I am only in a position to review the coffee here as I only sampled an espresso and a cappuccino. I was almost over-caffeinated(yes, there is such a thing as too coffee even for me) but still wanted to try this place as I seldom make it to this neighborhood. I had the cappuccino first and it was pretty nicely executed, the milk had the right temperature and the foam was nice and soft. The flavor was a bit too dominated by the milk but still a very good cappuccino. The single espresso was however less impressive as the crema was non-existent. Flavor was thin and a bit burnt so I do hope it was just a mishap and not the normal quality. Overall can still not give more than three stars as the cappuccino was good but not excellent and the espresso pretty bad.

The café is located just behind the bus stop. Although it is weekday, the place is filled with customers during lunch time. Casual place. American Express and Diners are accepted here with orders $ 30 and above. Cash and NETS are also accepted here. But not VISA and MASTER. Remember to collect your tin of cutlery at the counter after making payment. Don’t forget to help yourself to the sauces and water at the counter. Latte($ 4.90) Smooth and chocolatey in taste. Raisin Scone($ 3) A bit sad that it is not served with clotted cream. It is served hot, and tastes soft and buttery. PULUTHITAMPUDDING($ 11) Homemade black glutinous rice cake pudding with artisanal fresh coconut ice cream & coconut shavings. I’m disappointed that it is ice cold in the centre. The dry longan in the sauce has chewy texture and quite flavourful in taste. The coconut ice cream has bits of coconut flesh in it. PICK A DATE($ 12) In-house warm sticky date pudding, cream butterscotch & vanilla bean ice cream. Honest and Rich. The pudding is also having a bit of ice cold centre but not as bad. Lots of walnut in the sauce. Rich but a bit too much for me as I get sick of it after halfway through. Overall the food is not bad. Staff is also quite friendly.

Good coffee served here. But the wait could be a little long when the café is getting full. The truffle fries are good with generous dose of truffle oil. Additionally generous slabs of cake win reasonable prices are welcomed. Would be back!

Eggs Benedict was okay but would have preferred it traditional — placed on top of its english muffins instead of dried toast. The sprinkles of truffle oil elevated the taste but as with the magic of truffle, anything average can be made better.

As usual, this review relates to coffee only. Marcus L definitely knows his coffee, and I also have an aversion to coffees which have been incinerated rather than roasted. Fortunately, the issues mentioned in earlier reviews of the coffee served at habitat appear to have been resolved in recent months. Ristretto — the volume is fine, with a small amount of concentrated coffee beneath a medium brown crema. It’s a potent shot, with woody or earthy characteristics, where the initial burst of concentrated flavour gives rise to an aftertaste that fades out slowly. The mouthfeel and consistency are interesting — in some quality shots, the mouthfeel is almost syrupy, and certainly more viscous than an equivalent volume of water. The effect is much more pronounced in this instance, and it certainly worth trying. Cappuccino — the ristretto shot above was combined with smooth microfoam to produce a hybrid of smoothness and potency. The coffee flavour is not lost or drowned out by excessive milk, and the addition of latte art is a nice finishing touch. It’s a competently executed coffee, however the mouthfeel is a little loose — the texture is more liquid than smooth. This is by no means something that can’t be fixed, and it’s still a quality coffee. There are a variety of brewing methods available — aeropress, syphon and pourover coffees are available, so that a number of different preferences can be catered for. Ristretto shots are available, which is something that I always like to see on a menu. Apart from being a more concentrated and potent shot, it demonstrates that the staff have a good understanding of the process of extraction that makes a good shot. With a cappuccino and ristretto proced at $ 7.40, this is cheaper than equivalent drinks at franchise chains, and is certainly a better overall product.

This place looked promising on the outside and since my better half gets excited about menus with pancakes/french toast stuffed with fruit ala pain perdu and omelets, I knew pretty quickly we were going to end up eating here despite the options up and down Upper Thomson road. I don’t know whether the food here is what it is because the chef hasn’t had great food or he’s just cutting corners. I ordered a pepper seafood aglio olio with spaghetti and it was the only decent thing out of all the items we ordered. The shrimp was fresh and the pasta was tossed with a good amount of garlic, though I wish there was chilli and parsley, the other 2 important components of this dish! The dude ordered the pancake stack that was supposed to be stuffed with peaches as well as 2 side orders of eggs, salad and a sausage. His pancakes were really um, more like dry silver dollars and they were stuffed with canned peaches. Canned peaches! And then there was the cheese sausage. Apparently people like liquid cheese(like the kind you find on nachos) in their sausages. I won’t ruminate on canned peaches and liquid cheese in 2013. Oh and lastly, the dude had a coffee and he said it was«ok’. I guess we’re not the target demographic for this otherwise fairly crowded joint full of young ‘un’s.

The service was good enough and the seating area was nice enough too and the prices were ok decent too. But I don’t think I would ever patronise this establishment again. The reason was that food was really not that great and the coffee was also just ok too. Maybe I just picked the wrong dish but their eggs benedict was really really below average. Didn’t like the muffin at all, the ham was mehhhh and the eggs were not great either. Their coffee was alright. But for a place with the word ‘coffee’ in its name, its cappuccino was really nothing to shout about. Maybe I just expected too much but my experience was a real let down =/

I’ve been a fan of their coffee for a long time — always dropping by for my usual flat white. Recently tried their food menu — ie truffle fries, big ben and eggs benedict — and was quite pleased. Overall, this place is a honest and non-pretentious café that I really appreciate.

Crowded, had to order from the counter, liked the creamy latte, waffles are crispy, Big Ben breakfast is ok, eggs are perfect, cheese sausage is not good, the hash brown is super oily. You have help yourself to cutlery and water, very casual place. Spent $ 36 for two persons.

I can’t give it 0 stars, but if i could would. There’s a difference in roasted beans and burnt beans. Their beans are definitely burnt.”

I was there with Marcus L. on the same day he got his burnt coffee. I took a sip of his coffee and even though im not as huge a coffee nut as he is, I could still taste the sort of burnt bitterness from the coffee. It also came a bit too hot, making it a rather painful drinking process. Plus there was some residue at the bottom of the cup(quite possibly coffe grains) which I thought were slightly unappealing. For what its worth, I doubt I’ll be back soon.

I was in the area, and I needed(read: wanted very badly) a decent coffee. I’d seen the place a couple times as I drove past, so I thought, why not? Oh no. I thought I’d be nice and order a cappuccino. It’s a classic drink; what could go wrong, right? The whole thing, apparently. I got a burnt coffee, which was weak, and extremely watered down. I couldn’t finish it. I wish I could be nicer — maybe the barista needs a refresher course? I hope the other offerings were better!
