Yeah, so I’m not local… But I know how to appreciate good soya bean curd, milk and greasy snacks to round them off ;) this place though I’ve always enjoyed, never

Opens till late, one of my favourite supper hangout! Healthy and I easily get my next morning’s breakfast settled at one visit! So glad to have one franchise stall near home! Parking can be a pain since our lovely government started drawing single line in the middle of the road in 2012.(That restricted drivers from stopping by the roadside near private estate area). Back to food. I can order my beancurd with no sugar syrup, but with soya bean milk instead and they still taste as good! Add the you tiao(oil fritters) for additional pleasure, and the Portuguese egg tart! Oooooo I love this place!

Rocher Original Beancurd is one of the best in Singapore. From $ 1 for a glass of beancurd drink to $ 3.80 for their XXL fried chicken, it’s definitely an affordable dessert/snack place for you to pop by and chill with your friends. However do take note to sit outside as inside can get quite stuffy sometimes. But then again, what you pay for($ 1.80 for cold beancurd with pearls) is what you get so no complaints there with the ambiance. Their beancurd are always a welcome dessert whenever I am in the area as it’s silky smooth and sweet. just the way I like it… the pearls is always something I like to throw in so I can chew on something. Seating always seems to be enough regardless of how crowded the shop looks. I don’t know how they do it but always there’s enough space for everyone. Definitely an affordable and delicious place for you to go with your friends for a nice chat on Friday nights.

Something that’s unique about Singapore is that a stall can be called Rochor Beancurd House but not located in Rochor. As we all know, this is nothing new, but it’s food-for-thought isn’t it? The way we identify good food by its original location. I need better opening lines. Anyways, this is a place great for authentic tau hway. The hot kind that you used to eat at the old school wet markets in the weekend mornings. It brings me back to the days when I wasn’t this lazy, and often accompanied my mother to the markets. The Ang Ku Kueh is yummeh. If you have to buy one pastry, this is it. There’s a reason why it’s packed so nicely ready at the storefront. The skin is thin and chewy, whilst the filling inside is THICK and emerges with such sweet flavours you scare yourself by realising you actually want another Ang Ku Kueh.

This place has some of the best tau huay, or beancurd, I’ve ever tasted. Ignore the cold-beancurd-in-plastic-bowls craze that’s sweeping the country, this is the real silky deal scooped out of a large barrel and served with hot sweet syrup. While many come here for the beancurd, dough sticks and other pastries, there’s absolutely one thing you must try: fried tau kuah(something like tofu) sticks! It’s piping hot and crispy. It’s seasoned with some sort of powder on top which gives it a slightly spicy taste. The crunchy outside combined with the soft inside is just heavenly. The ambience leaves a lot to be desired, though. The interior of the restaurant gets warm especially when it’s crowded. The tables and chairs feel cheap and aren’t comfortable if you sit on them for too long.
