Tried the scallop and cheese croquettes Both were decently nice, but nothing to rave about, i guess I expected more after the hype? Will try the corn one next and see how that fairs Seems to be pretty popular though Tried the salmon and seared salmon kaisedon bowl that my friends were raving about. It was good but nothing mind blowing as well. Although I suppose at $ 16 it’s pretty value for money

Teppei Syokudo is a sister outlet of the much raved teppei restaurant in tanjong pagar where customers patiently wait for a chance to reserve a dinner spot 3 months in advance. This place specializes in takeaway chirashi. For approx $ 16 and up, you get a generous portion of raw fish(and rice). The chirashi is prepared on the spot and the fish is tossed in a marinade. Personally, I found the chef a little too heavy handed on the marinade so it was on the salty side for me, but I wouldn’t make too much of a fuss over it given that it’s take away and a saucer of soy sauce on the side isn’t exactly the most convenient option. I’ll most likely be back. The lines are apparently typically snaking long but I went there at around 845pm and there wasn’t a wait.

I was ecstatic to find out that this place was related to the Teppei of hour-long lunch queues and reservations-3-months-ahead for dinner fame. I’ve been to the original Teppei once for lunch, and the bara chiraishi don there struck a chord with me. I’ve been craving for those thick chunks of tuna and salmon marinated in sauce for the past year. Alas, I’ve no time to queue during lunch, and dinner is too much of a hassle. So imagine the happiness when I saw that familiar kaisendon here! It’s a takeaway counter that does brisk business and their kaisendon is the clear best-seller(more than half of the people in the 10+ people queue had ordered that). Same old large bowl covered with huge chunks of marinated(in shoyu) tuna, salmon, and white fish. It’s prepared on the spot, packed in plastic bowls to go. Ate it an hour later, at home, and it was still wonderful, though I would have preferred more sauce in the rice. The large chunks of fish were fresh and delicious. Really really value-for-money at just $ 16. They also have an assortment of croquettes(I’ve tried the potato and corn ones, both were good) and a sashimi birthday cake(looked like a chunk of fish in a shape of a cake, made to order) if you’re looking for a unique birthday centrepiece.

I was just walking by running errands and looking for breakfast… I recognized the 2 men I had earlier rode on the elevator with and they were working around this new food outlet at the Takashimaya Food Hall. Noting the obvious buzz around the place, I decided to try it out. Yum!!! I am so glad I did! Chirashidon for breakfast?! Why the heck not?! I think I bought the first one of the day and the big smile I got from the chef made it all the more better! Generous portions of salmon, tuna, ikura — beautifully presented and wonderfully seasoned. I only realised afterwards that this was the Teppei I had heard so much about & was meaning to try out! Hooray!
