ample. But both our moules were over cooked and had several unopened shells, which of course we didn’t eat. The sauce was tasty, sort of an Asian influenced by lemon grass, but there was very little of it. We probably discarded 25% of the moules as they were either not opened or were so over cooked as to be inedible. The Caesar salad was just ok. Way too many croutons and dressing, the latter of which appeared to be just mayonnaise with little else All in all meh food experience, which for 175DK at lunch we should expect better. So four plus stars for the atmosphere. Two for the food.

Yep, it doesn’t get much better than this-true for Jean-Claude. I was recommended this restaurant by a friend of mine and visited this french bistro a few weeks ago and I knew, even though, waiting 2 weeks, the impression would last, cause this is not an experience I would forget in the near future. The restaurant has a romantic vibe with un-coordinated tables/chairs and porcelain-not by mistake, but to create a home-feeling. The waiter arrives with a blackboard with today’s specialities on(beside the set a la carte menu). For starters we had the chevre salad, the mushroom toast and the moules marnière. The mussels were absolutely divine as were the other starters. We drank a tjeck beer that I can’t remember the name of but it started with a G… For main course we had the veal and the fish(pike perch), both today’s specialities and we were thrilled. Again-all of us hit jackpot! Amazing chef to be able to arrange 3 perfect veal pieces-all perfectly medium! The waiters were very attentative and friendly! To end our stay at Jean-Claude we got the crème brulèe and again, we were thrown off! For a place to succeed with all dishes we had, with service and with ambiance is extremely rare, and the tab was most likeable as well. I look forward to my next visit at Jean-Claude as this place is now one of my favourites in Copenhagen.
