Despite the late Deliveroo, despite the hefty price tag and despite sitting in a box for a good 15 minutes during transit(and losing some of its crunch), Sacha & Sons’ grilled reuben large pastrami on rye rocks! Rocks so hard, that I Deliveroo’d it again the next day! Yes, the price is high for a sandwich, but I don’t think any other place in Singapore does pastrami as good as them. Can’t expect anything less from the Wild Honey group. Breakfasts at their eponymous restaurants are awesome! The large grilled reuben with pastrami is huge. With a homemade salad(soup or something other small dish) on the side, the sandwich can easily feed two. I actually split my sandwich into two meals, which meant I had it for 4 meals straight!(Yes. I have a problem) Sacha & Sons also takes great care in how they pack the food, so that it arrives in the best condition. One place I Deliveroo’d from literally just wrapped the food in aluminium foil. Can’t wait to try the bagels, although I don’t think I’ll Deliveroo any egg dishes.

So… as pledged in my previous review, I returned to Sacha & Sons for the faint promise of New York bagels on this Little Red Dot. All I have to say is: how do I give this place six stars? I got the pastrami eggs, which comes with a sesame bagel w/herb cream cheese. You guys, these eggs are UNREAL. I don’t know what else to say. You have to get them before you die. Plus I’m pretty sure there are like five eggs in this one order of eggs. I found the smoked salmon eggs not as good as the pastrami ones, but I also personally hate the idea of warm smoked salmon. The sesame bagel is also LEGIT. Perfectly toasted… like normally I don’t even like sesame bagels. But now I think I do. What just happened. I paid«brunch prices» for this breakfast loot($ 16ish) but these portion sizes are so big I left actually wishing they made the sizes smaller. And I’m the ultimate value for money girl. What??? Finally, big points for solid service. It wasn’t perfect; they messed up our order and we had to wait a while for it, but they were ultra-professional about it and gave us a free dessert. Which we took to go, because again, big portion sizes. So full.(Update: their NY cheesecake slays.) My only mini-gripe about this place was that they serve water in those mini glass cups. The food here is just naturally on the sodium-rich side, so I found servers constantly coming by to help refill a bit annoying. But if you’re not illogically annoyed by little water cups in non-cafés like I am, then I have no other complaints to report. Make those Saturday reservations quick. They were solidly booked til 4pm. I rarely«do brunch» because I don’t wake up early enough to wait in line and pay $$$ for a meal I wish were bigger, but Sacha & Sons defies all brunch logic and I will definitely be back. Again.

So disappointed! Such great reviews and it is hard to get a good sandwich in Singapore so I was really looking forward to the rueben. My Reuben, on not very authentic rye bread, and the husb to be’s schnitzel were both very dry. Coleslaw was dry and lacked flavour. Good pickles. The menu reads well and I might be tempted to go back to try the bagels, not sure.

Tasty food with hearty portions! I ordered the scrambled eggs with pastrami served with a toasted sesame bagel and herb cream cheese. When I ordered the dish I actually had in mind that it would be pastrami slices served alongside the scrambled eggs but was surprised to find the meat mixed in. It was cubed in large enough pieces that you can still taste the pastrami so it turned out to be quite nice served this way. The bagels are made fresh daily which are perfect because nobody likes to eat day-old bread! Great chew and lightly toasted was perfect for spreading the cream cheese evenly across the whole surface. On my way out however, I noticed that there were 2 different types of bagels on the racks… one sesame and the other looked like sunflower seeds. They didn’t ask for my preference but if I had a choice I would have chosen the latter. I would recommend making reservations as getting a table for 2 at 3pm on a Sunday still required a 45 minute wait. At least the waiting benches outside are comfy!

I’m spoiled because I’ve had some good Jewish deli style food in my time so the bar was set pretty high for me. It’s not bad! Not bad at all for Singapore. I had the latkes and smoked salmon and while it was a bit pricey it was tasty! My dad loved his pastrami so it gets his seal of approval. I haven’t tried the matzo balls yet but I’m quite picky with mine. It shouldn’t be too dense and sink like a stone in my opinion. Next time!

