A rainy Saturday is a perfect day for brunch. We had the Beer-battered Fish & Chips, Pesto Pasta and their revered Truffle Fries! Food — The size of the fish in the Fish & Chips was more than a little disappointing but the beer mayo dip was heavenly! It comes with sweet potato fries which I personally believe are an abomination. Would have been nice if they had an option to have it with regular fries. My husband mentioned that the Pesto Pasta didn’t have enough basil and had too many pine nuts(trust him, he’s a pasta enthusiast). The Truffle Fries were pretty good, but not mind-blowing, sadly. Service — Good customer service. Staff removed used cutlery and plates promptly and were very friendly. A+! Atmosphere — It has a rustic interior with seats aplenty. Be mindful that the seats are close together so you can’t help overhearing the incessant babblings of others around you. Sipping on my lemonade with Beyoncé playing in the background was a good beginning to my weekend.

I go to sprmrkt once every few weeks as it’s close to my office. My first visit there I had pasta and juice and I really liked it. The menu is regularly refreshed with light dining items like pasta, salad, croissants. Sometimes they have fusion type pasta like I once tried the pasta with egg yolk sauce. They also have a few types of cakes on offer every day, the strawberry shortcake is delicious but i haven’t seen it recently so I am still waiting for my lucky day(you never know what they are serving every day). My other favorite item is their bread pudding(I usu get it for breakfast so not sure if it’s available all day), you can ask them to heat it for you and they serve it with vanilla sauce which is heavenly. The space is bright and airy and is really relaxing, I can imagine working there with a cup of coffee. There is a corner with some grocery items and kitchen utensils for sale(tend to be overpriced based on my observation) — I noticed this bacon vodka which I look forward to trying some day. To be fair, the food is decent but there is really nothing to wow about, but I guess this is a place that grows on you and I just enjoy sitting there and enjoying the afternoon sun — alone or with friends. Somehow it really feels like your own living room and I think that’s what gets me to return time and time again.

3.5 stars to be exact.(I have listed more likes than dislikes, but there is a knack that makes me hesitant of saying ‘Yay! I’m a fan.’) When I worked near SPRMRKT, it was my safety-of-haven, whenever I couldn’t think of anything to eat. It’s quite impressive that they are able to creatively(sometimes a bit too much creatively) come up with menus and most of the items are above-par. I’ve had countless meals here, and I would highlight a few items. Likes: 1) Fresh & quality ingredients 2) Delicious dessert items — bread pudding, flourless chocolate cake, cheese cake, etc.(but rum & cherry mille feuille is such a no-no. I was quite surprised by this unexpected. thing) 3) Generally good food items — my favorites are: Granola + Yogurt, Pumpkin Mac&Cheese, 4) Coffees are good.(la marzocco coffee machine is used) 5) Holistic approach to food –as a life style. They hold various items from brands that are in-line with their emphasis on quality lifestyle of well-done things. Dislikes: 1) Price is NOT friendly. I may be biased as I come from Bay Area where good quality & amazing food was given for such good value, but still. Even after living a year here, and having been to many many restaurants, SPRMRKT items are pricy for what they offer. 2) Food takes forever. It seems like a good idea to get the process fixed up so that people don’t have to wait for 15+ minutes, when you take it out. Overall, despite being pricy, I wouldn’t debate the quality of the food.

It just might have the best sandwich in SG with their pulled pork burger. The sous vide egg on top is a great accent. I also highly recommend the baked eggs. It gets crowded on the weekends and many people call ahead for a reservation and don’t show up, which creates a salty customer experience. I guess that is usually in SG though.

I want to love the place and food but it is really just A-OK, or at best maybe a bit better than that. Somehow it just does not excite the palate. The food is quite typical of what you will get at other places though the food tastes a bit fresher. Price wise it is also similar to other cafes in the area. You can get soup, salad, sandwiches and light simple mains during lunch. The menu changes everyday so check their website to see what they have for that day. The place is a bit small with a few tables outside too. Part of the space is filled with things you can buy for the kitchen/home. The décor is of the clean look, a bit like IKEA to me but it makes for a nice casual eatery. Nothing fancy. I don’t mind dining here if I am in the area and there is nothing else available.

I’ve read mixed reviews of this place but decided to just go ahead and try it since i was within the vicinity after my trying-to-kill-myself gym session on Saturday. First of all, this place has very limited seating areas. There are just about 5 tables in the main dining area, another small communal area near to the ordering counter and a two more high tablea just outside the walkway of the café. Food wise, they offer all-day breakfast as well as weekly specials. I was famished when I visit, so I head straight to the counter and ordered myself the first item listed on the menu — scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and mocha to go with it. Food wise, it was alright. The portion’s decent for the price you pay. The scrambled eggs were rather bland but that’s ok, less salt is better than too salty and the generous portion of smoked salmon were accompanied by 3 pieces of lightly toasted bread(spread with butter, no less) and greens. Besides food, the café do sells very old school and hipster cookery like enamel cups, plates and bowls, locally made artisanal spreads as well as imported chocolates with percentage of cocoa as high as my cholesterol level. One thing that impresses me the most is the variety of cider /beer they have. I am definitely coming back for dinner someday to try out their mains and check out the ciders available. Hope it won’t disappoint. Overall, I paid $ 21 for one main and one coffee. The lady at the counter taking the order could improve on her customer service etiquette(nothing serious, just lack of values in the friendliness department) but the service staffs on the floor are friendly and attentive. p/s: just kidding about the high cholesterol. my cholesterol levels are on point from my last medical check but the chocolates sure look good!

