I seriously question why this place is so popular. I’ve been to both the Twelve Cupcakes outlets in Millenia Walk and Ion, and their cupcakes are just not right… their batter is wayyyyy too dry. If you want good quality cupcakes, try the ones at Marmalade Pantry and also I WANNA at Far East. They both offer innovative flavors and the cupcakes are actually moist and fluffy. I WANNA has a strawberry flavor with fresh strawberries mixed into the batter so there’s some real strawberry in every bite.

I had one of those mad red velvet cupcake cravings after watching Cupcake Girls on cable tv. So I went on a hunt for it and I sniffed out Twelve Cupcakes. The array of cupcakes behind the clear glass is so so alluring, it’s hard to pick which ones to bring home, you almost want one of each. I ordered a couple of red velvet, asked for some recommendations and I got the peanut butter chocolate and decided to be adventurous and tried one of their specials — the longan cupcake. While I very much enjoyed the moist and buttery red velvet, what was surprising was how much I really enjoyed longan cupcake! A very sweet and delightful surprise in the centre of the cupcake in the form of a longan. Very unique and bold. Definitely would think of getting birthday cupcakes here next time, since they’re not just pretty but taste darn good!

Fluffy cupcakes, intriguing flavours and to top it all, they look good! At $ 3 a cupcake, I expect nothing less, and I was not disappointed. Of course, it is not comparable to Australia’s cupcake joint«Little Cupcakes» — but as far as Singapore goes, it is probably one of the best I’ve tasted. I liked the classic flavours such as Red Velvet as well as Salted Caramel(mixed with something). If you want an alternative to your typical round/singular birthday cakes, then come here. They do letterings in icings if you book in advance.

Twelve Cupcakes most recently popped up in local headlines thanks to the fiasco involving celebrity owners Daniel Ong and his wife Jamie and rights to displaying some articles. So it was mostly due to this that I decided to check out their store. The store front is adorable, with clean and minimalistic décor with the logo in browns and pinks. They sell only cupcakes to-go, so there isn’t any clutter of seating in the store at all. The cupcakes are made fresh during the day, and in limited quantity, so if it isn’t on display, there isn’t any left ‘in the back’ either. Their display is super appealing though, with rows and rows of cupcakes in a large glass display. But it’s the cup cake icing that takes the cake, pun very much intended. Their Red Velvet is one of my favourites, plus I love how the cake itself is a deep red, with white cream and a tiny red heart to top it off — adorable! Their cakes are mostly decorated with aesthetics mind you — so don’t be surprised if taking a bite means having whip cream practically up your nose. And, it is a little on the pricey side given their slightly smaller than average size. But what they lack in cake, they make up in topping!

The Novena outlet was the first one to open, and boy was I happy to be able to get these lovely cupcakes so close to my old office! The cupcakes are quite sizeable, and as yummy as they look. I can never really decide what I want, so I always end up getting 6 of them to share and care. They’re not the cheapest though — $ 3 per cupcake and $ 17 for 6, and there are ‘premium’ cupcakes that cost a little more… I usually just end up getting everything chocolate though — chocolate chocolate is my favourite one, though they do a mean red velvet as well, with a cute red heart on it. Look out for the rotating special flavours though like Lychee Martini and Nutella… yum!