No question if you are in the mood for bagels or pastrami. This is THE spot for either one of those cravings. Coming from New York, two of the many things I had withdrawls from were bagels and pastrami, two of my favorite foods. I got lucky and walked by Mandarin Gallery and something was pulling me to walk inside and up to the second story where I first checked out the Wild Honey restaurant, didn’t see anything interesting then settled at Sacha & Sons, and boy am I glad I did. The staff is extremely kind and fast. I’ve been back many times since this first encounter and I’ve had the following: 1) Chicken Schnitzel on Bagel — This hits so many spots. So good. 2) Pastrami on Rye — Your typical NY flavor pastrami. Nothing will compare to true NY pastrami but this comes pretty damn close. 3) Bagel and plain cream cheese — hits the bagel craving I’ve been having. Freshly made warm bagels with the best cream cheese you will find in Singapore. 4) Fresh Orange Juice — unlike many restaurants and even hotels that advertise fresh orange juice, this is actual fresh orange juice(not sure why this is a foreign concept given how big Singaporeans are on fresh juice) 5) Coffee — good coffee but not the biggest fan of their iced coffee for some reason Highly recommend coming here for good bagel or pastrami sandwich. Make a reservation on Chope first if you can so you won’t need to wait.

Forget what I said before! Get your pastrami sandwich here! A worthy version of an NY deli here in Singapore.

Ok the venue. Charming décor and music. I wished it had less ac. It seems the food came out not as warm as it should. Not sure if it’s the Ac or it’s just not heated warm enough. Ok. I ordered the corned beef with mustard. Horrible! A lot of meat yes but it’s just so dry and flavorless. You could stuff the cole slaw into it. It really needs the mustard on the side or just leave the bottle because it’s absorbed in the bread. The bread isn’t even buttered. It just has so many faults. The pastrami Reuben was so much better. The meat wasn’t as dry and the cheese, sauce and buttered bread made it more richer in taste. Still compared to nyc, Montréal and shanghai this Reuben sandwich would be rated 1 in comparison. Yes even compared to shanghai that has an amazing place. If I ordered the Reuben solely I would have rated a solid 3. If I ordered the corn beef mustard solely it would be a generous 2 star. Please someone tell me who makes the best in sg.

I’ve never lived in NYC, so as I often say, I won’t comment on the authenticity, but this is a great place for lunch. Hands down the best pastrami I’ve ever had and I did grow up in the States so have eaten a lot of it in my time. The chicken soup with matzo balls was nice and comforting. The coffee was really good too, one of the better coffees I’ve had in Singapore, flavourful and smooth. Definitely worth popping in if you’re on Orchard Road and needing sustenance. Plus I liked that the owner was meeting and greeting at the door. She showed genuine interest in all the customers. I’ll be back!

The pastrami here is by far the best I’ve had in Singapore to date! The brioche bread is soft, fluffy and toasted just right. The pickles though a tad soft are great in flavor and effector offset the tartness of the black pepper rub of the pastrami. The bagels are definitely the best in SG. Overall spot delivers on both quality, taste, and service. I will definitely be coming back for more :)

A tad expensive but food and coffee are both good. Had the dips platter and pastrami and hollandaise potato latkes. Pastrami is a little dry but not a deal breaker. Bagel and dips decent like what you could expect in a NY deli. Service is prompt and the owners are friendly.

I was quite shocked that it did the trick for my New York deli hankering. It is by no means a true representation(think of Chilis for Mexican food if you have ever lived in Texas) but it has a nice, large reuben sandwich and decent(–ish) bagels. The latkes with smoked salmon were a sad state of affairs as they were overdone and really greasy but the rest was just fine. The atmosphere is nice — modern, clean, located in Mandarin Gallery next to its sibling restaurant Wild Honey — and the service was good and quick. Will be back again when I crave a reuben!