This place gets better and better. With the new expanded menu it’s seriously in danger of limiting my further exploration of the neighbourhood. I had lunch here yesterday and again today — probably even tomorrow.(I have to see the new menu introduced this week — a different menu every day.)

Great café. Fresh salads, awesome brunch, tasty desserts. They also carry a selection of craft beers and interesting home goods. I’ve never been disappointed with a meal here.

We visited for a weekday breakfast. Parking is tough if you plan to arrive any later than 8am(when it opens). They offered a couple of breakfast sets which were cheaper and value for money. For $ 11 I got scrambled eggs, sauteed mushrooms, 2 slices of brioche toast, some cherry tomatoes(wish they had been roasted tomatoes!) and a cup of tea. The food was good! Absolutely no complaints there, and the brioche was particularly nice. My friends had bangers and mash(or sausage and mash as it is on the menu — $ 16) and gave it the thumbs up. My only complaints about the place are minor: — I second what a previous reviewer said about the door! It’s a pretty door except most people don’t close it after they enter, which is super annoying if you are seated at a table by the door. — The toast wasn’t served with any butter or jam or anything(had to ask). — The tea was brewed with a teabag in a cup(which is fine) — however, no dish was provided to remove the large teabag after steeping. Sugar is self-serve but no milk was offered(had to ask). I’m not trying to be finicky but in a café like this and at these prices, I would think a bit more attention to detail would be nice, please.

This is one of those rare new food joint that warrants repeated visits. Never had a problem with the service(fortunately) and always enjoyed the brunch items and coffee. I’ve always only been there on Saturdays so have not tried their weekday menu. Love their pancakes!

SPRMKRT is a great little brunch /lunch /dinner spot in an area swarming with overpriced, over designed, Western restaurants. The prices are reasonable, about what I would expect to pay in the States for the same kind of food — and considering I am getting it in Singapore I will pay the extra few bucks. The breakfast is awesome if you’re looking for a true-blue pancakes and bacon sort of deal. The juice is also quite nice and the ladies behind the counter know what they’re doing with coffee. I’ve gotten several dishes here and each one has been quite spot on in terms of its western counter-parts. All too often do places(especially in Singapore) tout themselves as being Western food, then charge $ 35 for a hamburger, and it’s a total sham. SPRMKRT makes an awesome BBQ chicken sandwich and the sides are right on the money and plentiful. The pastries are also really impressive. They’re all made in house by a pastry chef that comes in in the morning. Beer and cider selection is also really good with a nice selection from U.S., Britain, Germany and Japan. No Hoegarden and Stella Artois mass Euro-lager here — just true craft beers. The service here is also astounding to me. The ladies behind the counter all had memorized my name after the first time I came in. Every time thereafter they greeted me by name, asked how I was doing, and made recommendations for things I might like. I couldn’t believe it. I also got to meet the owner one night and she was a super nice young Sinaporean woman just trying to get her restaurant up and going. If you’re in the Amoy area and want a good western meal, pop in here. Atmosphere is nice and they do it right. Nice to have a slice of home from time to time.

3.5 stars [Food] — As other Unilocalers have mentioned, the menu changes daily. —(Curly fries): Yum but overpriced —(Pork sausage with mash): Pretty good. Mashed potato was really smooth. —(Bread pudding): OK, a little dry in my opinion. And the cream is way too thick, boo. —(Latte): Like ! [Service] — I did not encountered any nasty attitude like other Unilocalers had. — The girls working behind the counter were very friendly. [Ambience] — Décor is pretty cool. A decent café to hang out with your buddies/girlfriends. My only complaint is the door. It does not close on its own. It gets annoying especially if you sit close to the entrance and patrons do not close the door behind them. ITo sum up, food is good but I would not go out of my way to come here. However, I would recommend coming here if you are around this area.

Service with an attitude! Woo… I’m not sure what hood Spr. Mkrt came from, but that ain’t how it should be done in the service industry! Food is quite good if we ignore the attitude. The menu changes every day and I generally come for the salads as they’re quite fresh. I also enjoy the water – they add fresh herbs and lemon slices! Gives the décor an extra flair if you know what I mean! SUM: Check the daily menu before coming.

I love the décor, its minimalism and starckness, but through it all, it has touches of warmth with their vintage enamelware, glassware and brushes are cute too. Their makeshift painted chalkboard is smart, very smart and in an designers pov(not that i am) is an innovative one. The menu changes daily as I am told so today I had their blackened fish and chips. My partner plainly hated it because it didn’t look like the usual fish and chips. It was a firm fleshed fish covered in a black tempura batter. Batter was tasty but fish wasn’t seasoned): chips were generic, just had a dash of pimenton to make it look perdy. My man had the chicken and hummus wrap, filling and good… had no sign of hummus mostly guacamole instead… Overall the location and concept is good. Staff are great, they know their regulars like they’re all best buddies. It’s lacking a little warmth in my opinion. I’ll come back if i’m in the area… just to buy some enamelware.

