Don’t think I’m willing to part with any ’ STARS ’ for the Thai Express Rest.

I come here very frequently for meals and grocery as it is in walking distance. Having been a very frequent visitor for the past few years, i have seen shops moving in and out. It is sad to see good shops going, because of the lack of human traffic. The place is only packed when there is a performance at indoor stadium, or when some organisation is handing out pre-race packs(e.g. Marathons) at the podium. Perhaps the landlord should help lower the rentals to help the shops survive till the sports hub is completed. There is 1hr free parking during office hours, but car park tends to be full during meal times or when there is a performance. Alternate car park is the open car park surrounding it, or the multistory car park at Kallang theater next to it.

Kallang Leisure Park is a great place to head to for Movies on weekends if you don’t have a booking. the place is very accessible now, unlike in the past, thanks to the Stadium MRT station. There is a wide range of entertainment and sporting facilities here with the ice skating rink, bowling alley and cinema. It also works as a good place to get essentials as they have a Cold Storage, fast food and food court.

Kallang Leisure Park is actually a great place for dates. It’s accessible(Stadium MRT station on the Circle Line, by the way Stadium station is STATE-OF-THE-ART can), you don’t need umbrellas because they’ve got sheltered walkways, and it’s quiet. It’s also houses everything you need for a date — a movie theatre, food, flowers(a bit old-fashioned I know) and chocolates. The anchor tenant of course, is the Kallang Ice World. The compound matches world competition standards and from what I hear from skaters, it’s the best skating rink in Singapore. There are quite a lot of nice desserts and ice cream shops here, probably catering to the people who’re on their way to the Indoor Stadium for a performance. There are also old-school gifts and stationery shops where you can find bookshop worthy items. The pace at Kallang Leisure Park moves slower, even their travellator to the basement seems to be more leisurely than usual.

I come here from time to time for lunch because it’s really near my office and it just isn’t very crowded on weekdays. It’s has some more unusual entertainment options with a bowling alley and ice skating rink. It’s convenient(Stadium MRT/Circle Line) and has the essentials like Cold Storage and a cinema(Filmgarde), and a whole bunch of cheaper food places that don’t get insanely packed, from fast food(BK, Subway) to slightly nicer places like NYDC and Thai Express. The Koufu food court for me is just kinda boring though — it’s small and somehow the food stalls always change, perhaps traffic just isn’t enough to sustain business, but I always end up walking around for a long time there trying to decide what to eat as nothing really is much of a standout. The best thing though? Free first hour parking in the afternoons on weekdays!
