If you like Lava Cake with a scoop of ice cream on the side, then this Cuppa is for you! It’s as the name suggests = hot lava cake with molten centre + cold ice cream at the bottom. Awesomeness in a cup!

My mum came home one day excitedly with a cakebox in hand and in it, was my very first Chocolate Origin cake. This is a good one for lovers of chocolate cake — ditch the tacky chocolate mousse cake and go for this one which has layers of spongy chocolate and chocolate truffle. I liked that each layer stood on its own as paired well together.(You know how with some cakes, the sponge gets moist and loses its flavour or you get cakes filled with flavourless cream?). I’ve only tried the milk chocolate version thus far, because my mum is always the one bringing them home but I definitely am eyeing the dark chocolate version. And I heard their lava cakes are awesome too. Bring this to any birthday celebration for your chocolate-loving friends, I’m quite sure everyone has them. Your friends will thank you for this one. Remember to thank me for this suggestion.

The Chocolate Origin originated from a little traditional bakery hidden in the Changi Village area. Among all the offering, there was a gem waiting to be discovered by the discerning cake monster who would overlook the secluded location and the lack of sophistication in the appearance of the shop and the cake. The original chocolate cake is a 6 inch rich and creamy milk chocolate cake which is very little sponge and tons of chocolate. I wouldn’t consider it mousse or cream. It’s just pure chocolate to me. A tiny slice will suffice in fact(for me at least) because it’s too sinful to have more due to the richness in flavor. This is a sellout at every gathering we bring the cake too. Everyone loves it. The great thing is that it is no longer only exclusive in the East. The Chocolate Origin has a little store at 313 Somerset and you can get a slice of heaven at a more convenient location. They have also diversified with their chocolate selection. For dark chocolate lovers, there is the bitter and cooler variant. My other favorite is the Chocolate Lava Cake in a cup! Life can’t get better than this. Where else can you get this gooey fondant on the go! My only complain is that the ice cream is not real vanilla bean ice cream and is on the icy side. But this is truly one of the best chocolate lava cake in Singapore and only for S$ 5.50?!! Wert wert! More excuses to have the chocolate offerings!

Although I’m not a big fan of chocolate, Chocolate Origin’s chocolate cake has won me over. In my opinion, they beat Awfully Chocolate easily as having the best chocolate cake in town. Its made true to its name, thick with rich chocolate, and glazed to absolute perfection. Its moist and velvety, and will keep for days if sealed well in a container and put in the fridge — so you can space out that indulgence, with the comfort of knowing that it will taste just as good. Also love how you can make an order for the cake online on their website with just a few easy steps — and they even provide a tag for you to write your own msg on and stick on the cake! Very cute :)