First of its kind here in Singapore. And they execute it well. Why isn’t there any good new york deli here in Singapore before this? I wouldn’t consider dean and deluca one as it’s more of a casual café setting rather than a new york, new york kinda deli. I got very excited when I read about the new venture from the same people who brought us Wild Honey that they’re bringing the famous«jewish» pastrami and liver sandwich, matzo ball soup as well latkes of smoked salmon to our shore. Walking into the restaurant yesterday immediately brought me back to those wintry nights in new york, where I’ll hop in to Katz’s Deli late at night with my friend and have a hearty meal of hot soup with the ever satisfying sandwich. Oh, good times! The restaurant is beautiful. I have to give credits to the attention to details of this restaurant — from the table settings, to the lighting, to the napkins to the staffs’ uniform(white overcoat). The napkins with tongue-in-chic quote written all over it, was done tastefully. I wished I turn 13 this year and would definitely hold my bar mitzvah party here, I swear. Moving on to the food, I ordered a Half-Half, which consist of a reuben pastrami(75g) sandwich on rye together with a matzo soup and a small salad on the side. I paid $ 21 for the meal(no drinks) and even though it’s a little bit pricey, I will definitely come back simply because I really enjoy eating here. It’s comfort food at its best and a great brunch spot with friends and family. Service is commendable as well. The restaurant manager had his rounds and came over to ask me if everything is alright and the food is ok. My glass of plain water is always filled up throughout the meal. Before leaving the restaurant, I told the waitress I like the napkin and if I could have a few(great props for instagram photos, haha) and she said«of course» and gave me two! Good food, friendly staffs — what else to ask for?

I’m a New Yorker at heart and I can have up to 2 bagels a day when I’m back in the city. Oh love. And I’d gladly join the queue at Katz’s Delicatessen for their towering pastrami sandwiches. Obviously it depresses me so that Singapore doesn’t do any of the above food items well. But that could change with Singapore’s version of a NYC Jewish deli Sacha & Sons. Located at the prime Mandarin Gallery spot which was previously Wild Honey, Sacha & Sons is a nice complement to the all day breakfast spot which moved next door. They are both opened by the same owners. Expect meats like pastrami, corned beef, roast beef and smoked fish. Cream cheese and pickles aside, Sacha & Sons offers other Jewish deli staples such as bagels($ 3), latkes($ 10-$ 16), chopped liver($ 14), kugel($ 7), and matzah ball soup($ 12.50). I do enjoy liver e.g. foie gras and pâté, but the version at Sacha was so metallic I had to wash it down immediately with water. Thankfully we had some smoked salmon and that got rid of the pungent aftertaste. We had a taste of the pastrami($ 16, $ 24, $ 35), and immediately decided that whatever we ordered, there must be pastrami in it. The slices were sufficiently juicy when carved and salty enough to satisfy a savory craving. I was torn between a Reuben Sandwich($ 16) and a bagel(there’s no denying my love for bagels. Settled on the Scrambled eggs with pastrami and toasted bagel($ 18). I’m glad to report that the bagels were satisfying. Exactly the kinda dense chewy dough with a shiny crust that I miss. However, I think the texture has been tweaked a little to cater to Singaporeans who can’t take hard food(roll eyes). There are only sesame flavored bagels because they are more versatile for sandwiches I guess. Sigh. We had the herb cream cheese to go with and it was thick and rich in terms of flavor and texture. If you dislike garlic, you’d be put off by this one. It’s so pungent that it can kill a vampire but it’s oh so good and savory! I haven’t had a schmear so good in singapore. Go for the smoked salmon cream cheese(or lox cream cheese) if you want something saltier(it was very good). I hope they up their bagel game. We could certainly do with variety like say maple bacon walnut. The scrambled eggs were sufficiently runny and had nice layers in them. They may resemble a chinese fried omelette a little. The pastrami was cubes and cooked with the egg and that resulted in a drier texture. What a pity. We had the Sweet blintzes($ 12) which is a crêpe stuffed with cottage cheese, and paired with sour cream and jam. On its own, the crêpe was really oily, and the sight of it soaking in oil put me off the dish. Crepes and oil do not go well at all. It was soggy(with OIL) and bland. The sour cream and overly sweet jam could not take away that eeky mouth feel. I’d rather the Norwegian version with a light and crispy batter rather than wet mess. I’ll head to Sacha & Sons if I have an NYC bagel craving, simply because my choices are limited in Singapore. At $ 8 for a bagel with lox cream cheese, they are certainly not marketed as a typical delicatessen. Well well, so much potential to cultivate a bagel culture in Singapore but not tapped on. Hopefully they stay around for a bit.

