It’s always a little confusing why places exist with OTHER places in their names. E.g. Katong laksa in Tiong Bahru, Beach Road prawn mee in East Coast etc. Must be some proud of heritage thing. Similarly, Old Punggol End Seafood is tucked away at the back of Bedok Shopping Complex, and is a gem of a find. Am told that they’ve relocated from Punggol where their original outlet was pretty popular as well, but that’s great for us as this eatery dishes up good, hearty nosh. Some people think the test of a zi char stall is its fried rice, a gauge for the elusive wok hei. Ok, whatever dayongs your sampan, dude. Instead, we went with classic choices of tofu, vegetable, prawn and an alternative carb dish. The tofu is one of their signature dishes, as is the Buddha yam ring(hey, yam counts as a veg dish ok). The tofu is silky, coated with egg and flash fried before being swathed in a coat of gravy and then topped with a mound of minced pork. The prawn dish was one of the more unusual I’ve encountered so far — battered and then tossed in pumpkin sauce. The serving was generous, I remember devouring about three, much to my guilty recall. We chose to go for mee goreng, which was commented on to be on the spicy side. I thought it was ok, but one of the others I was with has a sensitive tummy and headed for some elimination straight after. This is a great casual hangout for dinner, and I’d definitely recommend this place. Parking can be a bit of a hit or miss though, due to the limited lots, despite Bedok Shopping Centre having them placed all around its perimeter.
