For a $ 5.50 cup of flat white, I don’t recommend that you come here for it.

Perfect ambience as they are located in a quiet corner within chijmes. Kudos to the nett price for everything on the menu. Hence the 2 stars for this review. Coffee, needs improvement. The flat white was bland. I also spotted a tiny crack on my coffee cup, not acceptable.

We didn’t have high hopes for the mushroom soup as it was quite watery. However it was tasty and mushroom-y(without being overpoweringly so). It also came in a big bowl, and was served with quite a lot of baguette, instead of the token one or two slices that most places give you. The baguette was reasonably crusty too. The chicken genovese pasta(the type with pesto) was alright — nothing noteworthy either way. The Grilled Furikake Salmon on Potato Risotto was really interesting. It was salmon with a crispy seaweed and sesame seed crust, served on a bed of mashed potato(yeah, that’s what the potato risotto essentially was). This was a pretty unusual dish, with the salmon having a crispy crust, and a pleasantly intense umami flavour permeating the flesh. It is rare for salmon to be non-generic tasting and this combination was a winner. Dimbulah is very cheap for the area(this is the heart of Yuppie-land), with the pastas and the fish and chips going for $ 14. And prices are nett prices too(no 7−17% surcharge). Service was a little slow though, and they mixed up our order.

Decent, all day dining option in the newly renovated area of Chijmes. I’ve only been here on weekdays, either late in the morning or mid-afternoon, and it’s served me well. Ambiance-wise, it’s quite nice. They’re in a corner, there’s not too much noise, and they can adjust their space to be alfresco or enclosed with glass doors. They also have a small patio for those who want to enjoy the 1000% humidity that Singapore has to offer. :) Their food and beverage ranges from coffees and light breakfast to heavier mains and alcohol. I particularly like their 1-for-1 deal for beer during happy hour; there’s never enough of those around Singapore! Their fast and free wifi also makes you want to linger around a little longer. Just ask one of the servers for the password and they’ll happily give it to you. All in all, this is a good weekday spot to meet a friend or colleague for coffee, or for freelancers who need free wifi throughout the day.