I was hoping to try Ocean Fish Head curry for lunch but the queue was ridiculous. How ridiculous? So ridiculous it deserves it’s own review ridiculous. So anyways the best friend LOVES the pancakes and brunch from Spr. Mkrt, and though it was a weekday, this was a work day lunch, I figured, ah why not. The colleague I was with said she didn’t mind the food there either. The space is nice. Casual. Clean. Airy. It’s relaxed and it feels like there’re just really few chairs/tables because… well there are. It’s not a big place, but they also don’t try to overcrowd the space. Which is good. Food wise? Pricey. $ 14 for an Eggs Benedict? That’s pricey. I mean, no doubt, it was an excellent Eggs Benedict. The Hollandaise sauce was tart without being mouth-wrinklingly sour, the English muffin was crisp and toasted, the poached eggs… well the poached eggs were more like half-boiled eggs, like you’d get with Kaya toast, but they went well regardless. In fact, the more I think about it, the more sure I am that those weren’t poached. The whites had that ‘cooked in the shell’ type of consistency. Still. It was a good plate of EB. My colleague ordered the breakfast croissant with chicken salad and scrambled eggs on the side. The croissant with chicken salad was delicious! The chicken salad was actually sliced chicken tossed in… well tossed in something, as opposed to the minced/shredded chicken salad you’d expect. The scrambled eggs were well seasoned, buttery and tasty… but just a touch overcooked. Well. Maybe a bit more than a touch. A minute or two overcooked, I’d say, based on personal experience. Still, despite the missteps, the food was definitely enjoyable, and I’d be happy to go back if I was in the area. The price though does mean that I’d deliberately avoid the area unless I had a specific craving, or I was feeling flushed with cash.

I really enjoy this space for it has the friendliest staffs. Everyone is so joyful even when they get busy or are tired. They work like a big family looking out for one another. Coffee/tea is from Smitten Coffee & Tea. It’s consistent. Their baked goods are homemade. I particularly enjoy the huge blueberry muffin, tarts, cookies but ultimately, the hummingbird cake is a winner. It stole my heart away one quiet afternoon. The food is always fresh and unique as it gets. Chicken is always fresh, sandwiches are creative and salads are nicely portioned. The breakfast menu is extensive as well. Homemade granola makes a great take away snack! Joseph has done a great job rotating the menu and keeping fresh produce in mind. Sue makes sure the art work on the wall appeals to the public. She has done a lovely work curating the space. Lunch food usually runs out around 2.30÷3, but there is always an excuse for cakes and coffee to head down!

Another of my lunch faves deserves a Unilocal review, although I’m hesitant to continue sharing this little gem of a shop lest my lunch wait takes even longer. Given I’m a creature of habit, and Spr. Mkt is just a few steps away from my office, I end up at this place at least 2 – 3 times a week. I of course justify this by the fact that they rotate their menu for each day of the week(I’m a big fan of Tu, W, and F, thanksverymuch). Still, it’s easy to win over my affections… simple recipe to do so: — conveniently located(for me, screw the rest of you: p) — tasty food(I have standards!) — friendly staff(in Singapore, this counts more than elsewhere) Thankfully Spr. Mkt is able to win on all 3 fronts. Ok, maybe the wait times are cause for complain… but somehow always willing to overlook this given how delicious the food is… Also, I’m too lazy to find a new favorite.

My only complaint about this place is that I wish they would diversify their weekend brunch menu. Otherwise, I’ve been extraordinarily pleased with them. The risotto is fantastic, their granola is house made and delicious. I like the pancakes, sandwiches, desserts, sausage & mash, tomato toast. The espresso drinks are pretty good. What really won me over though was their turkey. They sold roast turkeys with stuffing for the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday. The turkey was moist and flavorful, and the wild rice stuffing was delicious. There were no leftovers! My guests were all so impressed with it!

Whether you come here for the bistro or to shop for groceries, there’s always something to new to discover at SPR.MRKT. Personally, I enjoy coming here to browse over the abundant lifestyle products and to check out the cooking and crockery section as I love to cook. The grocery is also pretty well stocked, carrying a ton of stuff that you won’t find anywhere else in your standard supermarkets. I usually end up grabbing a bite at the bistro since its convenient and have still have a long way to go before I try everything on the menu. But so far, I can count on the always satisfying Emmenthal Cheese & Ham croissant for a bite.

A bistro cum gourmet grocer that I decided to visit after work one day, SPR. MRKT is one place that I find is relaxing and great to chill out in. With a plethora of lifestyle products like utensils and other cooking needs to amble over or before a meal, it’s like a Dean & Deluca’s, just albeit more unknown. The bistro on the other hand, serves up decent Western fare like a very satisfying Emmenthal Cheese & Ham croissant. The last time I was there, they were serving up a very appetizing weekly special of Herb-Crusted Fish & Chips. A pity I already had dinner or I’d definitely given it a try.
