A lot of the reviews here are right when they say they have been here for over 20 years. This place is packed with collectible items from the 1960s &1970s. Old record players, Elvis songs… it’s a pretty vintage restaurant. The servers were polite and you can tell some of them have been running the place for a loong time. Now, let’s get down to the food. I came here for dinner and going by prices, I would say it’s better to go there for lunch than dinner. Their lunch prices are worth it. Anyways, we ordered 2 plates of fries and buffalo wings for appetisers. The food was served hot which is always a good thing in my opinion. I can’t say the fries and wings were out of the world but it is still well cooked, which is more than what you can expect from restaurants these days. Then, we ordered our mains. I got the garlic prawns and NZ sirloin steak, well done(yes I know, medium rare is the best way to eat a steak). The prawns had a lot of minced garlic — to me, it was divine. I love garlic. The steak was alright as well. My friends who ordered medium rare for their steak got a pretty bloody steak so… luckily I ordered well done! Overall, we had a good time at the restaurant. The ambience was interesting and it had a feeling of nostalgia. Perhaps I will be back here for lunch instead to make my money worth.

Oops. Been meaning to finish this review since mid 2013, and it just completely slipped my mind. I can’t understate the nostalgia of this place, my family and I have been coming here since I was 5 or 6. That’s… more than 20 years ago. The amazing thing is the menu and décor really haven’t changed that much, and I’d still happily go back when in the mood for casual«Western» food. As a working adult, I’ve also discovered their set lunches! And while not in the ‘under $ 6 range’ you can find in a hawker centre, they offer great value and it’s pretty decently yummy to boot. I highly suspect that if Mariner’s Corner didn’t offer such nostalgia and memories, and I just randomly happened to try it because it was in the area, I’d have given it two stars. But hey. Memories gotta count for something right?

For some tasty, old-school Hainanese delights, one of the best places you can visit is Mariners’ Corner. Serving up succulent steaks, scrumptious seafood and mouth-watering pastas since I was a kid, this is one of the few places that I find myself turning to whenever I need some good old comfort food. The standard and quality of food has always been great and seldom dips, and you can tell that its one of those businesses where recipes are passed down from father to son. Prices are really decent as well, with set lunches starting from $ 9.80 and ala-carte dishes from $ 13.50. Be sure to give their signature Oxtail stew and sirloin steak a go if you do visit and I’ll guarantee you won’t leave disappointed!
