We love middle eastern food, specifically Lebanese dishes and we’ve been venturing our way through Singapore trying to get our hands on the best kebabs and hummus in the country. Levant was reviewed as a top choice in Trip Advisor so off we went with high expectations. When you walk into the restaurant there is a warm, almost homey feeling with a touch of romance. I was drawn to the centrepiece on the table, a gorgeous candle that when lit up made the stained glass candle almost glow. We have been taste testing hummus every chance we get when we see it on a menu wherever we may be, but have usually come out of the experience disappointed and jaded. Sadly, Levant’s hummus was no exception as it lacked the taste of authentic hummus. I can say this because I have an amazing hummus recipe from a Lebanese woman that I’ve been tweaking to perfection to meet the demand of the one and only man I love. Sorry Levant, your hummus has failed to impress us. BUT, the falafel with the yogurt garlic sauce was very good and the star of the night was the chicken yogurt and halabi kebabs grilled to perfection — tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. The price was also reasonable. Aside from the hummus review, we’re coming back another night for the kebabs, falafel and to try other items that we’ll hopefully love. We’ll have to see if we can sit in a more private area next time as we were distracted by an overly loud husky voice of a woman throughout our dinner.

Levant is a cosy restaurant, tucked away from the city in the peaceful and quite neighborhood of Hillcrest/Watten. This restaurant is literally surrounded by a bunch of Italian restaurants. Waitstaff were attentive and friendly. I did not like the table they offered. For one reason only: There was an extremely loud lady sitting next to us, who had already eaten everything she ordered(may be hours back) and was now suffering from a sever case of «diarrhea of mouth»! I am almost sure she thought she was sitting in her living room(did they pump some hallucinating drug out through the air-conditioning system before we came?). Now let me move on to food. The menu looked like middle eastern + Indian. Hummus tasted very light. Something was missing.(Caution: I have been spoiled with awesome home made Hummus by my Angel). The Falafel tasted good. Flat bread that was served was like a piece of cardboard, hard and stale. Not the fluffy soft middle eastern pita bread I expected. The chicken and lamb kebab’s were good. It came with nice middle eastern flavors, grilled to perfection, juicy in the inside. Price was in the mid range.

Amazing biryani, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the serving size was more than sufficient for two very hungry adults. Should also give their grape vine appetiser a try, I really liked it! Call ahead to make reservations, seems they get crowded on a good evening.

The food is awesome. The lamb shank biriyani and the halabi kebab is must. We tried a spicy eggplant dip with pitta bread and that was a good way to launch off. Friendly staff, help you make the right choices. While parking has been an issue, they now have a free valet parking available so no hassles. Enjoy!

This is a relatively new addition to Greenwood Avenue, as it opened near the end of 2013. Miguel and I went here for lunch on a Saturday, and it was pretty quiet. Word on the street is that dinner is where it’s at, especially on Saturday evenings, as that’s when they have belly dancers perform! They have do have sets during lunch, but we were much more interested in the a la carte items. I really wanted to try the appetizer platter, but between the two of us it seemed a bit too much so we settled for the hummus and Lebanese style bread. I wouldn’t say it was spectacular, but compared to the ones they offer at the supermarkets, it’s probably one of the best in Singapore. Now, if we had to place bets on the best dish on the menu, we’d go all in and bet on the Biryani Lamb stew. The lamb is very soft and falls off the bone, and the rice they serve with it is perfectly spiced. Although it’s portioned for two, it may leave you wanting more if you have a big appetite. I feel that middle eastern cuisine is underrepresented in Singers, so if you’re looking for something different, definitely give Levant a try.
