The food is good, greasy fried fish and chips. Tasty and served with sauce, salt and vinegar, so seems nicely authentic. The price seems very high. I’m sure the argument is that it is high quality fish, but fish and chips isn’t high quality preparation, it is still being battered and fried. about $ 20 for a fish and chips lunch seems like too much. The service is a bit slow, especially when I was the only active order in the kitchen.

Nice fish, but a bit pricey. The atmosphere and setup could use some work.

Service Found the service average. My family and I were the only ones in the shop and the staff did not«engage» us during the order process. It was efficient but cold. Quality Quality of the food was below average. The fish was bland and very greasy. It maybe deliberate, but I like tartar sauce and having paid $ 18 for my fish and chip(and $ 2.50 for a can of coke), I found it insulting to be asked to pay $ 0.20 for a packet of tartar sauce. Value In terms of food quantity, I felt that they were generous. Except for the tartar sauce complaint, I think the pricing is fair although slightly on the high side.

Nothing really spectacular but they do the basics quite well. A very simple, no-frills experience. If you really can’t decide on what to eat around the area, there are better things to try though. Like the nasi lemak a few stalls down

This is a review based on two lunch experiences at Smith’s Authentic British Fish and Chips. First, there is nothing fancy about this place. It is basic. It is functional. It is everything a fish n chips place should be and nothing that you do not expect it to be. You don’t expect fancy and you do not get it here. It is, however, clean and neat. Each time, I’ve had the cod fish n chips. Each time, they were pretty good. The second time, they were great. The first time I thought they could have stayed in the fryer for another 30 seconds to a minute longer and the layer between the breading and the fish would have been a little less mushy. But these are good fish ‘n chips. I like the chips also. I add a side of beans to my order. They are also basic but good. Pic of my colleague’s Guinness Meat Pie You place your order at the counter. Then, they let you know when your food is ready. The food comes out relatively quick. The staff is friendly. If one has a hankerin’ for some pretty traditional fish ‘n chips, this place will do the trick. It makes for a fast, filling, and tasty lunch.

Over-priced fish and chips joint that doesn’t even carry Tabasco sauce. Not sure how others each them(malted vinegar doesn’t really cut it for me and neither does tartar), but how can you have a fish and chips place without some good hot sauce. And from the price-value relationship, I think $ 20 is little too much for what you get. I can get stuff that’s a lot yummier and and fresher in Seattle(sorry about comparing this place to Seattle) for half the price. Worth trying but don’t blame me if this place doesn’t meet up to your expectation.

I know I’ve been psyched to come here for fish and chips till the expectations went abit too high for what I eventually tasted. I appreciate the choice of fishes and the sides. It’s as british as you can imagine, complete with pickles and mushy peas. Thing is, the batter didn’t satisfy even if it might be authentic. It was tasteless and too thick for my liking. The chips were chunky and slightly oily and tasteless. Perhaps the choice of sauces are meant for the purpose of seasoning to your own liking, but no, I didn’t care much for them. I stuck to malt vinegar and salt but it was tough to enjoy a tasteless piece of fish which could have been lightly seasoned, or coated in a seasoned batter. Lunch is reasonably priced, and maybe a more affordable first time attempt to see if their fish and chips is your thing.

Touted as an «Authentic British Fish and Chips» joint, I wish I could say that I liked this place better. Sure, they provide you with malt vinegar to douse your fish with, and they have a very British menu of side orders, from baked beans to pickled onions. But it’s not always authentic that’s the best, and I really did not like my fish. I had cod and I felt that it was far too greasy and tasteless. The malt vinegar helped to mask the latter. The prices are not even that reasonable. For instance, the cod fish(small) and chips is SGD14, while the Dory and chips is SGD11.50. It did not make sense to me to pay that amount of money for fish that evidently doesn’t suit my palate when I could have an amazing bowl of laksa down the road for a fraction of the price. Looks like I will be getting my fish and chips fix somewhere else.

The English’s answer to the French’s fries is none other than the chip. Hand cut from Sebago potatoes from Australia(and sometimes King Edward potatoes flown in from the United Kingdom, if you’re in luck). As traditional as chips can go, the chips here do not come with 7 unique sauces. Wrapped in parchment paper to soak up excess oil after frying, the fries are often presented with a bottle of malt vinegar and salt on the side –how the English eat them. If you are looking for more than just that, you might want to go someplace else. The fries here are cooked differently, and fried only once at a temperature of 185 degrees Celsius, unlike most American French fries which are blanched once before being refried at 190 degrees Celsius, so they do not have the same crunch or firmness as their North American versions, but taste as good, nonetheless. A regular(pretty gargantuan, to be honest) portion of chips comes in at a humble $ 3.50, whereas a large portion is $ 6.00.
