So been going to this place a while but just haven’t written a review. Definitely a great place to go for the whiskey connoisseur! The staff is also very friendly and knowledgeable about the product. Don’t be shy to ask questions! Great place for after dinner drinks, awesome for dates because the environment just promotes conversation. Definitely gets a lot of recurring business, always a good sign. Get in good with these folks and free drinks will be in your future!

In touristy Robinson Walk, this spot definitely feels a bit pretentious. We stopped by around 8pm on a Saturday night and were able to get a seat inside right away. The layout feels a bit cramped but is nice in that you’re at the bar and can see the wide variety of bottles on the walls. The cocktail list is not extensive, but is interesting(e.g. Old Fashioned made with tequila instead of whiskey). I tried a sazarac which was quite nice and she had a mojito, which we both agreed was probably the best mojito we’ve ever had — perfectly balanced with a unbelievable finish. They put the bottle(of whisky, gin) in front of you so you can have a look at what you’re drinking, which I think is a nice touch. Will definitely return to see what else they conquer.

I try to buy my spirits abroad for obvious reasons. Sometimes though, you want something interesting and your options are to buy and ship from abroad, or get it locally. In all these occasions, MdW has beaten the«buy online with shipping and customs» price by a good 5−10%, so I’ve often purchased there instead. This should address their reputation as «pricey». The selection is good, very good for Singapore and the cocktails are competent as well. What distinguishes them from most other whisky bars is the broad selection of stuff available by the glass, including Velier rums(such as Diamond). Talking of rum, although Stephane unfortunately moved out of Singapore, he has left a legacy of a great selection of collection rums and rhum agricoles which is hard to find elsewhere — this also happens to be a MdW specialty. Velier, Rhum Rhum, Rum Nation… rising names are well represented. The price list is on the web so go explore it before paying a visit, although it is not frequently updated in my experience.

La Maison Du Whiskey is a rather chill place to have a drink at Robertson Quay. Especially great if you’re serious about whiskey, because the menu here is extensive and employees here definitely know their stuff. Both indoor and outdoor seating available– I’d recommend grabbing a seat outside on a weekend night– there is fun vibe and can be nice alternative to the more chaotic nightlife scene at Clarke Quay and the like.

The only reason I came back was because they’re the only distributors of monkey 47 gin. Came by last week to buy and waited 45 minutes in vain for them to open. If they weren’t open at noon should say so but the sign on their door declared from noon daily. There was no reply to my message on their Facebook page. The reply came 2 days later. Upshot they offered 5% discount. Seriously I don’t need the discount. I just need them to open when they say they would be. Came back to restock my supply but they can say sayonara to any more business from me. I’m looking for other suppliers from now on.

The good: I would say that the location sits nicely in the heart of Robertson Quay, with both inside and outside seating that can accommodate singles or small groups. I like where this cocktail bar is aiming, even if it doesn’t hit, sort of like a confused«tasting room» if you will. The bad: Ever been dragged along to a house party only to find out that it wasn’t really a party and the people there didn’t want you around? Well, that’s what La Maison feels like. The staff, aside from the occasionally and accidentally helpful guy(I think he was French), conduct themselves like aloof carnies(aka carnival employees). Let me elaborate: It took FOREVER to get the menu, water and a cocktail. There was only 1 other person there. As ridiculous as it sounds it was almost impossible to get the attention of the staff because they were too busy practicing random drink recipes(they were the only ones drinking them) and chatting with the one other customer who was there(I’m assuming he was a regular or owner, couldn’t tell from how incredibly comfortable he was sashaying around and behind the bar). Throughout the conversations, and between childish giggles, there were words used that were dirtier than the glasses. Oh yes, filthy glasses. One of the other«bartenders» was using a rag to clean/dry the glasses and I saw him sneeze directly into the rag and then continue«cleaning». At that point I looked around for a hidden camera because it was TOO over the top terrible to be real. I thought I was being punked. The ugly: The selection and service isn’t nearly as impressive as say The Auld Alliance, nor is the atmosphere(although the latter does feel like my grandfathers living room). To top it off, the mix drinks aren’t good. And by that I mean they’re really bad. If you do venture to La Maison, and I would assume it’s because you were dragged there, just make sure you order a whiskey. Neat. No glass.
