This is a pretty solid local stop. It costs a couple dollars more than the cheaper stalls, but you get a huge chicken chop, fries/rice, and coleslaw with the meal. It makes for a decent quality, fast, and tasty meal in the local food court. I prefer to get the black pepper chicken chop, although other parts of chicken are also available, such as thighs and wings.

A reasonable roast chicken rice stall in the neighborhood food court. Their roasted chicken is very juicy and roasted to a nice golden color. Their service is also very fast — the regular self-service style at local food courts. The rice set comes with chicken rice but not as fragrant as most chicken rice in Singapore. But, that is not their specialty so no big deal. That being said, you definitely want to get the extra sauce. Otherwise, you will eating lots of plain rice. I will definitely go there again even if it is just to get some chicken wings to snack on.

Move over Nandos, Golden Rooster is chicken done old-school and probably how most of us grew up remember chicken to be done. It’s a pity it is dying out a little but my family used to LOVE indulging in Golden Rooster half-chicken for family gatherings. I think many people like their fried chicken but I always go for the roasted chicken. Serving is really generous, meat is succulent and juicy with a tinge of sweetness from the sauce. The skin the best part of the meal. I especially like having wings because the ends of it is where the essence of the roast is at — loads of skin with sauce. Their chicken is serviced with skinny fries or rice along with old school coleslaw. I grew up eating chicken like this so(almost) nothing else can come close to this. No wait, the best part of the meal is actually the fried bun that comes with the fried chicken, fries and baked beans set. Soaked just so slighty in the baked bean sauce, the bun is the perfect ending to the meal. At least that’s how I have it.
