Get away from all the nonsense carpark queues and rushing for good seats here. That’s what I do. There’s no crowds here and there are a couple of other coffee joints and restaurants here that make the Filmgarde here more appealing to me. While I’ve been a traditional Shaw cinema kid, the Cinema at Filmgarde is pretty decent and I haven’t really had a bad experience with it yet. The staff don’t chase you out once the movie has ended and will wait for you patiently. An half-empty cinema means lesser people kicking on your chairs or armrest which is what I absolutely hate when I am watching a movie. So yeah, come here if you hate crowds!

The main reason why I come to Filmgarde to catch a movie is because of the lack of crowds. Even with the circle line station located just next to it, Filmgarde doesn’t really see much crowds. Which is a good thing really. It’s one of the best places to catch a popular movie without any fuss in getting good seats. The cinema itself isn’t too shabby and the seats are relatively comfortable. There are couple seats available at an additional cost of $ 3, but don’t bother as you can easily lift up the armrest on the normal seats. It’s also relatively easy to bring in your own snacks as well as the people don’t really check you. Overall, Filmgarde at Kallang Leisure is the go-to place for me whenever a hit movie comes out cos it’s fuss-free, peaceful and you get to enjoy the movie in peace!

I’m always ready to root for the underdogs, there’s just something endearing about FilmGarde. It’s a very relaxing experience — great for first dates. Everyone in Kallang Leisure Park moves at a slower pace, except for those ice-skaters in the rink. There’s no rushing, no jostling — a breath of fresh air for a theatre located near city area. Take your time… Slowly take the escalator up and slowly buy tickets. One other thing I like is the comfy leg room. The popcorn’s nothing to look forward to though. I’ve tried their snacks, there was nothing that stood out, maybe its simplicity that they’re looking for. This is a place where artsy atmospheric movies like ‘In The Mood For Love’ would be good, but for blockbuster action seekers who enjoy having the thrill of the whole theatre laughing or swearing with you, then you’d be better off at Cathay.
