Joe and Dough serves great coffee, desserts, and American-style sandwiches. The service is quick, the place is clean, and everything we had there was SO good. We went several times. I strayed and went across the hall to the Singaporean cuisine spot, but the line was long and service was terrible, so my advice is to stick with Joe and Dough if you’re in the area!

Fancy a salt beef sandwich in Singapore? They’re hard to come by… happily there is one at Joe and Dough. I came specifically for the salt beef sandwich and so that’s what we shall talk about. It’s a decent sandwich and will scratch your salt beef itch, hold you over till you get to London. Ha! It’s a few thin slices of salt beef with caramelised onions — nice taste of sweet onions. No mustard though. And I think a bit of cheese though mostly inconsequential and lost in the onions. So you’re probably thinking: NOMUSTARD?! Yeah. Well we could have a lengthy conversation about this, you and me. Taste-wise it’s pretty decent. I wish there was more beef. Why are portions in Singapore always so kiam siap? The bread is a whole round roll of Rye bread. Nice crust, soft and tasty but a tad too much bread, I felt, accentuated by the tad too little beef. And so all in all it left me pretty satisfied. I would certainly go back to scratch the salt beef sandwich itch but at the same time, dream of better days and better sandwiches…

It’d be silly to say Novena doesn’t have nice things, because it does. However, I feel Novena MRT is lacking in all-day dining options with free wifi, something that I’m craving more and more. I’m excited that Joe & Dough has swooped in and filled in this void. Located on the ground level of Square 2, this new outlet has space, fancy looking desserts, good coffee, and free wifi. It’s one of the few places that are open for breakfast that isn’t takeaway(Square 2 and Velocity mall is more concentrated with lunch/dinner establishments.) The staff is friendly and I like the classic jazz soundtrack that they have playing in the background. They have colourful leather chairs throughout the café; however, they’re paired with low coffee tables so it’s not ideal if you need to be typing on a laptop. There’s a big roundtable in the back, but it’s really meant for a group of 6. Therefore, you’ll find me sitting at the smaller coffee tables near the front! Welcome to Novena, Joe & Dough! Glad you’re here!
