Good value and tasty dishes. Stir fry beef is chewy and spicy. The cold dishes is a must try. The spiciness is acceptable here for most tourists, but a bit bland for Asians.

If you’ve been to China and tried«Dong Bei» food before, this is the same kind of food! Located just across from China Town Exit G, is Dong Bei Ren Jia. There’s also a bus stop right in front of the entrance if you’re looking to take a bus there. Their business is so good that you have to absolutely make a reservation before heading down. I called two days before and was told that I could get a table for 10 at 630pm and would have to leave by 750pm sharp as another party was coming in at 8pm. It was the only available slot, so I took it and in deed at 745pm, the waitress asked us to hurry up and finish our food. 1. Shui Jiao $ 6 /Guo Tie $ 7 Both the shui jiao and guo tie were stuffed with chives and meat. I had instances of juices squirting out as I bit into it. For a dollar more, I’d rather just be unhealthy and get the fried guo tie instead of the shui jiao. 2. Tomato Fried Egg $ 8 This is one my my most favourite dishes I had in China and this tastes exactly the same as it did in China! The omelette is so smooth and creamy, it is also sweet because of the tomato. The tomatos are soft and almost like jelly! 3. Stir Fried Beef $ 12 The beef was okay, slightly juicy but a bit too oily and spicy for my liking. You have to pair this with rice or something bland, else it can be too over powering. 4. Pig Trotters $ 14 I never understood the point of pig trotters, it’s just fat and skin, there’s no meat in there, but apparently my friends loved it. 5. Hot plate beancurd $ 10 The beancurd was abit too over fried and hence too hard for my liking. 6. Sweet and Sour Pork $ 14 Order lots of this! It’s so good! This is their best seller! We ordered two plates of this for a table of 10! It is so crispy and inside, there is a thin slice of pork. It is served on a plate with sweet and sour sauce, which you dip these deep fried battered pork into. 7. Gong Bao Ji Ding(chicken) $ 12 The chicken were cubed and easy to eat, it was more of a sweet than a savoury dish. There were alot of nuts in this dish, which added a crunchy mouthful of chicken and peanuts! 8. Cold dish $ 8 I am not too sure what’s in this, but it tastes like cold kway teow. 9. Cong Yo Bing $ 2.50 For $ 2.50 for an entire plate of this, we ordered several! Some people will tell you it’s just like prata, but it’s a very crispy and thick prata that has spring onions in it! 10. Spicy Pork $ 12 This pork was a lot more spicy than the stir fried beef, but it was just as juicy and tasty. 11. Caramelized Sweet Potato $ 8 This was an interesting dessert. You struggle to pull out a slice of sweet potato that is «glued» to the rest with caramel and you dip it into a bowl of water to separate the caramel sauce. It was a sweet delight! After the meal though, everyone felt very thirsty and I believe they used alot of MSG. But for $ 160 for 10 people, it is relatively cheap.

Suffice to say, the northern Chinese cuisine hit the spot. For a group of 7, we easily ordered over a dozen dishes to share(and didn’t finish, because we greedily over-ordered) and enough Harbin Beer to drink to our heart’s content… We left paying SGD $ 20 per head. No frills, quick service, plastic table covers, and our gluten-free friend also had plenty to order from the menu. Works for me. Burp.
