I was initially hesitant about making a reservation here due to the notorious car park challenge at Greenwood — but thought what the heck, let’s give it a go. And I’m sure glad we did. The interior is cosy and charming(no this doesn’t mean what it does in property ads), service was attentive without being stuffy(although I thought they could have been a tad warmer to really play to the neighborhood vibe), and food was pretty damn good. Four of us ordered the duck rillette, duck confit, ribeye, pork belly, and suckling pig. The standout dish for me really was the rillette — I’d go out on a limb to say this was better than what they used to make at Le Bistrot du Sommelier. I also really liked the caramelised pineapple that came with the suckling pig. The duck confit was unfortunately not quite up to scratch — the glorious crispy skin that makes this dish so sinfully good was sorely missing. I’ll definitely return when I can next muster the patience to do laps around the pathetic carpark — if anything for the rillette!

Really can’t believe I haven’t heard of this place sooner! Our table was already prepared as we arrived — with child seat, plastic utensils and all. The service started and ended fantastic! If that wasn’t enough… the food & wine selection were superb! Shared the escargot, charcuterie board, spare ribs and homemade sorbet. There is no doubt we will be back! Thank you to our wonderful and attentive waitstaff.

Even after a week removed from eating at this restaurant, I still can’t stop thinking about the lunch I had at Shelter in the Woods. Michelle M and I started out with four(4) live Atlantic Oysters with Rotisserie Rack of Lamb and finished off the with the, oh so sweet, Shelter French Toast. Yes, YeS, YES!!! Let’s start off with the Atlantic Oysters. Although I typically like my oysters with just lemon, the oyster was sprinkled espelette pepper and chive. Absolutely, sublime! The size was on the smaller side from what I had been used to back in Connecticut, but nevertheless the taste was definitely there! I ordered the Australian Rack of Lamb medium-rare and it came out perfectly. It was pared with Roasted Baby Potatoes and Mesclun Salad. Not jaw dropping, but solid! However, in my opinion, the star of the show was the French Toast. It’s a cheese grilled Egg Pan-fried french brioche topped with a strawberry, blueberry, raspberry compote and, of course, vanilla ice cream. Simply Stunning! A must order. The ambiance is very fitting of the name of the restaurant«Shelter in the Woods.» It definitely feels like you are in the woods with the wooden dining tables and relatively dark interior. In some strange way, it reminds me of the Hansel & Gretel movie… In conclusion, simply a stunning place to have lunch, especially if you live around the Bukit Timah Area! Will I come back? Most definitely.

Anyone here watch Daym Drops on Youtube? ‘Cause Shelter’s brunch is just dayummm, DAYUMM, DAAAAAAAYUUMMM! Everything we ordered used high quality, fresh ingredients and was carefully and beautifully presented. Sure, you’ll pay for it, but I thought it was worth every cent. I tried the French toast, and dare I say it– it’s one of the best I’ve had in Singapore. It’s on the lighter side, with the toast itself not being very dense. I think the berry compote and the fresh fruits is what made the dish. I don’t know where they source their berries from, but they just tasted phenomenal. If only the berries that top my llao llao tasted that good! I also sampled my husband’s rack of lamb, and that was also well executed. We had it done medium rare, and it was perfectly seasoned and super juicy. Even the potatoes that came with it had the right amount of seasoning and tasted great. Totally worth it if you’re looking to splurge!

A cute little place off Bukit Timah Rd. Menu is small but good — focuses on making the few dishes good. Tried the suckling pig, seafood stew and duck confit. All were good without being spectacular, and the duck was too-heavily seasoned. Overall would go back, especially to try the cote de boeuf. (No idea why they play the type of music that they do. Totally incongruous with the setting)
