I had the tonkatsu curry here and it was very satisfying. The curry was not very adventurous(I like a little more spice and heat in mine) but it was well-made. The tonkatsu was as good as it gets: crispy outside, tender and juicy inside. I went with the salad, and it was simple but fresh. And did I mention satisfying? Almost too much food, which is rare at a Japanese restaurant.

I eat here at least once a week. It seems to be an unusually good example of reasonably priced good food in Singapore that is not at a Hawker Center. It’s awesome.

I love the katsu sandwiches from Romankan Yokohama. The tonkatsu inside is a lovely golden brown with crisp lettuce peeking out from under the fluffy white bread slices. It is an appetizing quick lunch, and cheap too. Their most famous dish perhaps, apart from the katsu sandwich, is their katsudon. While people commonly go to places like Ginza Bairin or Tonkichi for tonkatsu, I very much prefer the tonkatsu here which has been consistently tasty and good value for money at $ 13 and a huge portion. Located in the basement of Ngee Ann City, aka Takashimaya, where all the food stalls are, I am quite glad to find this shop with their friendly staff is still around after so many years and numerous changes to the area. The only problem is cash payment only.