Food is rather good. Front of the house staff are rather lacking. If you come at the right time you will get to see one of the female staff with her laptop facing the window that looks out onto the mall. She was working on a company spread sheet. Meanwhile I had to chase the wait staff to get a glass of water. It was around 7pm and the dining room had a few folks dining. On a previous visit we opted to have the Italian soda. A combination of fruit and soda water. Very weak and flavorless so skip that option off the menu. The first time we dined the staff energy level was not bad and the service was okay for casual dining. Now just a few weeks into the operation the staff acts disinterested. Food was good staff not so much.

Jewish delis are one of the things I miss most about New York, so I was really excited when I heard about Sacha & Sons. I’m a fan of Wild Honey too, so I had high hopes for their next venture. I would and probably will go back, but I’m afraid I was a little disappointed by Sacha & Sons. The pastrami and corned beef were both a bit dry, and not as thinly sliced as I normally like it. The corned beef had good flavor, but I found the pastrami a little on the bland side. I tried the matzo ball soup as well, and that was ok, but not what I was hoping for — the huge single matzo ball that takes up almost the entire bowl, like you’d get at Carnegie Deli. I also found it a little thick, not light and fluffy. Lastly, the soup came with a bagel, which I found odd, and that, unfortunately, was really bad. Maybe it really is the tap water in NYC that makes them so good, but this was nowhere near a New York bagel. It was dry throughout and just didn’t have that chewiness on the inside that a real NYC bagel always has. I realize I’m being really harsh here. In all honesty, I give Sacha & Sons points just for trying, and I’m hopeful that they’ll nail some of these finer points over time. I loved the décor and the vibe, and the service was friendly. There are plenty more dishes on the menu that I’ve yet to try, so I’ll be back sometime soon.

Pleasantly surprised. We had the chopped liver sandwich which was really good but I cannot imagine eating that whole sandwich alone. Chopped liver to me, is a little overwhelming especially when the portion isn’t lady bite-size. So best to share it. The other dish that we ordered, the Latkes smoked salmon, which in fact is, rosti patties on stacks of smoked salmon. this one. omg. I like. The disappointing, was the corn beef sandwich. It was dry, under-seasoned corned beef with mustard. Not to be repeated. The Coffee(I had a flat white), was served in the tiniest of cups and for $ 6. that, left us feeling unsatisfied, so after that lunch, we walked across the street to Robinson’s for a cup of Costa coffee. and ahhh… yes. the world was right again. Service here was touch and go, and this is coming from someone who isn’t normally picky with service, just food. The thing was,(1) we were shown to a table that was already taken. and(2) our coffee was served and placed right on top of our napkins. a little shoddy yeah and inconsiderate, esp when there were other clear spots on our rather large table that she could have laid it down on. And oh btw… we weren’t the only ones who got ushered to a table that was already occupied. she gave a repeat performance. hah. maybe she was also in need of a larger cuppa of coffee. :)

A bagel at 16 S$ is not exactly a give away, but I will say that it was good(I had it with cream cheese and gravlax they claim to make themselves — hard to know if it’s true of course). And staff really was taking care — a bit too well even: my plate was almost snatched away as I finished my last bite. Also here(like at Dean & De Luca’s), there was no menu: you have to read it on the board over the counter. I start wondering: were there never menus in New York? I think I would have remembered that? The expresso macchiato was excellent and there was(white only) sugar in a fancy small bottle on the table. I had to shake it a bit to make any sugar come out, but fortunately, the funny result I half expected did not happen: I managed to get only that much out as I needed. I did spot today’s NYT and some interesting looking Jewish cookbooks. I think I’ll go back — from time to time. Added: well, I do go back regularly. I love the half-and-half option(one half of this, one half of that); my favorites are the pastrami and the trout salad. Yummy. And not to forget: the service.
