Rice is undercooked so hard to chew. Sweet and sour fish cutlets are over fried so hard to bite. Waiters are shorthanded and are too busy to smile and greet and even speak. One more thing. Remember to check your serviettes to make sure they new. Mine has someone scribbled on it underneath and didn’t realise until I used it to wipe my lips.

Reasonable priced lunch set. $ 8.90 that consists of garlic rice w/shredded chicken. Dessert and 4 mini spring rolls. Despite what other reviewer said, this place still fills in when I needed some Thai food. Near my house too.

Crunched for time, we found ourselves in Thai Express for the sole reason that it’s 15 minutes away from our home in Singapore. The welcome was warm, the space looked trendy and the menu looked plentiful. I guess I didn’t read the fine print — Looks are deceptive. We settled on the thai mango salad, a dish that I firmly believe cannot be done wrong. But looks like Thai Express was out to prove me wrong today. It was un-uniformly cut mango strips, doused in a sticky sweet syrup, with nary a speck of a red chilli, and the peanut topping was completely lacking any crunch. To follow it up, we tried the taro root stir fry with cashews. While the taro was alright, and the cashews were a good combination, it was once again submerged in a sweet sauce that tasted suspiciously like the one in the mango salad. Is this your Secret Sauce, Thai Express? Given as no water was served, we got the pineapple soda with coconut ice cream. The description made it sound more interesting that it was. it was simply a sad scoop of grainy coconut ice cream on some industrial tasting soda. We also had the coconut water. The coconut water packed some great flavour but the flesh was certainly not tender. I hacked at it a couple dozen times and gave up given how little I was able to carve out. I’ve had some pretty amazing Thai meals in my life and I think I am qualified enough to say that this was not an authentic experience. To add to it, service was pretty slow. We also ordered a Thai Iced tea in the middle of our meal, which never made it to our table by the time we settled the check. As my better half so succintly put it, «Neither Thai nor Express».

Have not been to Thai Express for some time. During my visit earlier today, I realise that they now do not serve water with meals. We thus had to order drinks which easily added an extra $ 20 to the bill. To be honest, I like the food there and use to go quite regularly. But my recent meal with my family of four cost me close to $ 100. Definitely not worth the money. Will very likely not go there again.
