This ice skating rink is OK, but just OK. My family and I try to go to the JCube rink whenever possible, but Kallang Ice World is closer to us so we sometimes end up there. My main complaint about the rink is that the skate boots are extremely uncomfortable and painful! Every time we leave, my feet hurt for a few days after and my kids usually get some wicked blisters, even though they wear good socks when we go. Today we went with a group of 8 and everyone’s feet were killing them by the end, with several people having to take frequent breaks because their feet hurt so much. Another complaint is the music! It is terrible and they really need some new updated playlists that include more modern music than the hits of the 70s and 80s on a Saturday morning. However, there is no one around to request different music from; this morning(a Saturday) when we were there, there were no employees around or on the ice aside from an older gentleman who was cleaning the class on the side of the rink. At other rinks there are several clearly-marked rink employees out on the ice helping people, but here there were none. A few times children fell and other skaters had to go and help them up, which seems like a safety issue. Lastly, the ice was extremely wet when we went, with small puddles in some areas. Like I said, this rink is OK and its location is convenient, but if we have the choice, we will go elsewhere whenever possible.

After the old ice skating rink at Jurong East was closed and before JCube was open with The Rink, the only other large ice skating rink available was at Kallang. For someone living in the west, the skating rink was a little out of the way in terms of location. However, the opening of the Stadium station on the circle line has improved accessibility significantly. Just a five minute walk away from the station, the skating rink is located at the top floor of the shopping mall. Other entertainment options like shopping and a cinema, as well as a variety of F&B outlets are available in the mall. The skating rink itself looks a little worn compared to the more swanky and new stores in the mall. The rates are in the usual range, whereby you can either opt to bring your own skates, or rent the skates at an additional cost. Be sure to bring some gloves because it is usually compulsory at such skating rinks. The skates for rental may be a little old, but still performs its function satisfactorily. For children, metal support bars to help them in balancing are available at no additional cost. The rink also has basic facilities like lockers, toilets and benches for rest. One tiny complaint I have is the state of the ice. The ice looked a little dirty, and the surface was bumpy and melting at quite a few areas. Because of the timing, we missed the surfacing and did not get to experience a smooth skating rink. Perhaps because the rink is a little old or its location, the Kallang skating rink is not as crowded compared to the old and new rinks at Jurong East. This is perfect for skaters since you can fully utilise the area, rather than squeezing with others and fighting for the sides if you’re not exactly the best skater out there.
