it’s 41days into 2015, time is ticking away… tick…tick… in another 9 days, it will be the year of the goat, time is ticking away… tick…tick… whatever your new year’s resolution is, here’s a reminder to get on with it. time is ticking away… tick…tick… for myself, health and fitness will be my main focus for 2015 and you will probably witness more check ins and/or reviews related to these areas. time is ticking away… tick…tick… having read about breathe pilates in a magazine and thereafter reading tresna’s review, i became intrigue and was really keen on trying them out for the very first time. yes, i’m a pilates virgin, do not judge me. i have long dismissed pilates as a fad and refused to jump on the bandwagon. but after finding out more from friends who have benefitted from pilates, i started to believe. believe that this might be, contrary to my initial dismissive pre-judgement, perfect for me. i have long bought into the idea of strengthening the core. but never quite knowing what or where it is. i was rather simplisitic in my idea of what or where it is. but from the very first lesson here, i began to understand. the subtle moves, that i was not even conscious about, made me understand. it is precisely these subtle controlled moves that will make me a better man. power is nothing without control! true dat! that simple introductory one hour lesson well demonstrated this truth. many a times i felt lost, but the instructor was quick to bring me back on track. the various breathing techniques and poses will take some time to become second nature. but my foundation classes in yoga did give me a slight edge in this. this boutique style studio is what i prefer. and the atmosphere, besides being slightly chilly, is conducive for achieving my goal. the beginner’s package of three solo and five group breathing sessions is the best value for money and definitely a good appetizer before an even greater financial committment. p. s. kegel muscles exist for men too!

This is certainly not a cheap Pilates studio. At $ 55 for a one off group class(up to four students) most people would need to avail themselves of the multi passes that offer a discount when buying classes in bulk. I like to visit when in Singapore as a way to maintain my Pilates practice and keep my back happy after spending a lot of time sitting on planes. The classes I’ve taken here have been excellent. The instructors are really good, challenging the class and making adjustments for each person as required. Conveniently located in the Novena Medical Centre, it’s easy to get here on the MRT though do allow a little time to find it down the winding corridors on your first visit. Cash or NETS only.
