this is the only crystal jade that i will dine at as they are consistently good. as i was growing up, crystal jade was the household name in the chinese cuisine game. but time seems to have stood still for them and imperial has rob them of that spot from right under their noses. this flagship outlet is very popular and most attempts at walk ins often left in disappointment. though the setting is upmarkety, you can still dine relatively cheaply if you stick to their dim sum, noodles and porridge selections. all of which never left me disappointed. the whole suckling pig is to die for! just check out my photos. you can also order half a pig if you so choose but why would you?:) or even just a portion size but that latter option always end up as a repeat order anyways. as for anything live seafoody, be prepared to shell out the bucks. it is definitely north of the hundreds for each dish, from your geoduck to your lobster. however, if it is a special occasion like mother’s day, they will definitely not leave anyone disappointed in terms of their quality and quantity, you just have to pay. the special mention here has to be reserved for their staff. a very well trained team that is attentive, courteous and always looking to do that extra bit, like taking special care of any mothers on the table on mother’s day. my mom was pampered like a queen! yay! if you come frequently enough, like my friend does, they will address you by name as soon as they see you and accord you preferential VIP treatment. between crystal, jade and palace, what’s not to like? probably just the crowd and the price.

This Crystal Jade Palace outlet at Ngee Ann City is its flagship store. It is a Chinese fine dining restaurant that is famous for its high standard Dim Sum and it is always crowded, especially on weekends. For a fine dining restaurant, the prices are really reasonable, with each item ranging from $ 3 to $ 5. It is best to enjoy a fulfilling dim sum meal with a group of friends, since you will be able to order more items to share. This way, you will be able to try out a wider variety of dishes. My friends and I ordered up to 10 dishes but our favorites were the BBQ Pork Pastry, Fried Beancurd Skin with Prawn and Pan Fried Carrot Cake. The pastry of the BBQ Pork pastry was buttery and flaky, and tasted heavenly when accompanied by the char siew filling that was both sweet and savory at the same time. The Beancurd Skin was fried well and the prawns inside were huge and juicy. My favorite item was the Fried Carrot Cake, the insides melted in my mouth and it was so flavorful. You can also bite into bits of white carrot.

AUSPROBIEREN!
